One of my 8 Country features on Campsites. In this one I picked up a group of campers from Mote Marine Laboratory aboard the Kinship and we sailed to Egmont Key at the mouth of Tampa Bay for an overnight adventure.
Safety Village
zhlédnutí 27Před rokem
Came across this 8 Country story while going through the archives. Photographer Less Rose and I had as much fun exploring the place as the kids did. Sadly Safety Village is no more. I understand there is an effort to revitalize it. You can find out more about it on the web.
The Suncoast Seabird Sanctuary

This is a look at the Suncoast Seabird Sanctuary Produced and hosted by Environmental Scientist Bonnie Hite. Following the documentary is a news segment that appeared on the NBC station in Tampa.
Rambling Raft Race

Just came across this one. Too bad the event proved too rowdy for the City of Tampa to continue the tradition. My crew won our division several times :)
Captain Morgan Stinemetz
zhlédnutí 70Před rokem
Maritime Journalist Morgan Stinemetz has passed away he was 85. Morgan and I were friends for a long time and shared many sea stories together. During his long career he wrote for every boating magazine I can think of and compiled a delightful book from his weekly articles in the Sarasota Herald Tribune about a boater named Bubba Whartz. Bubba lived aboard a derelict boat moored "out in the har...
The Florida Manatee
zhlédnutí 39Před rokem
I am posting this on November 1 as this is the beginning of Manatee Awareness Month. I shot this back in the early 80's but it is still as relevant today as it was back then. In fact, more so. Back then Florida's human population was around ten million while today it is over twenty million. How many more boaters are out there now than when I first focused on the threat to our gentle giants?

This is a footage from the trip. from the Sassafras River on the Chesapeake Bay down to Apollo Beach on Tampa Bay in late June of 1977 for my new job at WFLA-TV. First is a short piece I did for the station for a special they produced for my retirement in 2007 followed by most of the raw footage I shot along the way on the trip using my Dad's Bolex. Unfortunately I didn't have my Dad's light me...

Thank you, Bob. Well done video. Now I’m feeling inspired to do a hot air balloon painting, too! 👍
I sailed on The Bill of Rights back in '88. I miss her. I'll never forget her, or stop thinking about the sea.
I am on the movie poster. They put Artie Johnsons head on my body.
Bad chad checking in, love the showtown, worked there, drank theree.
Excellent presentation of fla and our heritage and cracker cowboys.proud of my cracker heritage
I had a Florida "Cow hunter" work for me in Arizona back about 30 years ago. He told me about cowboyin around Lake Okeechobee. I always liked to hear him talk about herding cattle towards the line of trees or "islands" as he called them, and the slightly different types of gear, whips, pistol carry (saddle vs hip), grub, foot gear etc. He was a cool cat. Then one day he drew his wages and just rolled out, and I never saw him again
He's probably back in Florida Greyman, like everybody else that where old Cowboys go to retire :)

What a sad day 😢damn it, it pisses me off.
Wait what1:55 there was firing squads in 70s 😮
Firing squad sentences in Utah ended in 2004. But there are still 5 men on d eth row who are eligible for it if the state doesn't have the proper drugs for a lethal injection on the day their de th sentence is finally carried out.
Man, I miss his sportscasts on channel 8 and his 10 AM radio show on WDAE. I was trying to remember what he used to say at the end of his show. It was something like "When you love someone let them know." Anyone know what it was exactly?
See you tomorrow...God willing if the creek don't rise. Or something like that. Loved his radio show on WDAE.
@@tristan2332 No he said that too, but I was referring to this: Never forget to tell those you love that you love them!
I loved Chris Thomas and listened to him every day on the radio. He was so funny!!! ❤
Love you papa
God willing and the creek don't rise...... Man, this dude was the best.

Dang this man was fine as hell not to mention super intelligent and giving the aurora of super competent. FDOT's lack of concern was disgusting.

Hello Bob, Her legend lives on in ALL of us on Tampa Bay that knew her. I never stepped on her decks, nor trimmed her sails but she was a grand girl. Your stories are always good ones, you should share more. When I first met your colleague Gail S and yourself, back in our younger day, you guys brought excitement and fun to the interviews during my boatbuilding days on 1project named "Quest". Fair winds my friend and hope we catch up soon.
Thanks for the kind words Bill. By the way I knew about Charlie, even called Ch8 to tell them but as I'm out of the viewing area don't know if they did anything. Last time I saw Charlie was when I was over shooting a story on Less Lathrops restoration of Ask No Quater. We had a wonderful visit but being Charlie how could it not be. Give me that call :)
I’ll never forget the day Bob was pumping out the bilge with a garden hose and I took a humongous gulp of Kinship bilge water. 😂
My grandpa told me a lot of stories of Doyle I’m 6th generation Floridian and seeing the land that I use to hunt cattle with my grandpa 20 years ago being housing developments and stuff now really hurts me
Right there with you brother. I grew up in Manatee County all of my life and remember when anything east of I-75 was nothing but cow pasture and pine forest. It’s starting to seem like the only way to live this lifestyle is moving further and further east into central Florida, north Florida or some parts of south Florida.
And as you saw Folks, that "Death Tax" isn't making it any easier.
Spanish Vaquero is a foundation of the cowboy
First cousins for sure.

Hi Ellie :)
If cracking was a non-issue, then why did they race to flood the interior to equalize the pressure? It would be interesting to know when the last time divers have inspected the cracks and compare them now with previous documentation.
The cracks were the issue. The only issue. It was always the plan to flood the interior of the "cones" to "balance" the exterior pressure excreted by the bay waters surrounding them. That of course is ridiculous.
Have no idea. I don't work as an investigative reporter anymore. Call the DOT yourself. You have every right to go t their offices and and ask to see the latest inspections reporter and photos.
@@KINSHIPPRODUCTIONS Oh, Ok that info "that it was always the plan" alleviates my concern. Thanks for your reply :)
What places did you work in Iraq?
Multiple FOB's, towns and cities such as Mosul, Kirkuk and Bagdad of course.

I grew up in Florida, in Gainesvile. But I also lived in a small town called Arcadia and went to school in Lakeland. I met some ranchers through our church. (Baptist, of course.) They're good folks.
You're darn tootin Karen :)
I grew up in Arcadia i don’t live there anymore but I miss it every day
@@hpsoutdoors1836 Everyone in Arcadia has immpecable manners, even the poor folks. It's a Southern thing.
I grew up in Bartow. Citrus, cattle and phosphate mines were king back then.
Your dad does the "This is CBS" IDs too
Yes he did. They used him all over the place :)

Can't imagine who you are to come to that conclusion. No one brought me in to Iraq or any other war zone. I went because I wanted to tell the story of my fellow Americans in uniform. The Mujahiseen were not my enemies nor did they destroy me. I did not suffer but was embolden by men who will risk their lives to free thair people from the likes of a Sadam in Iraq or the Russian invaders in Afghanistan.
Please tell me the name of the poem Robert Butler is quoting in this video. I really would like to know because it’s beautiful and I would like to know who wrote this poem.
A painter and poet Patricia. As I recall, after some thought, Robert made it up on the spot.
