I modded the Weilong v10 into an Aolong WRM
Probably the most disrespectful video on my channel. I don't know if the unofficially named 'Aolong WRM' is actually better than a stock Weilong v10.* It's mostly done for the bragging rights of "I have a modern Aolong", and not so much for actually making a good cube.

* It's most probably worse and I believe the designers have real reasons to trim off the second anchor, which may include cube weight and corner cutting. I don't think trimming the anchor off the corners does much damage to stability. In fact, the anchor isn't completely gone. The edges still have it, only the corners don't.

    This is such a funny video. Also I love the Ao series cubes so much too, despite only having tried the AoSu. I have heard from cubers that are more ancient than me about how legendary the AoLong is, the current AoSu is still one of the best 4x4s and my current backup, and I've seen a resurgence of the AoFu and AoShi for some reason but that might just be me.

    • @laiscube
      @laiscube Před 3 dny

      Aofu and Aoshi WRM have been the best cubes for at least 2 years now, although I think the Meilong 7 v2M challenges the Aofu to the position. (It's not as good out of the box, but the max potential of a broken-in and properly set up Meilong is possibly equal or better than an Aofu, due to the cube being lighter, faster and slightly smaller, but not having the stability issues of the Meilong 6)

      With the thousands of Moyu 3x3 releases out there I wouldn't actually hope for another one to come out so soon. But the Weilong v10 is already an Aolong successor in my book. It has the Aolong mechanism cuts, and I think the designer has reasons to trim off the second anchor. I just added it back for the bragging right.

    • @cubestur8157
      @cubestur8157 Před měsícem

      personally I prefer the Aoshi WRM i enjoy the Meilong V2M but it is MUCH less stable and the middle slice magnet strength is WAY more pronounced/too strong xompared to other inner layer alices than on the WRM... (at least on my cubes here haha)

    • @laiscube
      @laiscube Před měsícem

      @@cubestur8157 I found that my comp nerves are relatively worse in the morning and I end up preferring the more stable cube, while in the later parts afternoon when the comp drags on (and more so if I'm staffing) I start getting more tired I start preferring the cube that takes less effort to turn. Kind of experienced this with the Aochuang WRM and Valk before getting the Hong, where my Valk was unmodded and faster (naturally a rock-solid cube that I decided against core-magnetizing), while my Aochuang had been core-magnetized with rods like a Gan 12 and was comparably stable while offering better corner cutting and allignment, so the Aochuang became the a.m cube while the Valk became the p.m. cube. The Meilong 6 seems better than the Aoshi in speed and size, but the stability issues kind of prevented a total takeover like the Meilong 7 did to the Aofu. (rectified the stability a bit with the core magnets and Angstrom setup) I think the Aoshi adds up to be the better cube overall, the Meilong should have come with slightly stronger springs. Somehow on my Meilong 6 the 2nd and 3rd layers feel the same while the outer is the weakest, which in my opinion is the perfect combo

  • @rubrikduck

    What's the advantage of going stalkless? I'm not following your explination very well. Is it just to give the foot of the corner piece more space?

    • @laiscube
      @laiscube Před měsícem

      It allows the corner to be 1mm bigger, which sounds small, but adds up when considerieng 3 dimensions. If you look at certain cubes like the Diansheng Solar S5, MGC 7x7, and the original video of my Maglev 5x5, the corner bases are quite substantially bigger. And if you compare the Yuexiao and Meiying 3x3s (these two are very similar in mech, but the Yuexiao is stalkless), the Yuexiao is a lot more stable.

      I could have spun it with more force but with ther 4th layer removed there's nothing preventing the 3rd layer pieces from flying off. Still there's a great deal of it due to the inertia or centrifugal force carrying on the rotation, and is not purely the shear frictionlessness of the Maglev.

      There are plenty of old Florian mod tutorials on CZcams, but I would recommend Cyoubx's Shengshou 4x4 one. Same concept, but in a modern cube you have one extra part to mod (the outer anchor of the double anchored corner). This part didn't exist in the old cubes that were all single-anchored. You can refer to my 'how to design a 4x4 cube episode 4' if you are not sure what part of the cube this is. In that video I Florian-modded a cube digitally.

    i think this release was just yj’s easy attempt at making the mgc still relevant after the release of the vin. the washer between the screw and the spring has bearings inside it which are supposed to reduce friction, but it does make me wonder what they were thinking considering that part doesnt even move on even layered cubes. I imagine they had the idea then realized it didnt do anything, so they just added weaker springs to make it seem like its the washer speeding it up. I would still be curious to know what would happen if you put the speed actuator in an odd cube like a 5x5, and if that would actually speed it up.
