Jeep Liberty 3.7L Air Intake Installation K&N Performance mods. Pt.1 K&N air filter.
This video is an intro to my 3.7L Jeep Liberty mods.
In this video I show you how easy it is to add more and performance to the Jeep Liberty 3.7L engine by modifying the stock air intake system, adding a K&N air filter and doing a basic tune up and exhaust delete.
The future video mods to my Jeep Liberty were done to the stock heads, intake manifold, exhaust manifold, throttle body and were virtually all free!
I have some more planed videos and tricks up my sleeve as the horse power bug can't be soothed. What you see in this video is from the first steps in adding power to this dog of a motor.

I’ve never done a head gasket, but it may be in my future. I’m really glad I stumbled upon your video. Thank you sir.
My 4x4 '04 Dakota has the 3.7 Magnum dogsuk motor, at 15mpg. (With 3.9 gearing) I would watch the videos if you'll ever post them.
Where you getting 50 dollar heads at
Pin n save. The price went up a bit they’re $53 now
picnsave.ca/used-auto-parts-pricing/
as long as you don't want it flat
Imagine if Mercedes did this to your cyclinder head. 😂
You need to watch “Project Farm” video on air filters . K&N are HORRIBLE on Jeeps or offroad vehicles . They will dust and ruin your engine.. it is a Jeep not a corvette . And yea dont go in the water with that jeep no more either unless ya wanna hydro lock the engine.. the stock air box allows the engine to breath dry air in extremely wet conditions where K&N is just straight water to the engine .. But hey not my Jeep go for it ..
Good job, and I'm sure the machine shop boys will feel uncomfortable with the idea of sanding a head down flat, but ot works if you're dedicated and careful. It also means you're only removing the bare minimum of material by this method.
Is the head still assembled? Is it possible to surface the head without taking that all apart?
It depends on the head, some valves sit below the deck surface. Most heads can but it’s risky. You don’t want all that filth making it’s way into your oil when you bolt it back down. It has to be perfectly clean inside and out.
What finishing grit sand paper did you use?
Dude! Awesome! Thank you for the captions! Now I know what to use on the feeler gauge! Please keep making vids like this
Amico, una dima di precisione dovrebbe essere impiegata. Il righello in acciaio che usi non è rettificato e non è adatto per questo impiego
first time watcher, very intelligent and elaborate explanations thank you, that outro caught me off guard lol I did something similar to this for my 2014 SRT8 392 hemi (6.4L) cylinder head but now have a huge oil leak. I googled, and read that it has a Fire Ring or Fire Deck built into the cylinder head -- I used a straight edge file and it took off a little bit more around the cylinder bore than the rest of the head, I read filing down this Fire Ring can actually compromise and scrap the head. Do you know anything about these Fire Rings?
Try to get flat as possible, shop around for a thick head gasket, and use copper spray.
That's an ok technique. I guess. I prefer to use a cinder block. I just knock off the loose gravel and go to town. Works great. I'll throw some crisco on there every once in a while to keep it lubed. Head gasket seals fine. Just like yours will !! Keep on sanding.
Hello brother i wanted change my air box 2 to some applies to yours the problem is that sensors...show me how to transform it?
Just turn off traction control 🤦🏽♂️you get the same outcome
The 1st gen jeep liberty doesn't have traction control 🤦♂️
Vacuum leak
LOL lets take the airbox out that gets fresh air from outside and put in a system that gets hot air from under the hood... yup makes since.
There's not enough surface on the sander to keep the head flat not a good idea this guy doesn't know what he's talking about
Its not a liberty but it is a Nitro 3.7 4x4 and i definitely want more HP
why
Great video and tips. I am working on similar heads for my ford 4.0 SOHC. Lapping the new valves right now and holding onto the old valves to do some porting and polishing before fully reassembling things. Look forward to your upcoming video on the port and polish. This is my first go with SOHC heads, most of my experience is porting and polishing old V8 ford heads.
In my experience, the extra work in porting and polishing does not lead to significant power production improvement. The engine cam is in control of how much air the engine takes in, it's volume/force, etc... So if the cam lift/duration hasn't been increased or a turbo/supercharger wasn't bolted on the engine likely will not benefit from that sort of machining. This is particularly true for passenger car engines. Also, you need to be careful how much material you remove from aluminum heads as it could cause heat induced cracking if you take to much material off in certain places.
@@curtispaul9717 Thank you for the insight. I am a bit weary of doing aluminum heads and it makes sense about the cam. Finding more performance cams for the 4.0 sohc seems to be quite a challenge. Honestly the engine makes good power as it is with a few mods. The 03 ranger it is in is a hoot to drive. I have ported and matched iron heads when I built a 69 390 to replace the worn out 352 in my 66 f250. That one I did put a higher lift cam in and added ram air among other mods to increase performance. Lots of fun getting sideways in a 2 ton truck when you mash it and beating newer 5.0 mustangs off the line till they caught me around 85mph, the truck had a top speed of 103 downhill, hehe. Its a stump puller but was still fun. I also plan on doing head work on the 400 in my 77 tbird with a hotter cam. Will pull the motor when I pull the front clip and fender to replace the parts from being t-boned, sigh.
Yeah a head skim is very cheap if the heads actually known to have overheated id get it skimmed but if youre just building a motor up then id use emery paper over the whole head face but not a machine
How did you deck the block?
You shouldn’t need too. It’s pretty rare for a block surface to warp to the point it needs to be machined
@@restosandrevivals4597 Thanks for the quick response, and info.
@@restosandrevivals4597 I recommend not making an assumption that one doesn't need to. It is important to check when working with over head cam heads. It's not uncommon for block decks to not be perfectly flat from the factory, which often is one of the reasons why head gaskets fail prematurely on some cars, particularly when the engine did not overheat leading to head warpage. All engine milling production lines produce questionable machining quality right up before scheduled tool maintenance change outs and recalibrations. More common in V6 and inline blocks, especially if they are aluminum. Every mass produced engine can be susceptible to block deck surfaces being off.
Update
Lies my will bark the fuck outta the tires stock
Nice for low budget guys like me...😂
What was the outcome
That is some Burt Monroe shit, awesome video. This is what a poor person like me has to do
True....fun to watch.
Yeah I have an old Farmall Super A with a C123 engine. Need to fix a Crack on top surface, a new block cost $400 +$250 shipping. So it's not like I can make it broker. Worth a shot, gonna try lock n stitch cold sewing for Crack. If the set isn't to expensive.
Exactly! I'm glad you get the point. Some people are oblivious to the thought of not being able to make it broker!! haha Use a thick piece of glass or a table saw to get it as flat as possible!
@@restosandrevivals4597 work with what you got.
If you want to keep it running for a long time, it may be worth the expense of having the bore cut and a sleeve put in, as a preservation step. With DIY block cracks, it's a 50/50 on if all that work was pointless.
@@curtispaul9717 thanks for the advice
My hand doesn’t even spend that much time on my KJ’s shifter, and I’ve got the NSG370 in mine.
Eagle Talon owner, I'm always banging gears so it's a habit now lol
I approve of this message however i disapprove your sanding table! I would have used a glass flat piece of glass as my sanding bench 🤷🏼♂️
Couldn't agree more! It's a beater though so it's ok! ha
I picked up a granite cutout from a 36" sink for $10 to be able to flat sand an aluminum intake and spacer. Got any idea what Ra reading (wet sanding grit) is best for use with thermal/phenolic intake gaskets? Thanks..
Instead of using your workbench .buy a rem piece of granite . would get flatter surface for sure
Definitely a good idea! The pain of glass also works well
Nah bruh my liberty does fat burnouts.
I got the same Jeep 2004
Bye bye 19 inch water clearance
Nice video I wonder So what did you do with the breather hoses it had ?? I think they go to the crankcase
Oh wait I see , my Jeep liberty has the air intake resonator of the first jeep you show in the video , so my configuration should look like your very first jeep (the one to the right side ) so I guess I need to remove the current air filter and get the k&n one , I see you also had some panels or separators there where the K&N was resting on, where can I get those so I can also create that rectangle area to put the new filter ?
The pcv (valve case breather ) can be canceled by getting a small I take filter prob 1.25 inch (mesher first lol ) then you don't need the line as long as the case can breath u are good an keeps the throttle body cleaner without that oily smoke getting in
EW. Sick. Dudes got mental issues. Big time.
You're a nut and I love it, subbed. I'm about to buy one of these and would love to see your parts list.
Great video!!!well done!!!!I would like to ask is it possible to install manual transmission 5 speed and maintain the option of the 4 wheel drive???😉
No
I actually don't know
@@krilll1829 Thank you very much for your response!!!!
Amazing how much difference .2 horsepower can make!
It’s got a lot more than that! The heads are fully ported and polished, backcut valves, ported intake and exhaust manifolds, throttle body plus a bunch of other stuff. A tuneup is where to start though
lol. They most think they got 20 hp instead. Morons..
What exhaust did you use.
I have a liberty definitely about to do this sounds good💪🏽🔥
Been a yr lol dam I hope mine don't go that way an mine spins wheels stock af
Fr where’s the update Ik he said there’s a lot of footage but I wanna mod my liberty already and do some burnskies 😅😂
Is there like a dye or paint you can use so when you sand, you see the low spots
Dykem would probably work
Wheres the rest of the vids?
Prob put a SB chevy in it lol.
Thats jacked up, whats the mods dude.
What about filling the small Crack with a dab of weld? Then sanding that down.
"Dab of weld" thats cast aluminum. Youre going to make the head unusable. Do not try this guys advice either
@@krotchlickmeugh627 cast aluminium heads are weldable, everybody knows this, why don't you ?
