It's hard to watch her, she is still a tragic figure, who still desperately mourning and in love with Sergei. These two men she later married are substitutes , she misses Sergei so much and feels such an incredible loss still, that she yearns for how he made her feel when they were in a relationship and married. She is mirroring her old life with her deceased husband by marrying different men in the same profession. She is still in love with Sergei and still very sad and fragile deepbin her heart. Being with other men who also skate like Sergei did, helps her to feel a connection to him and also helps her to feel safe again. Katia is a tragic soul but I understand her. At least she is living and doing the best she knows how. I lost my beloved husband of 25 years in 09. I get her pain so well. 😢
