Alaska Cruise Day 4 (Skagway)
On Day 4 of our Alaskan cruise, we explored Skagway. We visited the Moore Homestead, walked to the Gold Rush Cemetery, hiked up to the Lower Reid Falls, took the train to the White Pass Summit, and had a drink at the famous Red Onion Saloon. After seeing the breathtaking scenery sailing away from Skagway, Meg said "This is the dream that we never knew we had".

Alaska Cruise Day 3 (Juneau Whale Watching)

On Day 3 of our Alaskan cruise, we went whale watching in Juneau with Alaska Tales. We saw so many humpback whales! At first we saw Sasha and her calf Tango (7 month old boy), then we saw flame (22 year old female). After that, we saw a group of 8 adult humpback whales actively hunting together and bubble net feeding! Juneau was beautiful! We sailed away and watching the sun set in between the ...

    • @scubamax
      @scubamax Před 3 měsíci

      Personally, I preferred Roatan over Utila, but it was fun to check out both islands. I found the diving in Roatan better, and the vibe was more for me. We chose to dive with Sun Divers in West End, Roatan and found that dive shop to be very friendly, accommodating, and professional. We saw lots of spotted eagle rays and turtles, and our guide even found us a seahorse. We also dove the Aguila shipwreck which was cool, and saw squids and octopuses on a night dive. In Utila, we dove with UDC and found the staff less professional. The dives were rushed, we were surrounded by new divers, and the reefs weren't as healthy. Utila seems to be more for younger backpackers that want to party, which was not what we were looking for. The captain also chased down dolphins for people to swim with, which did not sit well with me. Both islands offer different things, just depends what type of vacation you are looking for.

    This is a great video. Thanks so much. Especially identifying the fish. Wondering: 1. was there a current or surge? 2. Your depth? 3. If this was a 2 tank dive, did you have a break between dives, and for how long? 4. Did you like Captain Hooks as a dive operator? 5. Did you have/need a guide? Hope you don't mind the questions. Thank you.

    • @scubamax
      @scubamax Před 3 měsíci

      Thank you! Glad you enjoyed the video. I don't recall any current or surge on this specific dive, there usually isn't much current on shallow reef dives in the Florida Keys. I also don't recall the exact depth, but probably around 30 ft. Most reef dives in the Keys are quite shallow (less than 40 ft). The norm on a boat charter is 2 tank dives and yes, we had about a 1 hour interval in between dives. Captain Hooks is a good dive operator. They have many shops and lots of employees, so obviously your experience will differ based on the staff you get, but overall, I've never had a bad experience with them. A guide is not necessary, but they can point out fun critters and ensure that you don't get lost. Hope this helps!

      Depends where you are on the island. In Victoria, there is the Ogden Point breakwater. In Nanaimo there are some awesome boat dives including 3 shipwrecks (Rivtow, Saskatchewan, and Cape Breton), Snake Island wall, and Clark Rock. In Nanoose, there is Madrona (big and small wall), Oak Leaf, Wallbeach, Tyee, and Dolphin. In Port Alberni, there is the migrant shipwreck at China Creek and a wall. And of course, there is some excellent boat diving in Barkley Sound through Rendezvous Dive Adventures, Campbell River through Abyssal Diving Charters, and a few companies up north island. As for dive shops in Nanaimo, there is Nanaimo Dive Outfitters, Sink or Swim, and Sundown Diving.
