Looping Loops
One of my favorite things to do is feeding loopers into eachother to create new multiple-layer loops. The matrix mixer makes this so much easier!!
This session starts with a single, very simple, guitar melody. After that no more input from the guitar is added. I’m using the Ditto x4 and the Twin Looper to rerecord the loop and add effects such as half speed and reverse. To create some more movement the Raster adds some delay and the Nu-33 adds chorus. One of the loops is first run through the Petrichor and BL-44 before rerecording.
Signal chain:
Behringer MX400 - Boss SY-1 - EHX Attack Decay - Mooer A7 (A/D fxloop) - Chase Bliss MOOD- Matrix Mixer
Loop A: Twin Looper & SGFX NU-33
Loop B: TC Electronic Ditto x4 & Red Panda Raster v2
Loop C: Polarbear FX Petrichor & OBNE BL-44
- Cooper FX Generation Loss - Behringer CL9

DIY Matrix Mixer First Try
zhlédnutí 165Před 14 dny
A little over a year ago, two friends decided they wanted to make a matrix mixer. After some struggles the first working prototype is ready. They asked me to test the new device so here is the first, of probably many, testing session.
Walrus Audio Fundamental Fuzz

Welcome to my first demo of a drive pedal! I don't use drive pedals in my ambient music much so I also tried to play some guitar riffs as examples (timing is hard ;)). In the final example I use the Bloom: 10 Worlds app, it pairs nicely with the fuzz to create some really dirty sounds. Let me know if you enjoy the intro song on this video! 00:00 Intro Song 02:04 Classic 03:26 Gate/Classic Compa...
New Recording Setup
zhlédnutí 800Před 2 měsíci
Recently I bought my first 4 track cassette recorder. And I wanted to see what difference it would make if I recorded my music with the 4 track instead of my Kemper Profiling Amp (amp and cab simulator). I used the same settings on the Kemper as my previously recorded music. And with both recordings I only used the same small amount of EQ. Which version do you like?
First 4 Track Tape Loop
zhlédnutí 200Před 3 měsíci
Recently I got my very first 4 track cassette recorder! It almost works perfectly, I’ll probably have to replace the belts some time. But now I can experiment with tape loops on this machine. Here I took a short tape loop and recorded some different tracks. Track 1: bass drone Track 2: chord with shimmer reverb Track 3: sound on sound Track 4: voice sample (was already on the tape)
SGFX NU-33 - First Sounds
zhlédnutí 378Před 3 měsíci
My first experiments with the NU-33 from Solid Gold FX. I really like that it's a modulation pedal with a lot of extra functions. You can really shape the sound of the modulation and add a bunch of cool lo-fi effects. The audio in this video might sound a bit more noisy. I'm also experimenting with a new recording process. More about that soon!
Pedalboard Session

Here's a quick session with the latest build of my pedalboard. Well, kind of... Shortly after the last video I got an amazing new modulation pedal, the Solid Gold FX NU-33. So I took of the Behringer FX600 and replaced it with the NU-33. To fit everything on the board I also changed the order of the pedals a little. I'll have to do some more testing to see if I like the signal flow this way. He...
Ambient MOOD Jam

Yet another step in my journey to conquer MOOD. Here I’m exploring Tape mode on the right side of the pedal together with Reverb mode on the left. Like many have said before, Clock is really where the magic happens with this pedal!
Sony M-729V Belt Replacement

When I got this microcassette player (second hand of course) it didn’t work but when I listned closely I could hear the motor spinning. So I figured it had to be a problem with the belt and I wanted to try and replace it myself. The first attempt failed because I didn’t have the right belt for this model. And that’s why in this video there’s no old belt in the recorder to take out. I finally fo...
New Pedal Jam - Walrus Audio Fundamental Fuzz

Recently I noticed I didn’t have any drive pedals in my collection. And I have been interested to try the Walrus Audio Fundamental series. So when I came across the Fundamental Fuzz, I had to get it. Here are some first sounds with the new fuzz. First I recorded a fuzzy sound on sound into the Twin Looper and turned it to half speed to serve as a base layer. In the second part of the video I us...

This is TC Electronic's version of a freeze pedal. But it can do al lot more than just freezing your sound. In this video I didn't cover the toneprint section of the FX Types. I hope to do this in a future video with multiple TC Electronic pedals. 00:00 Onboard reverb 00:44 Recording sound 01:10 Fade in/Decay 03:05 L1 03:58 L2 05:29 L3 07:22 Infinite
StepSynth & Mini Board - 5 Sound Examples

Last week I had the opportunity to give some synth workshops to kids between 8 and 12 years old. I also wanted them to play with different external effects, so I also brought this setup. I put together a mini board with some budget pedals so the kids could explore different sounds by themselves. Here are some examples of what they came up with. 00:00 Ambient Cross 01:00 Industrial 02:00 Wall of...
Tape Duet
zhlédnutí 116Před 6 měsíci
This week I wanted to do something with tape again. I made a new open tape loop and recorded an older ambient piece that I stored on my RC-5. I also wanted to try out my new micro cassette player. I first recorded some noodling on the Zoom H2N and then rerecorded it onto micro cassette. And of course turned it to half speed! Hope you enjoy.

Ein großartiges Experiment mit sehr wohlklingenden Tönen und einem Mega Setup -- Geiler Stuff!!!
Wonderful stuff 👏🏻
needs more hand.
Nice. I have three loopers on my board. One thing I like to do is record a loop to the one furthest away, then another loop to one in middle and finally, one to closest. Then let the three async loops evolve. Add some effect, salt and pepper, and maybe drop one to revers and another to half speed. endless fun.
Thanks for sharing! Love the guitar loop sound you had going!
Surprised to see the Behringer multi-effects in there. Does it actually hold down the fort?
I really only bought it to save space in my tapeloop suitcase. I mainly used it for the chorus, tremolo and pitch shifter. It actually sounds pretty good but I only used it with tapeloops which sound lofi anyway ;) maybe I’ll have to make a video to test it with guitar!
Is the mixer stereo ?
No, it is mono. My setup is also mono so for me it’s perfect
Nice, man!
Thank you!!
Hmm, after that comparison I thinking about move from regular to pico... No glitches is the great advantage for me.
It also saves so much space!
The Polarbear is gorgeous
these violin sounds are fckn sad bro😂
TC Infinite is next for me. Thanks for sharing!
The Infinite is great! Have fun making lots of drone sounds.
love it
Thank you!!
What are the settings on the IJ ?…especially the envelope
Unfortunately I didn’t keep track of the settings. I don’t have the Infinite Jets anymore so I can’t recreate it :(
May I ask why you let go of your IJ?
You can spend hours twisting knobs on the IJ to find the perfect sound but it’s not a pedal you can do this live with. For my board I’m looking for pedals with interesting sounds and controls you can manipulate live somewhat easily.
@@AmbientExploration what if you find one sound you like, and for my application would be church such as a pad sound and want to recall it quickly at church. Can this be done?
@gabrieladdenbrooke1964 yes you can, the IJ has 2 slots to save your presets
Keep exploring, i like the dirt on the Bloom app!
Thanks (:
Sounds like Failure. The band. Not saying your playing is a failure. Lol
Lol, thanks I guess ;)
It'd be interesting to hear what's playing dry and then with all the pedals, however, very cool!! I love it!!
Thanks for the feedback!
awesomeee
sounds phenomenal
Thanks!!
I love that you have a nu-33 its an absolute beast of a pedal. My chorus of choice!
The first sounds were really good, I have to get used to the pedal some more though. I like to create a setup where all pedals have intuitive controls. Hopefuly the nu-33 meets that requirement :)
Thx for helping me decide. Along with the 3 presets and loop function, this sound comparison has convinced me that the extra real estate is worth it for the original.
I’m glad my video was helpful :) for me the bigger unit is also the way to go
I want a Ditto X4. Sounds nice.
cool...but, uh, low recording levels. It's analog, crank it to +3
Yes you’re right! Still getting the hang of it.
@@AmbientExploration 😁👍 I grew up in the 80's making tapes. It kinda hurt me to keep digital signal @ -12 🤣 And a friend had that EXACT SAME 4 track that I played with in college. Thanks for bringing those fond memories back.
Raster rules.Slow modulation with the Square wave🤘
This is my favorite preset on the raster!
@@AmbientExploration Usually when I have square wave I have it on a fast rate..Il try this..Random stepped mode would be cool too..
Both recordings do sound great, but I tend to say the Tape just sounds warmer and more organic...maybe due to a bit of saturation and less highs. I think the sounds could be matched quiet close...but knowing one is analog is enough for me to believe in it´s magic. I think I have to get myself a Tape-Recorder now...
I agree that the analog recording sounds warmer. I’m going to keep experimenting with recording on tape. You should get a tape recorder, it’s fun :)
Nice one
Always looking for presets for my Raster, this one is cool
Thanks!!
You tamed that beast, great presets…..
Thank you!!

This is wondrous and beautifully otherworldly music and I find your video very inspiring! Thank you and please keep up your original sounds! Jim, Apartment 8 records.
Thanks for watching!!
This is an Excellent learning video, thank you for the expertise and the valuable information! Jim, Apartment 8 records.
Hi Jim, thank you for the great compliment! I’m really happy you were able to learn from my video :)
Thanks for the share. Cool demo.
So glad to see you got a cassette multitrack! Sounds great and I bet you'll have a lot of fun with it!
I am having a lot of fun with it :)
Brilliant ❤
This is brilliant. Very Aphex Twin
I loved that you kept some speech in there. It gives this a "voice from beyond" effect... very ethereal!
Wow!! ❤❤❤
Thank you!!
Lovely demo. Thank you. 🙏
Thank you!! I’m glad you like it :)
Hola amigo. Como has conseguido los primeros acordes? Piano? Suena a Ojerum. Un saludo
Hi Krokus, sorry for the late response. The first chords are made with the Attack Decay with a reverb in the fx loop. It doesn’t sound like a guitar, but it still is! 😊
Sounds pretty cool, subtle and underneath so to speak, perfect for minimalist soundscapes . . .what is the looper? Doesn’t look familiar nor the name.. .
Thank you!! The looper is called Twin Looper by Rowin. It’s a pedal you can get off Ali Express for around €50. Sometimes the same pedal is sold under other names. Even though it’s really cheap I think it is worth getting. It’s a stereo looper with a loop length of 5 min (!), reverse and speed control.
Love the sounds you’re generating, smooth and evolving. What is your opinion of the EH Attack/Decay? It’s on my short list but can’t decided if it’s a different animal from my Game Changer Pedal+. . .thanks
Thank you!! I never worked with the Game Changer pedal but it looks like the sustain/swell part of the pedals are similar. A big difference is that the Attack Decay has automatic pluck detection and the Game Changer pedal requires the footswitch for operation. The Attack Decay does have a numer of additional functions such as poly mode, fuzz and a tremelo option. Hope this helps!
I've got an Attack/Decay and it's an amazing sleeper pedal, especially once you start throwing effects in the loop (fav: delay + pitch). There are a lot of ways too to create glitchy/lofi sounds.
Wish I had watched this before buying Pico. I only like the OG attack decay for the glitches. I was confused when I couldn't get any on the pico version. Oh well! kms!
It’s really too bad you can’t get the same glitches on the pico. This is also part of the reason I chose the bigger version.
what apps are these? Ive never heard ot this
In this video I used the Bloom: 10 Worlds app and the Poly 2 app. They are both available for IOS. I don’t know if the’re also available for android.
This a great video, thank u for sharing. I am just getting ready to rearrange my board also, and you really inspired me. I liked how you use the effects loop on the attack decay. Also what brand patch cables are you using? I had an awful buying experience with Caulfield cables and am looking for a new maker.
Thank you!! It’s great to hear you got some inspiration from my video :) most of my patch cables are from Harley Benton. This is a brand from the German music store Thomann.
Beautiful and awesome 🌌💖
Thank you!! ❤️
Excellent, my next pedal board will be something like this but will include the EHX Tri Parallel Mixer instead of the Signal Blender. I can't wait to hear what you will come up with!
The Tri Parallel Mixer is also great!! I hope to do some jams with my new setup soon!
where'd you end up picking up the belt kit from?
I got it from a Dutch website: www.electro-andijk.nl
Just tried it. Pico Poly Mode is clicky and useless. Returning it. :\ Like why even include the function, if it's clearly broken? WTF, EHX?
That is really disappointing! In the end I went with the bigger unit because I like the sound more
@@AmbientExploration I already HAVE the bigger one! I was trying to make more space on my board, but somehow EHX released a pedal that is just inherently flawed? That's a new one for them. :\
Okay, I have to get myself a looper for the beginning of my chain!!! It´s such a relaxing thing turning knobs and being suprised by what´s happening next.
Yes, more loopers!! MOOD is really complicated but there are lots of other options that are quick to master. What does your signal chain look like now?
@@AmbientExploration It's a larger board at the moment... Ehx-RingThing Carbon-Overdrive Odyssey-Distortion Mood GenLoss SquishAs Microcosm DD500-Delay SpaceForce-Reverb Ehx-22500 Looper. So essentially I have already three Loopers on my board, the DD500 excluded, but something before Mood seems to be a pretty good idea...
@Andreas_tropicalwinter that’s an impressive board :) I like to have multiple loopers on the board that can capture slices of your playing and one looper at the end of the chain to catch the total sound. This way you can clear the other loopers and start a new drone/sound on sound. I’ll be updating my signal chain soon!
@@AmbientExploration Yes, working back from the end of the chain to the beginning is a good idea. I have to dive deeper into what's possible on my board! What do you plan to update?
@Andreas_tropicalwinter after this session I want the MOOD to have a more prominent place on the board. I’m looking to use it more as a compositional tool. But I also want to get the most out of the great reverb it offers, so I’m not sure if I want it at the begining or end of the chain.
