    I watched the pro qual live and yes it was kinda sus lmao, I had this feeling of "Ye I'm a lil bit behind so ima try some things" into "oh shit it was overplay". But although you lost pretty hard, it wasnt feeling like you were bad at the game, but more like you wanted to prove something. I think you have really good chance to go throught next year, because you have a good style and you're still able to progress. Unlike the other player you had game with, you still lack some maturity, and so your level might skyrocket again. Don't be too much concerned about results, just play & enjoy, results will come eventually

    44:44 how will white catch the stones if black jumps on 14 line? If you "break the bamboo" i will just connect and gain liberty no?

      In that case doesn't need to kill black outside but attach at b16 connects back and black can't counterattack anything

    The way F17 stone aji was used in the game is amazing. For a lot of kyu players this is just a dead stone and there is not much you can do to use it anyhow. E17 nobi looks naive and reminds me early beginners who don't know what is alive and what is not :)

    • @telegraphgo

      that would be possible, but probably killing the bottom right pretty solidly is a little more valuable than killing the right side loosely- if you kill the right side you don't get to attack it later :D

    Appreciate the great review! I followed your progress during the pro quals & understand it must have been a tough experience, but on the bright side it's certainly a great learning opportunity as well. Getting 9D online shouldn't necessarily be enough to go pro in the US otherwise our pros would still be too weak relative to other countries. It's nice to know our US pros are successfully pushing deeper into the depths of go mastery beyond basic Fox 9D. No need to be discouraged. It'll be all the more satisfying to make progress and do better in future attempts. In the mean time, really appreciate your channel and following a journey of learning go at a deeper level with you.

      white is not gonna die that easily, not before white gets to bully the outside shapes very very hard. white won't just fix your weaknesses for you but still try to combine them together and black should not expect to suddenly make a better shape for his own power without trying for it; unless white messes up

    with your knowledge of the ai moves, it you went back in time 30 years, do you think you would be able to beat pro go players? By this I mean, how much has go-ai elevated the understanding of the game?

    • @Arcticp75
      @Arcticp75 Před měsícem

      Maybe you could get a theoretical 1-2 point lead by playing AI approved fuseki, but pros even hundreds of years ago still had incredible middle game reading, positional judgement and endgame abilities.

    • @telegraphgo
      @telegraphgo Před měsícem

      I could share one or two commonly understood AI judgements, but I think I was pretty clear that I will never be as good as 1992 Rui Naiwei no matter how hard I study for the rest of my life. Learning early is a much greater advantage than having an answer key.

    • @Xalyn937
      @Xalyn937 Před měsícem

    You cannot compare players from different generations, especially generations before and after break-through of AI. If you have to then you should compare players' relative strength to other players of their generation. In this case Rui is undoubtedly the better of the two because no women player could beat Rui in her prime time, not even close.
