How To Replace A 54in Zero Turn Deck Idler Pulley
In this video I have a Craftsman Zero Turn lawn mower model 247.25061 ZTL8000 and I find a strange piece of metal when I blow the mower deck off. I always blow the mower deck off after I cut the grass and that is when the metal ring showed up. I discover after looking over the mower deck that it is part of a idler pulley. I have replaced idler pulleys before when the bearings go bad but I have never had a metal idler pulley disenigrate before. Below is the part number for the correct idler pulley and deck drive belt.

    I'm having that issue "fixed" right now,the guy is using the ground contact pressure treated lumber .... now I'm wondering why,and why is it his best suggestion....should I fire the guy like I'm feeling..

    • @diyhomefront1695
      @diyhomefront1695 Před 3 hodinami

      If you want to fire him that will have to be your decision. Here is some life experience I have gained. I fenced in my 3-acker yard and to save cost I used landscaper timbers for the main runs and 4x4 and 6x6 post at the corners. LANDSCAPE timbers, they were about half of the cost of the 4x4 post, and the landscape timbers are for landscaping right (ground contact). So long story short I have replaced those landscape timbers twice and have never had to replace the 4x4 and 6x6 post. I never knew (until about 5 years ago) that pressure treated wood was not ground contract wood. There are three classes untreated, treated, and ground contact. Ground contact will last a loooong time. More expensive yes, last forever yes. So, if you live in a wet area with lots of rain and humidity the best protection would be ground contact. Do not know if any of this helps but there it is do what you will.

    Well, I took mine apart, and it seemed as if the solenoid was not opening to release propane. So I removed the little plunger inside the solenoid. I cleaned my thermostat probe, tested the igniter, which was glowing red. When I turn the unit on, I can feel when the glow plug heats up , and this is when I turn on the propane. It will not light. But If I hold a flame in front of the nozzle, it will burn untill i let my thumb off the lighter. Could it be that my regulator is allowing too much propane through?

    • @diyhomefront1695
      @diyhomefront1695 Před 4 dny

      Sure could, I was told to keep the propane tank valve less than halfway open by one of the commenters. I am on my third tank of gas and each time I count the revolutions need to completely open the valve and close it back up three turns.

    • @pallie1000
      @pallie1000 Před 2 dny

      It makes sense , because i temporarily hooked an adjustable acetylene regulator to the unit , so I could put a little more gas to it . and it would not light that either. Thanks for the reply ! I guess I’ll try a new regulator before I throw it in the trash. Or I could part it out on eBay lol.

    I understand perfectly the extra washer give it a wide surface area via the back side of the fork to keep the bearing and shaft from playing which is probably the real cause of the bearing wear down with the play it had before the bearing would constantly be at tension and wear them down much faster. That was a good move. I am BFL small engine repair located in Texas I have not had a zero turn brought to me with these bushing issues but it's nice to know if I did I immediately recommend a sealed bearing kit rather than the unsealed factory ball bearing bull crap. It's discouraging to see unsealed bearings in such a high dollar unit I remember when I was a kid you got a high dollar bicycle it had sealed bearings in the top tube for forks, crank, wheel hubs etc🤦 but a high dollar unit like this (I assume it's a toro timecutter) and has ball bearings in the hub from the factory. That's BS 😬

      If I understand it right the mower blades have a little bend at the end of the blades. That helps the blades lift the grass, cut the grass and get it out of the mower deck. The vortex baffle helps keep the shape of the mower deck correct to help with that (cut and remove the grass).

This will move the motor to the recirculating position. Once movement is complete turn power off. Line the motor with splines, and screw holes. It may be necessary to “wiggle” the motor to get screw mounting holes to line up. Good luck.

      I am not a true professional but this what I do. If I was building something that would be out of the weather and I was going to maybe polyurethan it, I would do just what you said. Put on stain and then wipe it off. That is because the majority of the purpose of the stain would be to color the wood and a secondary byproduct would be to provide the project with some king of protection. If I am doing a project that I know is going to be outside, the first thing is to protect it from the weather and rain. So outdoor stains/sealers are weather coating and meant to seal and protect the wood. I always use a brush to work the stain/sealer into the wood. I also really work it into the grain of the wood and leave it that way. The more stain/sealer left on the surface the longer it will repel water and hopefully last before I have to do it again. Sorry for such a long answer but there it is, that is what I do and why I do it.

    • @diyhomefront1695

      Sometimes it is easier to eliminate those hard-to-get spots or paint runs, but I do not know if it makes the table last longer. I would paint it after it was together so I can paint over all of the screws or bolts that keep it together.

    Great how to video for those who aren't familiar with doing this project! Couple of things.... be careful using the jack on the transmission spacer bar.... you don't want to bend that. Also, make sure the oil you use is suitable for hydrostatic transmissions. And lastly.... replace that transmission drive belt! It's about to go at any time! 🤪

      Wow those are some really kind words. Thanks very much. I just wanted to make videos of my life and what I do around the house hoping I could help others. Before you disassemble your m-magnet try it with the gas turned down from all the way open or on to half or less open. I do not know for sure, but I have a filling in my gut that was my problem. Good Luck fixing yours, they are not cheap but when m-magnet works it does help with getting rid of the mosquitoes.

    A Word of caution regarding the burner/filter apparature! In the film, the hole thing easily slips out when the screw is removed. In my unit, it would not come loose so I twisted it with a spanner. It kinda snapped and I kept twisting back and forth. Big mistake! For my model, you have to take the manifold apart in order to service the filter. Now I have an aluminium sleeve stuck halfway so that it covers the filter hex nut. I might have busted the hole thing😢. When you look close on the film you see that it's smooth on the sides where the screw is. On mine, there are some casting dots on both sides that makes pressure on the mentioned aluminium sleeve.

    One thing to remember is that this isn't ONLY for egg smell. It's main function is to act as a super anode to prevent corrosion. That way your water heater last 20+ years instead of 8, with no maintenance.

    • @diyhomefront1695
      @diyhomefront1695 Před měsícem

      Yea, but if you have ever had a bad case of sulfur water you would rather replace the water heater every ten years if it meant getting rid of that smell.

    I’m currently INVESTIGATED in fixing mine. Still won’t work.. new tank, cycled many times. I hired glows cherry red, tested thermistor Ohms..works, disassembled the combustion chamber and cleaned, Solenoid has been disassembled and cleaned. Clicks on when it’s supposed to. Changed o-ring on the nozzle… EVERYTHING! My “eraser head”(filter) is still gold. But my last thing to try is to clean that by soaking it over night in some carburetor cleaner. After that….i guess it’s trash!
