Darkthrone - Fenriz 2006 "forest walking" interview
Fenriz sharing tips, philosophy and warnings about hiking, forest walking, maps, getting lost, sticks, sandals, gloves, and stuff. Got this on a freebie DVD with a German magazine I bought in 2006, which also explains the subtitles.

From our first album "Redbad" (2007). We’ve all gathered 'round the fire dressed in wolven skins our shaman wise, he called us utt’ring words of violence The raven’s song had reached his ear a vision of the cross his tongue was cut, his heart was torn the shaman’s worst of dreams was born He warned of messengers of East they hail a false sunrise theirs is a son of cunning words for you his swee...

Keep in mind that I didn't have a graphics card, or enough RAM, or a camera, and I don't really watch music videos, so I just improvised. Take it for what it is. Sinc...

    Honestly this is like every conversation we all have after several (or many) beers, but also he is so right about walking outside Oslo. Just don't do this drunk. Or in sandals ever under any circumstances. Why does anyone even have sandals? I am probably a little drunk right now. 😂

    He's right. I've been going for 3-4 hour hikes in the nearby woods and mountains for years now at least once almost weekly. Best thing I've done in that time.

    What I wouldn’t give to sit for 20 minutes with a slightly intoxicated Fenriz, just listening to him talk about a topic he’s passionate about. - That’s a bucket list item for sure. Edit: the Futurama reference is 🤌🏼 chefs kiss. I haven’t watched that show in 20 years, but immediately know what he was talking about. 😂

    God I wish in england we had good woods, ours are rubbish compared to the rest of the Kingdom, and pales in comparison to mainland europe and the rest of the world, what makes this worse is that the train tickets are fucking expensive to be able to go to the good places to treck, we need to start rewilding here!

    Even though I love pine woodland nature, The main problem I have with hiking are the wild animals and drunk hunters who aren’t careful

    • @Zaragil
      @Zaragil Před 2 lety

      Here in Croatia the wild animals aren't much of a problem (although wild boars seem to have multiplied recently) but hunters definitely are, if you have a pet. I don't mind them if they follow the rules, but almost every week I hear about reckless hunters killing someone's lost dog just for fun. Even if it's nowhere near the hunting-designated territory. Last month there was a tourist that traveled around the world with his dog, and guess what happened. And no one can touch them because they usually have good connections with the police or the ruling party. Until some day they shoot the wrong person's dog...

    Our IKEA fornitures and buildings are full of straight lines. In nature a straight line doesn't exist. Even a tree, the stem of a flower, a pine tree needle, the threads of a spider web... are not perfectly straight: everything in nature is a curved line. Fenriz is right: living constantly around straight edges is not good for the brain and soul.

    • @Zaragil
      @Zaragil Před 3 lety

      You got that right. The other day I was walking by the river and a random older guy asked me "Do you know what's the rarest thing in the world? A straight tree." And I immediately started talking about how walking in Nature is so relaxing because there's no straight lines. I'd almost bet some people couldn't walk properly without a flat surface beneath their feet. Ironically, the only IKEA item I own is a backpack. 😆

    I love this guy. He's a genius actually. I admire Varg for his outlook on many things (I don't admire his acts, just some of his philosophies), but this guy I think is a very underrated genius and has a connection to the past that we all seem to have lost. We all need to maintain a primal connection to our "roots" so to speak in order for our brains to stay healthy. Those who ignore our naturalistic, primal past are doomed to a life of depression and psychotic paranoia. A life of medical support. I would rather keep my brain happy in a natural way. Every race will have its own roots in the past that they must fall back on once in a while. Most northern people are going to be drawn to the forests and mountains.

To be honest in that moment you forget about life for awhile. That small moment has a huge impact. I know exactly what hes talking about.
