Dairy Walk SW19
Dairy Walk, not far from the famous tennis courts, Dairy Walk It is an ancient right of way to, said to have been once taken by milkmaids delivering to the grand houses dotted around Wimbledon Common. It has been transformed into a “Garden of Delights,” and is worth a visit if you are in the area.
At the entrance is the locally famous turnstile, a historical artefact. The idea was to keep large livestock out, in an era when animals were still driven along the streets. The borders of the path have been turned into beautifully maintained gardens by local resident and guerilla gardener Barbara Dowling. They form a stunning array of plants and decorative flourishes including a small shrine.
