Patrick Henry & The Civil War that Never Was I 2 Complicated 4 History I Podcast
Description:
Dr. Lynn Price Robbins and Isaac S. Loftus are joined by Dr. John A. Ragosta to discuss the transition of Patrick Henry from Revolutionary Firebrand to Federalist candidate. Did the hyperpartisanship of the 1790s fuel this apparent switch? And did it also prevent the newly created United States from plunging into a civil war?

Biden doesn't want to win that's why he's doing nothing good. He doesn't what a woman take his place. We love Kamala. But there are people that don't want a woman in office.
Wow! Never knew about this place until today, 6/20/24, Tariq Nasheed mentioned in one of his interview on CZcams!
Thank you for checking out the interview. It’s a fascinating place. Couldn’t recommend Dr. Nevius’ book enough
I herd of this too from him. He was on the Holding Court Podcast.
I can’t stop laughing! Never expected to tune in to 12 year old Ben Franklin and his apparent blood brother Jordan tonight! 😂🔥😂🔥😂
✊🏾🇺🇸As a gay black man who has served in the military , I can clearly say , It’s no longer about rights but recruitment and socialist ideology propaganda tool. I’m tired of being used as a pawn. My sexual identity does not define me. Nobody cares what hole I prefer nor do I care to share it..
lol Reddit = the library of Alexandria
Today I received my signed copy of the book. I am so happy to read through the stories, sending was really rather quick.
Again, Victoria you have shone your beautiful light so brightly to our world. LOVE all your work! Making #JonesCountyMS proud :)
Thank you for checking out the interview! We're huge fans of Victoria as well
It took many years and loved ones from me but 8 years of sobriety later i believe its behind me now.
Happy to hear that
Gin was my first drink, was also my last. I look in awe at those who consume in moderation
Congratulations on your sobriety - hoping for many years to come! Alcohol has always been and will always be a life ruining addition to some.
You need to look into what is going on with your audio. My laptop volume is maxxed, and the CZcams volume is maxxed, and it is quite hard to hear you. I'm at home with the window open, birds chirping, the occasional car...it isn't due to ambient noise around me causing problems, and it isn't a problem with any other video on CZcams that I've played today.
Thanks for the feedback. We’ll double check the audio
It’s playing okay for me
Paul Cooper is a hero of mine. As someone like myself who has been into history since my early teens, his podcasts are a revelation. There’s so much trash on YT regarding historical events, Paul’s approach joins the relatively few that take a serious and knowledgable approach while never for a moment being boring or overtly academic. Brilliant!
His work is a wonderful blend of informative and entertaining. Happy you were able to check out the interview! If you have ever have suggestions on other hosts or authors we should have as guests - our discord is open for everyone who joins our free Patreon tier. Would love to have you!
I drank some gin for the first time last year made me sick af😩
Gin life isn’t for everyone
@ 59:31 I have an ancestor James Rogers who participated in the First Seminole War with Andrew Jackson. Later he arrived to Texas became ranger fighting Comanche there. It fascinating you mention the Seminole migration west and South in Mexico. It just so happens James Rogers brother-in-law General Edward Burleson Sr, an uncle of mine, who was also a settler, had sons that participated in the Callahan filibustering expedition into Mexico in 1855, ostensibly to attack Indians but this was really a slave-catching expedition. Anyways there was running battle against the Seminoles that were living there in Mexico. The Texans were outnumbered so they torched the bordering town of Piedras Negras to extract themselves from defeat and to secure their crossing the Rio Grande. The Seminoles at this time were like this buffer that augmented Mexican forces against not only the Comanche threat but Texans as well. I thought that was neat. Hearing about their history in Florida but also putting context to the history of Texas and Mexico and my genealogy.
Very cool. Thank you for sharing your family history
@@primarysourcemedia en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wild_Cat_(Seminole)
Fun and as a native Floridian, interesting listen too! Worth the price of admission to to see his reaction to Lynn being vegan! Unlike your guest, I grew up in Florida in the 50’s and 60’s and with the changes I’ve seen, have no desire to ever return there. 😂. Let’s go have a Beyond Burger Lynn!
He is a man enamored by the Florida sunshine. I can’t relate but I appreciate his passion
@@primarysourcemedia He would have really loved Florida back in the day BD. (Before Disney) It was a different world. I drove from Mulberry to Orlando when I was a junior in high school to take a college entrance test. Alone. I’d hope no parent would allow their 16 year old to do such a thing today. A totally different world. The interview brought back memories of things I did learn in school way back then but as with most history taught in schools, a far cry from the whole story.
New México? Texas etc😮
Could you elaborate?
For all Dr. Cooper's talents, his voice is simply magnificent for the medium, fills me with envy! On a more serious note, I simply admire his work, great interview.
Totally agree. Thank you for watching!
I have my signed copy. Amazing work that has filled many hours of my life. The Aztec saga remains my favorite. Thank you, Paul Cooper.
Time for you guys to treat yourselves to the alternative history research by the Rising Tide Foundation, and Canadian Patriot Matt Ehret and his wife, Cynthia Chung. After enlightening myself to the influence of the British Empire on American and Canadian history ..... the class struggle in The Free State of Jones absolutely made sense to me. Richard Poe and Sean Stone are also doing incredible research on the "hidden hand" of British Imperialism throughout our American history; and the histories of France, Russia, Germany, etc. It has been the equivalent to having an epiphany .... for me.
Interesting. We’ll have to check it out
Oh God I'm sorry. I realize you meant their ages. 29 and 19. Not 1929 the year. I'm just jaded from hearing mistakes like that so often. My bad. Would love to read your book
Yeah, sorry if it was unclear.
1929??? More like 1729 please get the century right. TOO MANY HISTORICAL TALKS DO THIS OVER AND OVER
lol coming in hot 🔥
I like Abigail but would not have wanted to make her mad😂
Us neither!
One thing that most people have no understanding about is modern agriculture and the revolution in seed breeding that is adapting quickly to environmental changes.
You know I had to come watch this after watching Franklin! 😂. Great video! Thanks!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Quite enjoyable! Thank you!
Thanks for watching!
Why is this complicated? We have on the books STILL, but no longer enforced an 100 year old law that no foreign entity can own over 25% interest in a broadcast medium. The internet is the largest broadcast network on the planet. We have precedent. Kick the CCP out of our internet.
Congratulations Paul and Annie!
Paul Cooper brings history to life in a way I’ve not experienced before. He talks about people, not just the kings and elite, but always the real people who lived and worked within a civilization. His CZcams videos are Oscar worthy.
We’re huge fans of his. Was an absolute pleasure having the opportunity to speak to him for this interview.
The Lie Detector test determines THAT was a lie! You are NOT the Founding Father! 🤣
DANG.. he lived in New Jersey??
The dirty jerz
We’re back
I want to see whats behind a door and whats at the bottom of a hole. To know and understand the past is to then be able to understand the present and helps to imagine the future. Great interview. Brian Sewell and Michael Moor were the old guard of historians for me as a youngster now Paul and James Fox are the new guard for me now im much older.
Thank you for listening! It is exciting seeing what the next generation of historians is bringing to the table. What we love about Paul's work is that he is bringing poetry to these stories while keeping it grounded it in the sources. I hard thing to do
Paul Cooper helped me realize that human history is my obsession. In my career in history I will always remember Fall of Civilizations, it will forever be close to my heart. When it comes to telling the stories of the Ancients, Paul Cooper does it right. The artistic approach, and the dramatics of it, is something TV history docs wish they could do. Aztecs part One and Two is are perfect examples. I had to of watched and listened to them around 11 times. Each session I had goosebumps, felt the emotion, and lost myself in the events that occurred. Paul truly places us in the past and humanizes the topic of history, so that, by relating to those in the past, being thrown into their shoes, we can feel strong emotions and associate them to what happened. It really helps with retaining the information. I could say more or even write a whole essay about my love for Fall of Civs, but instead, I will say this to Paul. NEVER make the episodes shorter, I would say, you are doing God's work. ((sorry Mrs. Cooper))
Thank you for listening and for your thoughts! The picture he's able to paint with just audio is remarkable. Very moving without straying from the history. Speaking from personal experience, it's very hard to accomplish.
I’m very greatful for the work Paul did to ad images to the podcasts! I am unable to listen without being distracted if there are no images and I “eat” his podcasts!
I usually listen to the audio when it's released but the video versions absolutely make watching more dynamic!
Paul is right up there with sir Sir David Attenborough on being amongst the greatest voices and writers to ever narrate documentaries. I want Paul and his epic voice to narrate my eulogy when I shuffle off this mortal coil. It could be one of the episodes of his podcast. He could talk about the decline and fall of S.William. C. He would narrate how it might have felt when my world fell apart and my marriage of over two decades was reduced into smoldering heaps of soot and ash. About how even after the Pyrrhic victory of being awarded alimony, I was still left forlorn, dazed and squatting in the desolate ruins of my shattered dreams. Then he could end the episode with the amazing voice actress who read the poem “Carthage” at the end of episode 17, reading a poem about how it felt when my heart imploded and I knew my world had come to an end. The poem would start with “There once was and old, broken man from Nantucket....”
This is great. Thank you so much! I ordered my book from the UK I can’t wait until July. I’ve watched and listened to every episode multiple times. Paul’s podcast is a treasure, there are so many lessons to learn from his research.
We’re huge fans of his podcast as well. Glad you enjoyed the interview. Was great to get to know the man behind it all
great episode, and good to see two of my good friends together
Very enjoyable
Thanks for watching!
There were documents discovered in the 20th century that showed Peggy played a central role.
Ditto Rush Limbaugh Ditto
Not sure what Rush has to do with it?
I've barely started and Paul immediatly starts one of those well placed tangents, as he often does in his podcast. In this case on the Magnolia. Paul is really great at telling a story, partically because he introduces us well to the story and the setting it is placed in. Which often is not just a story of human history, but also life and geologic history. Even after introducing the story, he will often refer back to it. Truly making it a part of the story and not just the setting.
I’m not joking. This is spot on. it was intimidating even in the conversation. It took me a while to settle into it - isaac
Cat is really captivated
Love a good pod cat
Great interview.

I loved this! I did a road trip to NS in 1999 and found the way the province was set up was fascinating and I thought the divisions of the different European countries within NS was result of natural settlements by various groups to the “new world“. Parts of the province were either English or Scottish or German or French or Irish as I recall. Many residents still had the sound of their country of origin, many decades later. It’s been my favorite Canadian province and I had planned to return in 2020 and you know how that went. Someday maybe… with a trip to PEI thrown in for fun. Thanks very much for tuning in. Really appreciate your comments. We'll be talking about PEI in future episodes!
@@Jimambuske oh good!
I don't think you know that she was not spying. After all, her letters have been destroyed and if they were innocent they would have hung onto them.
it's a fair question but burning letters was a pretty common practice at the time
@@primarysourcemedia But only for a specific time range?
that's actually a great question! I can double check with Lynn and check back with an answer! If you've got any more historical questions, we've got a channel for random history questions on our discord which is available to those who join the free tier of our patreon at patreon.com/primarysourcemedia
@@primarysourcemedia Thanks. Knowing if letters were kept before she met Arnold might be helpful and if the big gap is only during their participation in spying.
Cool.
Thanks for watching! We’ve actually migrated this series to its own channel if you’d like to watch more
Wonderful interview. Please add any book by my Uncle John Joseph Mathews, historian. Many books on Osage History.
We will definitely have to check out his books! Thank you for the recommendation.
Hey Maria! So cool that he's your uncle. I actually purchased a copy of Sundown while I was prepping for this interview! I haven't gotten a chance to read it yet but I'm very much looking forward to it
