Braxton Haugen is an American filmmaker, writer, artist, and CZcamsr. He was born in Springfield, Oregon, in 2000 and began filmmaking early in life. He attended the University of Oregon to study journalism but left after a year when they were not teaching what he wanted to learn. His two volumes of short films, The Home Movies, produced as a teenager, were official selections at Long Story Short International Film Festival, Short to the Point and Bend Film, where he received the Future Filmmaker award. In 2022 Haugen moved to Los Angeles, where he collaborated with Van Neistat on The Spirited Man. His first collection of stories, From Los Angeles With Love, was published on TikTok and was followed by the anthology STUDIES_ in early 2023, released on CZcams. He is currently based in London and is developing a new film series.

I was going to make a whole video, dragging Van for not taking on an apprentice, despite clearly having benefited from being apprenticed himself. I then watched this video, and realized there was no need. All was right in the universe, an apprentice is being trained, everything remains in balance.

Coming from a quick mention of your name on a Rich Roll podcast w/ Van. This single video just inspired me in many ways. I was mesmerized the whole runtime. Thank you. i just found out you existed yesterday and your movies are beyond inspiring. thank you for your generosity with sharing your personal stories, and bravo the craft that has gone into these. also being inspired by the greats like the neistat's, the beatles etc. makes me feel like i connect with you. i wish you good luck with your future projects, know that from now on a 19 year old dutch filmmaker in the works is going to watch them from release.

Neistat brothers definitely influenced this kid
He even got to apprentice with Van and worked on a few videos with him, and mentioned how even though he was enormously influenced by them, it was time to close that chapter and start a new one.
Damn I miss the uo, was there 2014-2017, best time ever. Academics were top, people and Eugene just love for that place.

"The anxiety of influence" is such a powerful way to explain the tension that exists when trying to find your own creative voice. Thank you for that. Also, this video felt very reminiscent of Michael Aranda's vlogs in the 2010s. Not so much in style, but in story. He similarly was at a place of figuring himself out as an individual creator while producing for others. Not sure if that's helpful at all, but just an observation. Keep it up!
