Excellent work, but it comes with expenses I think 😊
I make 600 bales a year by myself.you cannot find people for small bales plus on a larger scale is easier to feed a big bale to 15 cows or 20 small ones.
Thomas, you're such an inspiration. Great improvements!
Thanks Lynn
Thomas, you are an improvement machine that is so cool. I can’t imagine the joy you feel from all those improvements.
Thanks Paul
Man, long time no see. Good to hear from you.
Damn… just do it when there a day or 2 old…. One person can handle with no contraptions… just hold em upside down slice and pull. 🤦🏼♂️…. Done for years and they do fine and it’s a 20 second job. One person. They also dont remember you doing it that soon and are more friendly to you as they grow.
How about you make a video and share it if it’s so easy.
Your dedication to your farm and the well-being of your chickens is truly inspiring!
do you have a diagram of this or a close-up picture looking down so I can re-create
Shoot me an email at farmingoutsidethebox@gmail.com
That’s pretty cool. Taking nva and turning it into va!! Thanks for posting Thomas.
Opportunity Exploration. Nice!
Interesting.
Thank you so much.
I like the concept. Looks like you used a shut off valve for a camper sewer system. I like that. The only thing to me is that it's a little small. I'm thinking that a 55gal drum would be bigger.
That’s exactly what it was. So far the size has worked good for large horse grains and smaller grain like chicken feed. Thanks for watching and commenting.
Do you have a plans on how to make this awesome stand?
I do t have plans but shoot me an email at farmingoutsidethe box@gmail.com I can send you a video with the dimensions.
Thank you . Sending an email now .
Sorry it took me a while. Here are the dimensions Piglet Castration Stand Dimensions czcams.com/video/rGsIq89bkEU/video.html
Didn’t you have any bailing twine left over from hay? That would have been re-purposing. Also, I have chickens and accumulate the nylon 40-50 pound feed bags. What have you found useful to do with them? I turn them inside out and use them to store and carry ratchet straps. They are sturdy, mostly shed water, but if they sit in a puddle and the contents get wet, then just put them in the sun for a while and everything will dry. Also do some weeding and yard debris collection / disposal and some roadside clean up since they are small but stronger than paper or most plastics.
I am buying that you understand the 8 wastes...... 😉
Thanks Rusty
There's no such thing as wasted hay. Any hay that doesn't get eaten is then fertilizer.
I don’t disagree that it gets broken down and absorbed back I to the soil but that not the original intent and that’s a very expensive way to develop fertilizer.
Well done, Thomas!
The 8 wastes story revolving around negative thoughts is brilliant. I've never thought of applying the 8 wastes this way. Oustanding video and examples.
Hey Thomas! I’ve seen eggs like this, and heard that it happens when the hens aren’t getting enough calcium in their diet.
Thanks for watching and commenting. I have read the same thing. The strange thing is that it only happens very rarely and only one chicken does it. You would think that if it was a lack of a mineral the entire flock would do it. Very strange. It’s definitely wild.
I love your improvements. I just became a supervisor in materials logistics at Tropicana. I am going back through CZcams and re-learning lean manufacturing so I can find ways to improve our logistics. It’s an exciting time where I can put what I know about lean manufacturing and I can learn more from CZcams and put them into action.
That’s awesome. Congrats on the new job. I think it’s awesome to find improvements. A good resource for lean videos is paulakers.net and then go to the video tab. There are thousands of them. I’m really excited for you. Good luck
Love this Thomas 👏👏👏
Add either a heavy hitch, bxpanded, or everything attachments tooth bar to the bucket and it will make a world of difference digging in dirt.
Great system and awesome efficient video! I'll be using this for my chicks
That’s awesome, I’ll be making a jig like that in a few days. Thank you for the incredible tip 👊🏼🙌🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
Congratulations Tom!
Thanks
This is great! I have hooked up implements numerous times and it’s a royal pain, especially if you are doing it by yourself. Might look into a quick hitch and a way to have them at the right height to hook up. A “kickstand” of sorts to raise certain implements to keep them stored at a height to help with hook up would help also. These are things I wish I had but I did not own the equipment so I was not in a position to make improvements.
Thanks. I’m definitely going to keep working on it.
@@theleanfarmer6212 I have no doubt that you will make improvements over the years on hooking up and taking off the implements. I can’t wait to see your improvements!
How is your wall holding together?
Holding together great.
Looks great! Would it be possible to drill holes in the roof that allows you to place the bore scope between each frame and use something that allows you to plug the holes and also remove the plugs as needed?
Maybe. Not sure if it would leak or not. But maybe you mean on the side at the top. That might could work. I’m going to make something I can attach it to and slide it under the opening then I will have a known orientation and have a better idea what I’m looking at.
Waste of motion is underated
that is adorable. So clever ! Thanks for sharing
I was talking with a friend the other day and they was telling me that it’s due to the lack of fertilizer sprayed last year. Since fertilizer was expensive to spray, farmers sprayed less or none. Since they sprayed less, the protein in the grain dropped. Since this dropped, the feed is causing chickens to lay less eggs or no eggs at all. Hence why, organic feed is causing chickens to lay eggs. Higher protein content than current feed in the stores. I’m not saying this solves the mystery, but I found it interesting and makes sense to me.
That is definitely a probable theory.
Well done! I love the examples you use!
I have around 100 chickens here in the UK, and have just experienced the same issue, changed the feed and now lots of eggs again!! Someone is messing around with somthing they shouldn't be, also stores here have a egg buying limit! Crazy world
We use Kalmbach feed and have not had a decrease in eggs.
Awesome.
Just an FYI Bluecote is not recommended for any animal you intend to eat. We use straight Iodine.
The castration stand is an awesome idea! Thanks for sharing. I thought i saw where you cut them doing one horizontal cut, instead of 2 vertical cuts. Is this so? I am totally just asking for knowledge. I was afraid going across the vertical line in the sack might take it longer to heal. Thanks for any and all info you can give :)
I do one cut horizontal. I have done vertical but prefer horizontal. I think I have done a couple dozen and never had an issue. I hope that helps. I have another video on another channel that shows you in detail how to do it. If your interested I can share that.
Electric fences and dogs are mans best friend around the farm!
This coop is lovely but won't keep half the chickens you've got.
Thanks, but so far it has done great. Our chickens free range during the day so they get lots of space. :)
You may find the hoopla app helpful as well!
Awesome. I will check it out.
Your wife sure is smart! Awesome improvements Sorry about Chevy 💜
She is real pretty too.
You would really love the video series by Grant Dryden called farming God's way. One of his principles of management is minimum wastage.
Awesome idea "square foot gardening."
👍 👍👍👍👍😲😲😲😲😲😹😹 😹
I've missed your videos.
You are completely clueless.
There is value added and non value added time in every process. 95% of all processes consist of non value added time. Non value added time can be broken down into 8 agreed upon wastes. Every process has those wastes in it. Whether you brushing your teeth, going to the doctor or feeding hogs. I just pointed out the 8 wastes of the round bale process.
Great ida!!!!
Thomas you’re awesome great video
