My best day on the CSX Charlotte Sub
The footage in this video was captured in roughly a 4 1/2 hour period in the fall of 1996. Almost 30 years later, this still holds the record for my best day on the Charlotte Sub. Highlights include a stealth paint SD60, a GP30M in Chessie Paint, and a UP SD50 on F775 switching the Union Camp pulpwood yard. All scenes around Lattimore, NC.

NS SB line - The "Peavine"
zhlédnutí 1,7KPřed 6 měsíci
The NS SB line from Blacksburg, SC to Shelby, NC was another one of those I didn't get to chase nearly as much as I would have liked. This was mostly due to the fact that most days, it ran well after dark. The best chance for daylight runs was on Sunday afternoons and that is when this handful of shots were made. These shots range from the summer of 1995 to summer of 1998. High hood GP38s were ...

Here's one for fans of the stealth C40-8s. The CSX Shelby local out of Bostic Yard (F775) worked Union Camp 5 days a week as long as the pulpwood yard was in operation. A transload facility now occupies the property and is still served by the Shelby local.

Anyone who is a fan of the Clinchfield Railroad will know that the yard at Bostic NC was an important interchange with the Seaboard Air Line. This video footage goes back to the fall of 1994 when there was still some power variety on CSX. Although I had been photographing trains for a little over a year at this point, this was the first video I had ever shot so it's not the most technically per...

Once again we turn the clock back to 2006. Coal was king and the Blue Ridge was bustling. Most days had a meet a nearly every siding between Erwin and Bostic and manned pushers shoved loaded coal trains through the gorge and cut off on the fly at Poplar. Sad to think what it's been reduced to.

I’ve been waiting for footage like this to surface. I knew it was out there somewhere! Glad you posted this. I grew up in Shelby and spent a lot of time at my grandparents house which was off of Poplar Springs Church Rd. Back then we’d go to the farmers market in downtown Shelby in the early 2000’s. I was just a kid but I remember that local trotting through town. My grandfather worked for Shelby Concrete Supply and laid a lot of sidewalks for the town as well as doing some work with the old southern depot. He gave me some old switch lists from the 1970’s that were from the depot and I digitally archived them. Would be happy to share if anyone was interested.

Southern Railway System had a bunch of F units. Rode behind some on an Atlanta/Birmingham excursion @1972. I think the lead unit was an Alco RS3. Two FP7s wound up at Georgia's Stone Mountain Scenic Railroad at Stone Mountain Park. They were painted in a beautiful lime green, yellow and silver paint scheme, reminiscent of The Central of Georgia. I guess they're still there.
