IL Wheat Check off Proposal
IL wheat growers are being asked to support a wheat check off program that will be used to promote their crop and fund research for wheat hybrids that are better suited for IL, including for double cropping with soybeans. Wheat grower Don Guinnip of Clark Co. says his colleagues are circulating petitions that will be submitted to the IL Dept. of Agriculture for approval, with the hope that a referendum could be held next spring to approve the concept. The check-off rate being sought would be 1.5₵ per bu. says Guinnip.

How can any farmer with at least 1 ounce of integrity justify using a chemical that, not only poisons people, but destroys the crops of their neighboring farmers. I had this happen to me, and I know first hand the devastation that Dicamba and 2,4-d can cause. They need to BOTH be banned permanently. Period.

If you don’t have anything good to say, don’t say it, so I’ll just say thank you for all your hard work. As a farmer, having corn based britches does sound pretty cool. OK, I can’t help myself, I just have to ask, has anyone considered adding a crop or two to the system? That would deal with the surplus and bring prices up. Or does the corn and soybean growers association have too many guns pointed at peoples heads behind the scenes? They seem to kill pretty much any good idea that comes up, and I just think they are keeping us down instead of helping us.
