Man that head east concert and foreigner concert brings such fond memories to my heart
I don’t think I would have shared that story. But love their music. Their drummer was way underrated!
Great story! I wonder how Baxster is today???
RIP Steve.
What a great recording by a great entertainer.
I live 30 minutes from Champaign. When I was a kid growing up in a tiny farm town, there was nothing to do but grow weed and listen to music. Head East was so hot at the time, we had heard about them. Not from the radio, but word of mouth. Sadly, I never got to go see them as we were all around 15, but we damn sure wanted to.
Orange barrels lol😅
Head East Flat as a Pancake
Saw Head East, Foreigner, April Wine, 1 other band that was great. Then The Outlaws at the 76 Iowa Jam Mem Day Weekend 🎤🎸🤘🔥🔥💯
So what became of Baxter Forest Twilight? Did the FBI ever catch up with him?
Steve seems like a pretty good ol boy
I would’ve just answered “never been any reason” to that question.
Awesome story from a Awesome band!!
That’s cool!! I’d wondered how they came up with that name.
Dan Josephsen on lead guitar. Who are the other players?
Head East has some of the bestttt music
Saw Head East in Stevens Point, WI in either 1979 or 80. Best time ever! Flat as a Pancake is an awesome album.
i started listening to Head East when i was a freshman in high school. i have never stopped . EXCELLENT keyboard work.i have persuded the keyboard because of my mentors. play on my brothers
Head East played my high school dance in 69 or 70….at that time I thought they were good but had no idea they would become classic rockers!
I always wondered about that. Now I know, but I'm going to wonder what became of Baxter.
Absolutely Awesome!!!!! What a Grrrrrreart way to come up with that name!!!!!! Names of Bands Always come up at crazy unbelievable Times!!!!!
Beautiful music. What a great band.
It was a pretty live room; but sounded great when everybody was going. Presumably better in person than on YT.
I remember them starting out as "The Timeations" in 1969.
They did a great job with mule skinner blues. Makes me laugh every time
I thought the guys were from STL. The diner on the Flat As A Pancake album is on Olive Blvd. I'd swear a few still live in STL. Anybody??
"Orange Barrel"! That was the name of the dose back in the baby seventies.
CZcams radio DJ vee
The best stories are all coming from boomers.
From 3:33 on Bill Grady seems a little starstruck after Huston sets him straight that Orange sunshine not juice, was the culprit behind "Baxter Twilight's" magic vision. It's Steves story after all Bill... "Great to have us here"?? Projecting much Bill, Freudian slip? Well, it IS great to have Steve from the original Head East anywhere indeed! A fan since 1969...
That my music teacher
That's awesome. I remember Orange Sunshine well.
My girlfriend and I met in Las Vegas, we were both from Maryland, therefore she and I loved the band Head East.
Great band !!! 👍
Rich Creador was my son guitar teacher.
My first concert June 1978. Foreigner with opening act Head East, so they were truly the first rock band I saw. I still play in cover bands and we just recently brought on an amazing keyboardist. I’ve already told him ... dude, get busy learning Never Been Any Reason. I never get tired of that song, and I think the crowds will go nuts over it. 🤘
Steve was my Pro Tools instructor at the Art Institute of Houston 20+ years ago. He had lots of great stories like this. Fun class!
Horrible name for a band , if they would of came up with a cool name they would of sold more records.
I saw Head East in Nov '79 in Springfield, MO. One of the very best concerts I've ever been to.
Steve miss you at The Alpine Lounge DM IA
Steve opened a studio in Indianola Iowa he was known to have a few libations on Ingersoll Ave in Des Moines I hung out with Mike "TINY"Rogers who worked with him during the JJ Steele days and kurt bass player miss all you guys
The Alpine Lounge Des Moines
The Indianola studio, South River Studios, was owned by Michael Jury Lawyer. Hardboys fans will know it. Steve brought bands in and acted as producer. Later Mike moved the studio to Des Moines and added video production as well. This was the studio that Slipknot recorded their first 2 records. If I remember the story correctly. Mike passed away in 2003 at 42. Great guy, drummer and artist.
Glad to know this because i really did often wonder why they would call themselves such a name...thanks for getting that question out of my head ! !
I saw Head East when they very first started getting popular ( or at least when "there's never been any reason came out") at Peabody's in Coeur d' Alene Idaho. Those were the best times of my LIFE. My gosh, where has the time gone?
What was the original band name?
I believe it was The Time-ations. Roger Boyd on keyboards and his brother Larry on bass started out in Carlyle, IL in the late 60s and the band morphed and improved. I was in an art class with Steve Huston @ Kaskaskia College before he moved to Champaign (U of Illinois)
Oh Head East... I've missed you Since You've Been Gone!
Since this Covid thing I haven't seen Sandy at Moony Hollow at all this year. Miss you Sandy.
Where's Baxter now?? lol. Wouldn't finding him be a HOOT. I'D like to shake his hand. The name was Genius!!
I guess Head East didn't have a dental plan.
Steve, just one thing...give me more cowbell. Thanks!
great band head east
