Truck driver here. 'Traffic' is a cluster of vehicles that are impeded by inattentive, ignorant or inconsiderate drivers. You wanna fix it? Here: -Gov mandate for every smartphone to be disabled at speeds over 5mph. You can still use gps app, receive calls over BT and play a predetermined playlist or station from music apps with skip button for songs. -Program every ECU to derate/govern speed if you are passing a car and you start to linger beside them for a predetermined amount of seconds such that if you are riding next to someone you just tried to overtake, and they did not accelerate, your car will slow down so as to create distance between you and the car you were lingering next to -Traffic violations, particularly lane misuse (cruising left lanes), too slow, speeding, ignoring traffic control devices etc, should be automatic deductions from your bank account, with an online dispute portal. Save on dangerous cop encounters/liability by cutting enforcement overhead. It shouldnt ONLY be monetary penalties... cant allow the rich to drive like maniacs, so points system/suspensions/revocations still apply, just automate the enforcement side... it can be done. See Dubai.
The problem is density, there is too much in that spot. Spread stuff out a little and that kind of problem goes away. Pushing for more density to deal with the problem of too much density is an absolutely silly "solution." And no one mention the induced demand fallacy. No amount of extra lanes is going to increase the traffic between New Ulm and Frelsburg in Texas. The just one more lane problem is due to too much density, not demand increasing with supply.
Wow
Basically everything wrong is literally Los Angeles
Part of a cog in a machine, its why I choose motorcycle to be different stand out refuse to conform.
This will help if less rich people move to the south maybe they should be taxed
Looking at this as a european it's absolutely mind blowing how incredibly unsafe this intersection is. You wouldnt find something like this in the majority of Europe at all
WHY would you even allow bikes on the interchange?
Only Answer is to buy in bulk and br efficient im small biz and get caught in rush hour twice a year if thet lol and i always feel dumm for it lol
0:56 URBAN is a racist code word, she doesn't want "urban" people aka people of color, in her "back yard"
I showed this video to my freind, who is hevily on the right side of politics, and he unironically said "So many liberals" Idiocrasy.
so a US problem
Sounds like allot of European roadworks.
Used to live around the corner. It didn’t fix traffic, but it definitely improved it.
If I were to design a new city, I'd build skycrapers within a small area. You can't avoid using cars when things are far apart, and the only way to keep things close to each other is high density populations. Only skyscrapers and fast/big elevators + 3D roads/pedestrian walkways can achieve that. Just make sure they are not built near seismic zones.
How about, a roundabout?
Because white america is shrinking everyday
Everyone: "Why do 'Mericans build these abominations"? Answer: Miles per intelligence.
Roads are fine, people are stupid. First, you got left lane hoggers going the same speed if not slower than all other cars in other lanes. if you are slow, why take the left lane? join others and be slow with them. Second, HOV lanes can reduce traffic flow because that lane is less utilized. and you again have jerks going the same speed or slower in the HOV lane than others, backing up traffic again. Third, people are so stupid they will slow down to LOOK when there is an accident ON THE OTHER SIDE on a divided freeway and cause unnecessary traffic jam on the accident-free side. Fourth, people don't know how to merge. The correct way to merge is zipper. basically "cut in front" is the right way to merge. NOT your "Line up and wait" in just one lane. Use the other lane! The most space we use,, the more traffic we can move. Hence the stupidity of HOV lanes and non zipper / cut in line merge. Fifth, people are just too slow. If you have a tailgater, it's most likely you are too damn slow for the road. SPEED UP or MOVE OVER. tailgater can cause crashes but if you just SPEED UP or MOVE OVER, you get rid of tailgaters.
Reaching out to rural communities affected by urban sprawl is a great idea. The U.S. gives rural areas a political advantage. It *could* be something rural folk, urbanists, and environmentalists agree on. Rising property taxes and increased traffic because of new suburban developments can be very painful and environmentally costly for rural folk.
Excellent video. Scribed the sub 👍
those absurdly large cars looks so funny
Low density city developments for low density brains.
The video was great until this freak showed his face.
Increase public transit and densification.
Why do Americans are not building parking houses? Like multiple stories of parking space
The construction of parking structures costs more than the land. Developers are not willing to foot the bill if they meet capacity with space. And with the additional weight of electric vehicles along with inflation does not make a parking garage cost-effective in a developer's perspective.
@@traffic.engineer Interesting. Then its primarily a lack of space why it gets done in Europe
@@jakobgehmacher9449 yes, lack of space makes land more a premium.
@7:15 ‐ "Many people enjoy the individual experience of driving". Lies! I once lived a 15min walk to work. With a grocery in-between. And much preferred not having to pay a car note, insurance, parking fee on my street (city mandate vs being towed - no apt garage parking) every month. When I could just walk to work. I miss those days.
Not a lie.
Ford and General Motors, hold my beer, 🍺 😂
All the highways were built way before we were 4 billion people on this planet, that was back in the 70s. Today we are 8 billion already. The only solution for humanity is stop breeding. Especially the poor people.
Where are the developments shown at 3:31 and 4:10?
America will never not be car centric. As long as we have capitalism there will always be non pedestrian friendly cities.
Adding lanes does not increase traffic flow capacity of a road, except to the degree that it increases the average speed of the vehicles travelling on it. The primary function of a multi-lane road is to allow faster traffic to get around slower traffic, thereby allowing higher average speeds on that road, compared to the same vehicles driving down a single-lane road.
I hate these McSuburbs. Theres nowhere to hang out or talk to girls. Hell theres no girls living here anyways
Very interesting channel but I CAN’T STAND THE VOICEOVER ARTIST.
The thing is even with 100 lanes you would have backed up traffic. Both because people drive really badly and cant switch lanes, and because the off ramps (or the roads they connect to) dont have that same capacity. In fact more lanes can cause more traffic with bad drivers even with the same amount of cars
Certain US politicians would call this communism
Move to Europe and you'd see perfect suburbs everywhere
I am surprised at the damage that this outdated suburban system is doing. It does not have shops, schools, malls, parks and not even sidewalks or bike paths. Public transportation should be included in all housing projects too in my opinion.
This is a great video, thanks!!
Leave states like Florida & California, this kind of traffic is more rare.
congrats America, you have finaly realised your blunder
You didn't mention the safety concerns with public transportation and help concerns being in large groups. I feel safer driving and don't mind leaving early or taking longer alternate routes
so basically 15 minute cities and less cars owned by regular people, gotcha 👍
Love how over population is not one of the reasons for traffic
Roads are much easier to change than what is the actual problem. Decades of zoning laws and a complete dependency on individual motorized mobility. The American dream is a nightmare and suburbia is a hell hole. It breeds arrogance and inhibits the development of many crucial life skills. That's why America is now the shit hole it is. Don't blame it on the media or some political party, it's the American way of life.
Are there websites that show all the developments like this?
This can be done better. Why not avoid collision intersections and traffic lights completely? Just use overpasses and merging lanes. More expensive, but solves the problem.
Well people in urban areas would walk everywhere as it’s not car friendly whereas suburban and rural communities would need to be more car friendly. Another issue is parallel parking. Many suburbanites are used to parking lots.
Funny how most of this is normal in Europe...
