Here we lower my 2013 Audi Q5 B8 8R. It had OEM non-sport springs and we install JHMs lowering springs with OEM shocks. While in there I threw in a billet subframe brace for fun. The results are amazing aesthetically and performance wise. It also rides just as comfortable from before, so much that my wife didnt notice any decrease in comfort.

A 2.0T FSI GLI Mk5 oil pan! :D Also, good job PB Garage! But where's the peanut butter?
I’m going to guess you found Blake’s 2.7t build in that oil pan 🎉
Sounds like chunks of piston rings mixed with crank bearings
Just don't do it. These cars cave all kinds of bizarre issues. The mechatronic shift actuator fails routinely. Nobody wants to work on them, including MOST Mercedes dealerships. Parts are going to be getting hard to find as soon as Mercedes pulls the plug. They're NOT as safe as advertised because they lack proper crumple zones. You look like a dork driving one. People mess with you on the road. A lot of people in the forums are just nasty. Save yourself some grief and just say NO to Smart cars.
Parts in North America are definitely becoming more difficult to source. Nothing yet that’s limited me from keeping them going. Here in Canada anyway, they’re still super tough to beat in terms of dollar per km driven. Cheap to buy, cheap to fix if you can do the work yourself, cheap on gas. All the good TDIs are either complete rust buckets, have half a million km, or are insanely $$, and the only other cars that can touch the fuel economy are hybrids which are either super expensive to buy or have all kinds of issues. They’re definitely niche and like I say you need to be able to do at least some of the work yourself but yeah… Tough to beat $ per km.
@@PBGarage "and the only other cars that can touch the fuel economy are hybrids" Not true. the Smart car is rated at 32-mpg city and 39 highway. Many 4-cylinder sedans are getting 40 mpg on the highway, including the Prius, Nissan Altima and VW Jetta. They're safer, carry a LOT more, have cheaper parts, are more reliable, etc. There are many other cars which come close, and the tiny savings in fuel efficiency isn't worth the loss of cargo capacity, safety, etc. The only reasons to own a Smart are the "cute" factor" and ease of finding a parking spot. The Fortwo is a bad proposition for most. That's why it never caught on.
@Unit_104 my experience in real world economy doesn’t line up with those numbers.
@@PBGarage So, what are your numbers?
@Unit_104 05-06 smart diesel ~56mpgUS, 08-15 smart 1.0L gas ~43mpgUS, 16-17 smart 0.9L turbo gas ~48mpgUS. Small 4 cyl sedans and hatches the best I’ve ever managed was in the 33-35mpgUS range which is still good. You definitely give up a lot of car for that extra 5-8mpg. Smarts definitely aren’t for everyone that’s not what I’m saying. I prefer the small footprint for parking, I feel safer in it because it’s narrower and nimble, and has a lot less momentum. Brakes are unreal in emergency stops. You have to think of a smart car as more like a side by side motorcycle with a roof and heat and a radio. If you prefer small sedans and stuff cool but for people that the smart works for there’s nothing else like it.
Looks like you did a great job, but I'll have to watch your video a few times for it to sink in 😊
Nice thanks, also FFS please please please.... use jackstands, those scissor jacks are an accident waiting to happen, they're good in a pinch on one corner of the car but not on all 4 sides while you're working under the car.
I use quickjacks now. Those scissors were surprisingly stable though.
I did notice those in the video, do those work on the Smart?
They do, but you have to put them under the car facing side to side instead of front to back.
I need some. I'll be ordering soon hopefully. 😅
We are all sold out unfortunately
smart 451 doesnt have power steering?
As far as I know all but the base model cars have electrically assisted steering racks. The base model cars (pure) are unassisted. It only gives you the electric assist at low speeds but it is a very noticeable difference between Pure and Passion/Brabus etc
@@PBGarage got it, I just bought one and I have no idea which version it is hahaha is a 2013 tho ( not EV )
@DanCycles good chance if you have a clear plastic roof it’s got power steering, if it has a black roof outside and a white headliner inside, it doesn’t have power.
Were those fuses hard to out back together???
Easy, they all just clip back together. Takes a little finagling, but it only fits one way.
different psi is the size and the thickness of the rubber o-ring under the cap. Worn o ring will release the pressure earlier. Over filled coolant always will damage the o-ring within few days and it become harden unable to hold the pressure, the coolant will boil and burst out or cause leak

Thank you... Super helpful to me! Was putting this off because I thought it would be a chore. Fully replaced, in & out in a few minutes, literally! 👍
Glad to hear you sorted it out quickly, and that our video helped you get there!
sorry to cross post, i'm having a really hard time finding info on this. You guys did a b7 auto to 2,7t 01e. I'm doing a 2008 B7 2.0t auto to 2.7t 01e. Do you happen to know which transmission mounts i need to make this work? Thanks for any info!
Hey no worries, sorry for the delayed response. Just used some normal b6/b7 automatic transmission moints for the side mount.
What penetrating oil did you use?
I started with PB Blaster or WD40, and once it freed up I tried to feed in some gear oil using a short hose. If you can free it up with a penetrant you could also finish with something tackier like fluid film. The trick for me was to just keep hitting it once a week for a few weeks in the heat of summer to get it well and properly in there and so that it would stay freed up for a while.
@@PBGarage Cheers, fella!
which transmission mounts did you use in order to maintain the b7 2 side mounts? Can't find this info anywhere! Mines a 2008 b7 A4 2.0t auto to 2.7t 01e
Just using any automatic mount from a b6 and b7, one for either side.
I have a 2002 audi a4 3.0i quattro and it seems that I have a vacuum leak from under the intake actuator (pressure tested with smoke) it's not the side vacuum hoses, it literally come from under the middle of the intake manifold.. What could it be? I am suspecting intake manifold gaskets, but then why would the smoke come right from the middle... Any advice? Thank you in advance!
I got a voltage drop under acceleration but with the lights on it works. Maybe the low power side has gone.
If the voltage drops when the car is shifting, it could be an issue with the clutch actuator rather than the charging system.
@PBGarage, what do you say about this option: czcams.com/video/6TarHFX_vkA/video.htmlsi=190M6U6Q-gZUfZN1
So i have the same problem the fan only blows air on number 4 the other number doesn't work.So I suspect it's the same problem i need a blower fan
That sounds like a problem with the blower motor resistor, not the blower itself.
I bought the Bosch wipers last time and they are far better than what I had before. Well priced, too 🙂
I love Bosch
@@PBGarage 👍 🙂
What recommended clutch.?
We really like the LUK clutch kits.
Yeah. Good video! Same unreliable wiper lenght reported for my R56/R55 Mini. Also that car is really picky about the blades anyway. Wrong one's do not wipe properly even being right lenght. My guess is that the glass is so convex.
Is the process the same for the pre facelift model?
I'm saving this video ,gr8t job
Thank you!
What is the metal barb size/diameter if you dont mind me asking?
Great Video! Very good explanation about the options. Congrats.👏
Thank yoy!

Any update i want to lower mine they said it can affect the shock if you ise lowering spring thank you
It has been about 15,000km since the installation and not one concern. The OEM struts that have now about 165,000km havent blown either, and it remains as comfortable to drive as before.

how wide is that sub box in cm?
I have my b6 2.7 swapped just put k04s on it and got it started this week had it on k03s and I fell in love can’t wait for the k04s got a front mount on coilovers vaughtlands and have Alcon 6 pistons on it so excited
Sounds like a solid setup! I bought vogtland coilovers for my B6 Avant 1.8t (not installed yet), I’ve heard they ride great 👍🏻
@@PBGarage oh they most def do I rode on em with the k03s and with the brakes it changed the car completely
planning to do on Ea888 audi S1 2016 but it looks different a bit than mostly ) i’m still hanging here ….
Yeah the EA888 cars have a very different roller setup, not the cap follower like the EA113
Traditionally the motor shaft with the commutator (the bit you cleaned with the little wire brush) can be be removed completely. Then placed in a lathe and the ridges gently turned down, we are only talking about 0.2mm. The brushes can usually easily take up the extra space. From your video the blackness of the copper commutator is usually because of faulty or worn brushes that are arcing to the commutator rather than smoothing running round it.
I figure there’s probably other ways to tackle it but that’s as deep as I felt like going on it. Luckily replacements are still affordable.
Nice! Clear example, similar to my own. Now I know where to go next!! TY
Thanks for the feedback!
do you need to remove the rear quarter panel to replace one of the rear tail light bulbs ?
No, you should be able to open the little window in the trunk area and pull out the bulb holder from there to replace taillight bulbs.
@@PBGarage Thank you. I am in Australia and looking at buying a 2011 451 on the weekend. Your video was very helpful on what to look for. I was a mechanic in my younger days, but past full on stuff these days.
@ChrisBrown-ux8jn I wish we had rust free Aussie cars to buy here! That’s the big killer for us.
@@PBGarage The main problem in Australia, is the availability of parts. In theory we should be able to get therm from Mercedes dealers but in practice its not that easy. I am going to attempt to get the frame lowering bolts you talked about.
@ChrisBrown-ux8jn we are having similar issues here now, the Mercedes’ dealers aren’t really supporting them since 2018. You can still get parts but prices are going up and so are delivery times. I’m sure the parts will start drying up soon too.
Would you happen to know what would cause driver side turn signal bulb(Top Orange) and little light on driver side( next to door) to not stay on when I turn headlights on. They blink but won’t stay on, but both lights on passenger side turn signals stay on but won’t blink. This issue is driving me nuts. Any thoughts would be much appreciated. 🙏
I’m not certain but I think the turn signal relay may be a part of the hazard light switch assembly, could try swapping that out. I’d check wiring for obvious faults first and fuses. Then swap the hazard switch for a junkyard one. Last thing could be a fault in the SAM but that would be a pain to fix.
@@PBGarage So apparently the turn signal lights should not stay on at all times and the side that turns off is the side that the turn signal works. So I think it may be a relay issue and the passenger side is stuck in the "ON" position. At least I hope so. Thanks for your help, you are appreciated!
Isit important for the bolt for the coolant Lines to go back on ?
I did mine back up because I didn’t want the coolant lines rattling around and springing a leak. Might be ok without the bolt, might not, I don’t really know.
I just finished doing mine today luckily I didn’t Have to take half the engine apart as I had a few tools around me to get to the coolant 10m bolt but it did take a few hours to figure out How to get it out but I completed the job in 7 hours 🤦♂️
Glad you got it done!
Mine has a problem in that it is just plain heavy to steer, the angles of the dangles , are just leading to heavy steering. It needs some power assistance which the top models have on them.
Time to sell it and pick up a Passion
My 3.0 lifts up hard asf and takes off like a rocket I love the top end the torque and the hp it’s so powerful 💪🏽😂 but I’m not stock I’m just sitting at about 300 hp that’s it no speed limiter either so I can max out my dash 🤧
What mods?
When I first got my used SC, i changed the oil, and low and behold, the threads came out of the pan as well. I've gotten lucky so far as the drain plug catching, but I think a change of an oilpan is in the future. ty for vid.
If you don’t have to deal with the corrosion I had, it will be a much easier job.
Dang missed it by a few months. Hope you can get more
my mechanic is saying that 01e wont work??? cuz speed senors ??? is he bsing me?
01E is the factory 6 spd with a 2.7T and has the VSS. OA3 or 02X don’t have VSS but you can just tap into the speed signal from the ABS module.
@@PBGarage ok cool thank u bro, also i seen he dodnt have a manual subframe , did he just bolt up a crossbar to the auto sub to mount the trans
@BarrioHoncho the 01E out of B5S4 and C5A6 uses two side mounts so it bolts right up to B6/B7 auto subframe. The B6A4 01E has a different type of mount and uses B6/B7 manual subframe with a cast aluminum trans mount.
@@PBGarage you have a IG? so we can chat more on there
@BarrioHoncho @pbgaragelive
Can you show me where on the cams you put those cam locks exactly?
Google audi v6 3.0 cam lock and find the audizine thread that shows how it's I stalled
You could have at least tell us which size cup and plate you used so people can diy the tools needed.
Ye this might have been my issue I was hearing. Ticking noise and I was getting low oil pressure light coming on once in a while replaced sender since it was leaking out the connector so replace and no more light but I would get they beep once in a while and then 2 weeks later boom rod out the side of the block on the highway, so I’m going to check it out on the used engine thanks for the vid. What a stupid design
Yep truly a design flaw imo. Some don't even make it to 100kmiles like mine!
