All of my cameras are 'old' (nothing newer than 2016) but loving the experience and images out of all of them in their individual ways. Looking forward to exploring any new features over the mark 3. I don’t think enough people are talking about the differences between all electronic in camera processing of the images vs having a mirror vs film. They’re all different and they’re all great but I do think there are still positives for using DSLR’s over mirrorless and I think there are advantages of using mirrorless over DSLR’s but it just depends on the tool you need, what you prefer, and if people really care about the differences between each.

    My perspective emphasizes the importance of the photographer's skills over the technical specifications of the camera, highlighting that true artistry and professionalism lie in the mastery of the craft rather than the equipment used. I'm tired of reading comments about whether a camera is professional or not. Whether it has a lot of pixels, Wi-Fi, AI to take pictures without the user having to think, or video capabilities. Many iconic photographs were taken with cameras that some would call toys. The fact is, if a camera was professional 20 years ago, it is still a professional camera today. It doesn't take worse pictures than it did 20 years ago. Can any one explain why analog cameras are making a comeback today and why many internationally recognized professionals are using them again? As far as I know, analog cameras don't have megapixels, Wi-Fi, USB, or video. Yet, many are returning to film photography, and many never stopped using analog cameras, such as Andreas Gursky. A professional photographer has knowledge of photography. They master the basic concepts of composition, know their camera, and can experiment with it. So the discussion about whether one camera is more professional than another is more a discussion about who has more talent using the camera they have at their disposal. Harry Casimor deRham once wrote: "remember the ironic fact that the perfection which can be drawn from the within the depths of the human being can never be found in a machine."

    Hi! I'm thinking of buying my first (higher-grade) lens, wanting it to be a 70-200 f2.8 as this suits my style of photography most (horse/equine photography). Within my budget I've brought it down to the following two lenses: the tamron 70-200 f2.8 G2 and the canon EF 70-200 f2.8 II (mark 2). The price difference (used) is about 100€ (canon being more expensive in my country), so it's quite close to each other. But I don't know which lens is the better one...I know the canon is 7 years older, but it does seem to hold up quite nicely. And from the tamron G2 I see extremely positive reviews coming by. But how do these lenses compare? Which lens is (objectively) the better lens when it comes to image quality, sharpness, stabilisation, etc?

    Hi! I have a canon r8 and am currently looking for an affordable lens in the focal range of 24-70 or 24-105. I'm willing to buy used and everything under ~800€ is okay. Which lens would you recommend? I already have an ef-rf adapter, so the ef mount is definitely a possibility. I mainly want a really nice and sharp lens, preferably with a fixed aperture of 2.8 (or 4). But there is 20 years of lenses to work through and I kinda lost track of which one is still good to todays standard, yet affordable.

    I have this exact issue, I did everything exactly how you did it, I went through canon to see a price for a repair and the price was $220 and the lens I have the issue with is only like $130 so it doesn't seem right if I'm paying twice what the camera Lens costs for the repair when I can just buy a new lens with that money. But I could get an even better lens for that much.

    • @ericsunphotography
      @ericsunphotography Před 3 měsíci

      That…makes no sense at all that the repair costs more than the lens itself! What lens is it? I would probably buy a new one and consider the old lens “totaled” if you’re looking for an upgrade. I do wish Canon would provide some official troubleshooting steps or things that we could do on our own.

    I have a question for you Eric. I have a 5d MKiii and love the camera, have had it for 10 years. I would like more MPs, and would like another 10 year camera. the Canon R scares me a bit because all my lenses need to be firmware upgraded, plus I would need an adapter to run, them, there are so many cons. So i'm considering the 5D MKiv. Despite its age, do you think it would be a good buy to upgrade?

    • @ericsunphotography
      @ericsunphotography Před 8 měsíci

      Thanks for asking! I’m happy to help however I can! If you want to stick with DSLR’s then for sure. I’d recommend the 5DMIV any day to anyone who mainly shoots photos. The video capabilities isn’t bad (compared to the new cameras coming out, it’ll do what it needs for sure but it isn’t really anything worth mentioning now since what the 5DMIV has seems like a base for all new cameras coming out). You’ll definitely benefit from the higher MP sensor. I know that a few canon lenses need firmware updates for RF use so that will depend on the lenses you have. I haven’t updated my EF lenses firmwares and they’re pretty great. I do have a mount that I use but I still use my 5DIV quite often. At a quick glance, I saw some for a little less than $1300 online used. I’d always recommend renting first to see how you like it if you’re able to before paying all that money for one but short answer is, yes. I love mine still and for what I shoot, it’s a great one to have! But I will also say that depending on your needs, looking into mirrorless cameras and knowing your options isn’t a bad thing either. You’ll just have to pay a little more for new memory cards and other accessories if you do get a mirrorless camera. Hope that helps!

    • @ericsunphotography

      Hey! Thanks for your question. So there isn’t an electronic shutter mode because it’s still a DSLR and has a mirror inside that flips but you can turn on a silent shutter modes. There’s some options to choose from depending on what you prefer but you can still hear the shutter when you take photo. I turn it on sometimes and it’s a big difference depending on the space that I’m shooting. Hope this helps! You can go to the camera menu, the red section to page 6 and you’ll see “Silent LV shoot.”

    • @ericsunphotography
      @ericsunphotography Před 8 měsíci

      @mamumonkan I’m not too familiar with Pentax since all the bodies I use/used are Canon ones but Canon announced, before they started releasing all their mirrorless cameras said that they’re not really supporting their DSLR’s anymore. I could be wrong but in that announcement it included firmware updates. Which is unfortunate but that’s why I don’t think Canon will have an “electronic shutter” silent mode for the 5DMIV. There are some cameras that are capable of both mechanical and electronic but the MIV, to my knowledge doesn’t have that ability where the shutter is as silent as an electronic shutter.

    I got the same issue with brand new R6M2 with Sigma 20mm lens. Swapped the lens to Sigma 14mm and same issue. :/ Never had these issues before with 5DM4 and 2 lenses having issues at the same time, suspicious. Did it happen, this issue was to do with the camera body itself or the lens adapter?

      I actually got this issue on my 5DMIV but it was a fault of the lens. I’ve actually never run into this issue with any of my sigma lenses. It is suspicious that 2 lenses are having that issue. It’s making me think that it might be the lens adapter or the camera lens connecting points that might be causing the issue. Are the lenses you used primes?

    All this is great if you have All Canon lenses, I have the same problem with my Sigma 150-600 brought this brand new, only used about half a dozen times ,tried cleaning lens and camera (550d) with no luck. Please help.

      Sorry to hear that you’re having this issue! I know you bought the sigma lens new but how old is the sigma lens and what camera body are you using? I read online (after some super quick research) that some sigma lenses need an updated chip but that’s was if you were using a newer canon body where there’s a communication issue between the lens and the newer body.

    Exactly the same with my 24-70mm. When you zoom in you get the error message. So basically your fix was sending it to Canon so they can pull your pants down and charge you 400 dollars for the lens they sold you for 1200 dollars. What a bunch of tossers. This is my second lens that has done it. The latest one lastest just 4 months. It was second hand but I'd expect more than 4 months. I'm pretty dissapointed with this tbh. I'd be even more dissapointed with this if it was a high end EF lens like this one. Wonder if Nikon cameras have this problem.

      Yea, sending it to canon was the only solution that I could find and didn’t find too many resources about this error message so I wanted to make this video. I definitely agree with you especially since you had to get your lens fixed just 4 months after buying it! I haven’t heard any other grand have this issue but then again, I’ve only really used canon so I’ve never had the need to research outside of canon errors and lenses.

      @@ericsunphotographyReading all the responses, I wonder if there is a defect with that lense. It costs roughly $1500.00, so you would expect it to be durable and at least last a year. Thanks for your help. I've tried everything else, so will probably send mine in too.

      @anandastone4307 👎👎 for the fact you’re having this problem so soon! I responded to your other comment but if your lens is still that new, I would check my warranty and register my lens on Canon’s website if you have an account set up and see if this would qualify for the warranty to get your lens repaired. When I made this video, I’ve had this lens for definitely longer than 2 years on a ton of shoots.

      @@anandastone4307 this isn't just with the 24-70. I started getting this with my 24-105 and some of the comments above show it on other (non-Canon) lenses.
