    Hi, CZcams sent me here, so I decided to watch this even though it is an old video. I shoot professionally too. (in our business we shoot exclusively on Fuji) A really good video, I have the Sigma 56mm F/1.4 and was so impressed I pre-ordered the Sigma 23mm F/1.4 which quickly became my favourite X-Mount lens My studio setup is pretty much an X-T3 and the Sigma 56mm and 23mm lenses (with the 35mm F/1.4 which has been relegated to backup) My EDC is the X100 VI, where the 40MP makes sense since you are stuck with the single focal length (this camera is special) . We have an X-T5 which I'd grab if I either needed the 40MP or needed the new autofocus, but since I did a Studio shoot 2 days ago using the X-T3 and Sigma 56mm and only one photo out of 86 was not in focus, I'm not worried about autofocus I've subscribed, I hope you continue making videos in the future

    The « infinitely spinning » aperture ring has nothing to do with the cheap lenses but is rather due to the variable aperture… How could you mark the aperture since it changes according to how zoomed-in or out the lens is? 😊

    I can pull my iphone out and take quick snapshots or quick little videos without using my phone for anything else for days without bother. I'm quite happy to do this because I don't have facebook, Very seldom check Instagram or care who's messaged me (in general) until I'm 'either at home or not doing anything important. I made a decision to treat smart phones like this from day one. Even with a camera like the Camp Snap, I'd still bring a phone with me for emergencies. So, not for me, I've actually owned and used many crappy cameras over the years and don't miss them one bit, my iphone is 'good enough' that's all. Still, I appreciate your opinion!

      @@destin-danser After reading my comment I now realise that it probably reads somewhat negative towards the Camp Snap, it wasn't meant too. I understand some people really need to find ways to detox from social media, take a break from it whichever way they can, if this camera helps to achieve this; I think that's great. Also, if some folk like the challenge of seeing what they can snap with such a camera, then; kudos to them. Oh, good video, great job on your studio set up too, Destin.

    Great video, with well thought out points. I'm trying to buy an XT3 but getting a decent price is a bit tricky in Aus. I think XT5s always being sold out isn't helping. I bought an XT2 a few months ago to test out the Fuji system. I like it so much I'm selling off my Nikon gear (d810 too). Anyway, I have one big issue with my XT2 which is the main reason I want an XT3, in the hope it solves it... The problem is the hot pixels at anything near 1 sec shutter speed or slower. I've tried the noise reduction feature (I think that's what its called?), which helps a bit with the JPG. So - as you shoot astro and landscape (where long shutter speeds are common) - how is the XT3 in this regard? I've searched google and asked on facebook groups and cannot find anything concrete RE XT2 or XT3 and hot pixels noise. Maybe I just have a bad XT2 (it's otherwise perfect)? Thanks!

    I just bought an RRS Ascend 14 travel tripod for $1650. As soon as I took it out of the box, I knew what I was looking at - the tripod equivalent of a $10,000 bicycle. The design and build quality are exceptional. I used to build bicycles that were works of art and performance. Most cyclists thought it was nuts, but I would send good riders on test rides in the hills and they would return shaking their heads and checking their savings balances. The harder you use them, the better they work. Until you know this level of quality - you can't understand it. I have several good tripods I have collected over the decades. They are all going away. It's obvious that there is no comparison.

      I thought the same thing until I bought one - it really is a long term investment if you’re going to be into photography for the rest of your life. I’m definitely not well off, I just got sick of wearing out cheap tripods. I have absolutely zero doubt that this tripod will still be going strong and holding my cameras in 30 years when I’m in my 60s, even if I use it every day. There are VERY few tripods I could say that about on the market today.

    Still have my Ep-1 from back in the day. These Pens are built really well. My IBIS has died and apparently it’s a common thing on these bodies. It does make you think, when the internet destroys cameras like, say, my Canon RP, we have just become so spoilt and forget we have come a long way with modern technology.

    • @destin-danser
      @destin-danser Před 3 měsíci

      Totally agreed! It’s making me want to go buy a few of the cameras I owned over a decade ago and see if they still have some life left in them. I find alot of value in carrying around cheaper cameras that I don’t have to worry about losing/damaging so much. The IBIS in this E-P3 is still working, but it definitely seems to be a common failure point.

    Good review! I own this bag as well as the 34L version, but your right, the 34L version is a bit too big. I just got the Mindshift "sprint" version, which I really like, it's slimmer, lighter but just perfect for my A7R5 + 100-400 2.8 GM and OM-1, it's best for that quick after work or short 1-2 hour picture taking walk. I also own the Mindshift "Rotation 180" bag, which I also really like, I only wish though they modified the bag so the top is designed with a roll up sleeve (kinda like the shimoda bags) to allow more storage, that way I can quickly access my camera and when I need more room to put my jacket or sweatshirt, etc...I can fit it in the top part of the bag - especially when I start early in the morning but by late morning it's time to remove layers...I can store it more easily. I told a Mindshift representative my suggestion (during a camera store grand opening), he was open to hearing my suggestion, hopefully they will take it to heart! Enjoy watching your channel and I subscribed.

    As someone who's shot and scanned a lot of film, I'd say the pictures from this look better than scans from the 400 or 800 speed film used in a disposable, and that's pretty much the point of this camera, something to use instead of a disposable or other cheap film camera. Some of my most memorable shots were from a cheap drug store camera with similar capabilities to a disposable, because it was small and I didn't worry too much about losing or breaking it so I always had it with me and ready. So this is like that except without the expense of film.

    Those supposed old cameras are nowhere to be found at the camera stores now. I have mine nut bought mine like back in 2016 as an old camera and it was just 80 usd for the body and you could buy an Xpro1 for 300 usd and an XE-1 for 270. I really regret not pulling the trigger now because I thought those things were old. With the rise of film prices suddenly old digital cameras are not thought to be outdated anymore which is both good and kinda bad since things will be more expensive now for us low budget shooters.

      @@destin-danser The reason I forgot to mention is that those EP cameras of Olympus I could readily buy one because I could immediately fork the money out of pocket. Thats why I have Two EP1s and an EP3. I had using credit cards except for buying plane tickets. So I did not buy an XPO 1 and an XE1 the glass case was literally full of them when the XPO2 came out. I hope what you say will be true but I don't see it coming. Today a used good XPO2 is 1500usd for body and accessories. Thats a good old camera. Shooters like pros and especially hobbyist have learned after 10 plus years of these good old digital cameras are really fine to use up until now if you shot it right because finally everybody knows 98 percent of us only see those shots on our phones, tablets, and computers. You can't. really tell if that was taken with an expensive Leica or an EP3.

      That’s funny, because Fuji did the exact opposite to me. I shot Nikon for a long time and was 100% still images only, and Fuji has pushed my transition into hybrid/video shooting - especially since I got the X-H2.

    Thanks for the review, my old point and shoot just died and spending a lot on films and film developing was quite annoying for my tiny budget (cartooonist here, we're poor) and this could be a good solution to get the nostalgic touch of my point and shoot with a digital cam !

    You mentioned the absence of IBIS amost as an afterthought. Compared to later models, no IBIS is a significant drawback. You can carry around extra batteries - no big deal -, but you can't install IBIS (though, I concede, optical stabilization is available with some lenses).

    • @destin-danser
      @destin-danser Před 4 měsíci

      I’m working on a video currently to explain my thoughts on this in detail, but my general opinion is that IBIS is really only important for those who shoot handheld video. When it comes to photography, IBIS is only useful in a very small range of shutter speeds - too slow and it’s useless, too fast and you don’t need it. Furthermore, because it only helps with camera shake, it’s generally only useful in situations where nothing in the frame is moving, which is a pretty small subset of photos. Also, modern ISO performance is so good that I’m not fighting to keep iso levels super low anymore, so I rarely need slow shutter speeds unless I want them for creative reasons - in which case I’d use a tripod anyway. I guess if you routinely photograph scenes where nothing is moving, at shutter speeds between ~2 seconds and 1/focal length, and you just absolutely don’t want to use a tripod - then you can say that IBIS is important to your still photography. As a landscape photographer: I will always use a tripod. As a wedding, portrait, event, and sports photographer: I’ll never accept a shutter speed slow enough to worry about camera shake in the first place.

      I’m not sure when you checked prices, or maybe the pricing is different where you are - here in the states, the pricing at BH Photo for the gear you listed comes out to $1,861, so it’s about the same price as the RRS that I reviewed in this video.

    Oh man, I'm looking to buy a video tripod with fluid head, and after watching a gerald undone video, thought a manfrotto would be enough, now you're telling me those things break after a few years. Next options are Siriu and Sachtler, $2K & $4K.

    • @destin-danser
      @destin-danser Před 4 měsíci

      To be fair, I never owned manfrotto’s most expensive stuff. I’m sure they make good quality tripods, and I can’t speak to their video heads at all. I’m in the market for a video tripod myself, but I don’t really have thousands to invest in it right now so I’m going to be looking for a budget option of some sort. I’ve heard good things about leofoto - maybe look into them as well.

    "comparing it to the Fujifilm 70-300" did you use it? I own and love the 55-200 but I somewhat expected some kind of hands on experience (or nice shots) with the compared lens. Also, to relate to those saying it's "soft at 200mm", this lens suffers from a multitude of unlucky QC issues where the elements gets decentered very easily from shocks and dinks. I assume the OIS motor fragility is to blame here. I've gone through 5 copies of it including 3 new buy/return instances over 6 months time (often waiting a month to make sure I get one from a new batch) before settingly on a well centered copy of it. Nevertheless, I really enjoy the way this lens renders and is still my to go lens for outdoor concert photography during music festival and such. The aperture makes it good enough over the 70-300. Thx for sharing your thoughts and gorgeous shots on the lens.

    • @destin-danser
      @destin-danser Před 4 měsíci

      I agree that a hands on comparison with the 70-300 would have been nice, but I couldn’t make it happen unfortunately, and ultimately the point of the video was that I’m so happy with the 55-200 that I haven’t felt compelled to spend the extra money anyway. I think the 70-300 is objectively the better lens, it’s just way more expensive. I’ve had two copies of the 55-200 (old the first and regretted it) and haven’t had any issues with either one of them - both have held up very well. I’m not a pixel peeper though, so maybe others would say mine is a “bad copy.” Thanks so much for watching the video and taking the time to leave your thoughts, I appreciate it!
