Stay away from cobalt. The best is 90-10 iridium, but 95-5 ruthenium is okay too

I agree, I did a casting with 95% plat and 5% Iridium for my engagement ring. The prongs are strong, ring looks great, but it scratches so easily! I wish I saw your video earlier! Do only plat alloy with cobalt or Ruthenium!!!!

Hello Lucian, yes it is possible to alloy platinum and osmium. There is actually a common application for this PT/OS alloy for high quality fountain pens. The tipping material of the nib is a an alloy of platinum /osmium, platinum/ruthenium or platinum/tungsten which are shaped into tiny pellets, which are soldered or welded onto a nib tip prior to cutting the nib slit and grinding the tip into its final shape. Untipped steel or titanium points will wear more rapidly due to abrasion by the paper and pt/os fountain pen nibs "last forever".

Or can the type of design enabled by 3D justify the price and how do prices of 3D Pt compare with Au. This does seem like the real beginning after a very long gestation - will follow with interest
