Journey Thru-N-C
Registrace 28. 02. 2023
Welcome to the Journey Thru-N-C (or "Journey Thru-and-See")! During this journey, "The Squatch" (our motorhome) and The Squatch Crew (everyone in it) will spend at least one night in all 100 counties in North Carolina. Each time we visit a new county or just one we frequent, we'll share the campgrounds we stay including boondocking spots. Usually at night, we give a brief historical overview and "fun facts' about that county. Some of the information we also share includes urban legends, ghost stories and well known companies that had their beginning.
Folks, with any journey you're never really sure what you'll experience, be it bad or good. We're just down-to-earth folks that want to share with those interested things we can learn in our own backyards. You may be from another state, if that be the case, we hope this will encourage you to journey into your own unique part of the world and discover its rich history, people and opportunities that wait for you!

The Happy Tree
During a Carolina Thread Trail hike a little over a month ago, Sandra and I was introduced to a Mimosa tree. Sandra did some research on it and found out that it has medicinal properties. So, while harvesting some flowers / bark, we had the delight of running across a therapist who treats her patients with the aspects we learned about.

While on a family reunion, Sandra and I stayed a a unique VRBO called "Holliday Hideaway." What was so cool about this place was that it was like a mini-museum, so we decided to share it with our friends. See link below. Now, we also had an opportunity to visit a "Buc-ee's." Thank you for the review!
Sure thing...you are very welcome. Have a super day!!
I mill kamut on level 3 ,on my mock mill 100 and it is delicious, it doesn’t clump up. I tried spelt and it clumped up
Thanks for that insight. We just got another mill "Nutrimill" which is an impact mill. It has a bowl undernearth to keep the dust down and holds more. We are still gonna keep this mill though for a back-up / cream of wheat. Thanks for the comment / insight and have a super day!!
I grew up about a quarter mile down the road from it
It was named Bullins gas station when i was a kid it had old wood floors and shelves my grandpa would take me there and i would usually get a glass bottle Pepsi and some single pieces of gum for a penny a piece and sometimes a old pack of baseball cards with the gum in them when it shut down the new owner named it nikki's one stop then after that shut down new owners named it johnboys county store now its been vacant for probably around 13 years or so
Wow, thanks for sharing that information! It's really neat to learn about some of the old stores you see still standing. Have a super day!
Been on those dunes many times. ❤
The ranger there told me, when we were talking about it feeling like you were walking in a desert...."Come back in July!" Thanks for sharing....have a super day!!
We have stayed there in the creekside. We didn’t pay any extra for our site since it was the last spot and smallest available! The farm across the street has awesome produce, and delicious ice creams!
I'm still learning about that "lock-in" fee....seems there is a reason for it. I had watched a video where they explained exactly why they do it and how in the past they did not allow folks to pick their sites....the CZcams video was a news channel for RV'ers, seems to be on top of what's going on. They did say that the campgrounds need to be upfront about the extra fee and not wait until the person has went through picking the site, filling out all the information and then hit them up witht he extra fee. I still am on the fence with it though. Yes, that farmer's market was very cool and seemed like a happening place! Thanks for sharing that, have a great day!!
Bullins gas station. I could buy packs of cigarettes here at 9
Cool....I've had many folks reply about the history on this place. Did you say you could buy cigarettes there when you were "9"?

English muffins... you said baked them off? The ones I've made I fried in the getting pan. I'm curious how you do it with the oven? Thanks!
Sure thing, right before she puts them in the oven, she lays them on a griddle to brown both sides. After that she puts them in the oven. They turned out perfect. At the time of the comment, she's in the bed (after midnight LOL).
Those are my ancestors buried there, John "junior" Hagler III

The hubby and I hiked several trails at Cliffs of the Neuse last week and I ended up getting a tick on my leg. Ugh! I hate those things. Next time I'll be loaded down with spray.
I bet they're out on-n-heavy now. That is a nice place out there. Thanks for the comment and safe travels!!
The House in the Horseshoe is a great place to see. It is very interesting.
Cool, thanks for sharing that!! Have a super day!!
future rv technician here. taking the class in july to august........if you are in phoenix metro....keep me in mind....i will be specializing in roofing, and will be learning how to use this method. happy travels ya'll great video, but how much did it cost You???? thats always the bottom line consideration
Congrats, we'll do! If I remember correctly, it was around $4500 for a Class C of the size we had. They had it done in exactly 3 days. That is some really tough stuff. It is much like (if not the same) as bedliner material, but they also spray a white UV protectant on top. I am very happy with it. Have a super day and we hope you have much success!!
I searched for organic oatmeal ... And bought it.
Awesome!
My favorite Frescoe
That was a really cool place! Have a super day!!
My hubby and I just bought a camper for our 50th anniversary. We will be going to the Cliffs real soon for our first trip. We've visited there before, as we used to live in that area, but have not camped there. So looking forward to it as well as discovering many more NC camping sites!
Congratulations on your purchase! That is a really nice campground. Check out "Harvest Hosts" also and you can find some unique places, many are boondocking locations, we've done videos on several of them. We're attempting to stay in all "100" counties in North Carolina...55 done at the time of this comment, hopefully, we can give you some ideas on some of the places. We wish you safe travels!!
@journeythru-n-c I've subscribed and look forward to watching more of your videos. 😊
Thanks! We mainly do our trips in the cooler months....October - May, but, we may throw in a trip here and there in the Summer months, but not much if at all. We're taking some downtime, so you may see some Carolina Thread Trail trips. Have a super day!!
Great video! I live near Morrow Mt and go there often. Our local Amateur Radio Club provides communications for several running, biking and hiking events at the park. Lots of work has been done recently in the campgrounds and at the summit. Momo is one of NC's best kept secrets!
Thank you! Wow, that's awesome....we do plan on returning. We've RV camped at their campground before, they said they've improved several things in the camogrounds...shower houses being one of them. Thanks again!😊
Got married at the Kron House June 1st 1985!
Oh wow, that's awesome! It was beautiful out there! Thanks for sharing that, I could definitely see the appeal😊
The sound in the background is from cicadas, not locusts. It's been a few years since I remember hearing them last. I've seen in the news that there are two broods of cicadas emerging which only happens once every 221 years, the last time the two broods synchronized was 1803 (I read the numbers on the internet so it must be true). I was camping and hiking on the other side of the river in Uwharrie this week. I hope to visit the Morrow Mountain side some time this year. Looking forward to your next video!
Okay, I was wondering if it were in fact cicadas....we asked one of the staff there and they told us it was locusts. Thanks for the information!!
Reserved a spot, then came on CZcams the next day to find this 😊
You are in for a treat with this campground....don't be surprised if the owner offers you a ride / tour of the land he has. Awesome guy!! Enjoy your trip!!
Thanks for posting this, great info!
You are very welcome....that's a great campground that is very close to the zoo. have a super day and safe travels!!
Only paranormal is thing I’ve seen is in Rodanthe off of Sea Haven drive. I’ve seen a ghost lantern twice on the beach right before sunrise. One time I ran over a snake on that road and when I got out of the car there was no snake anywhere. There was a small graveyard with the Midgett family. I’ve had friends with strange encounters in that area as well.
Thanks for sharing! We love checking out old graveyards...the OBX Campground has a graveyard almost in the middle of the campground. The grave yard is situated towards the entrance more, but splits one side form the other. The staff their have excellent records concerning the history of that graveyard. Again, thanks for sharing that and have a fantastic day!!
It so relaxing to walk out there.
I told Sandra we should've brought our chair out there....it was very nice.
Fantastic video! Thanks for staying with us and sharing about your experience in Graham County. Good luck making it to all of the counties!
You are very welcome, you have a wonderful campground!! We got "45" counties left!!😊
I have never been to a campground where they left supplies in the bathroom. That's really nice. Lynn and Danny
Yeah, I know, first ine we saw that did that. This is a very nice campground....I was so impressed with how they took care of the sires.
I grew up near a Enchanted Forest in Maryland I assume this is NC?
Yes....Clay County, North Carolina.
Murphy Bed
Yep....they utilized all the space in that small area ver well.
I’m sorry, but do not waste your time visiting the tramping ground! Unless you wanna just say you’ve been there. It is on private property, but as long as you don’t trash the place, and the gate is open, you’re allowed to go. I’ve tried to contact the owner, but they didn’t ever respond. They do have BBQ trucks there every so often! Also, if you’ve past Sandwood Drive, you’ve past the tramping ground.
Thanks for the that information...I would like to visit it some day.
Perhaps the moon eyed people were suffering from albinism? Quite a stretch to say, but maybe. It would explain the sun sensitivity and pale white skin.
Yes, I have heard that before. Also, the stone figures in the video is actually on display in Cherokee County. A farmer was plowing and dug them up....they believe it is a representation of the moon-eyed people. Have a super day!!
8 think I would have stopped at that Cracker Barrel again, until the storm passed. I used to live 1/2 mile from Toe River Campground.
Yeah, that would've been a good idea. We actually have boondocked at the Cracker barrel we passed. If the wind would've been any worse, we would've pulled over. Toe River Campground needs to let that one destroyed area to remain. They are definitley prone to flooding in that lower end next to the river. I think it is a great campground, they need to rethink building that area back....I saw the aftermath and "wow" what destruction. Thanks for the comment, safe travels!
You have a cool channel, I love those retro campers....I subscribed...look forward to checking those vids out!
@@journeythru-n-c thanks!
@@journeythru-n-c I hate towing in the rain.
Oh yes, we use to have a car tow dolly. Outstanding dolly, but man was it a pain to have to set-up when the weather was bad. I have since sold it, because we only travel in North Carolina with the motorhome. We live in the middle of the state and it really only takes us up to 4 -5 hours in either direction to the ends of each side of the state...unless we are wanting to travel the outer banks. Most of our areas we annualy visit are 4 hours or less, so Sandra just chases in the Honda. If I ever was to downsize, I swear I would get one of those retro campers...they are so cool. I don't ever see us going larger.
Moses probably had an easier time walking up because he had a staff. I bought a pair of staffs off amazon (trekking poles), but I think my staffs are counterfeits because I can't get them to turn into snakes.
Ha-ha....I hear'ya.....that was definitley a climb for sure!
Thank you for sharing We have been eyeing that campground
You are very welcome....awesome campground and owner! Have a super day and safe travels!
It would be great to have a stream right outside the camper door. I love that sound for sure. It looks like the site could use some leveling, seeing that your front wheels are off the ground. Great review. We will be doing a bit of travel in NC this year, we look forward to seeing more of you videos. thanks for sharing the info We enjoy COE campgrounds because they are always arounds water plus normally $20 or less per night which is a bit more doable on retirement income.
Yes, it does have a slight slope in the front. I did not even think to mention that...this is one reason I do layovers while talking, so folks can see thing I may not bring up. Thanks for the comment, safe travels!
Beautiful sight 😍. Where is this exactly located?
It was really nice. It is located in Graham County, NC....."Robbinsville"
I LOVED this video! Great work man. Liked and subscribed.
Thank you, glad you enjoyed it! That is an awesome camground.😊
I was there 2 weeks ago. It was cold at night
That was a really neat area, I think I may have saw "1" eagle while waiting to get into the site (?) We always like to take our chair and have what we call "sit-down moments." They can be literally anywhere...they dogs get all excited when they see me get it our, because they know it's lap time. Hope you enjoyed your time out there, it is a unique area for sure.

Next time you're through Caldwell County, you gotta get up to Patterson. Chapel of Rest is said to be haunted...went there as a teen, and didn't have an experience, but others say they have. Talk to the locals about the lore surrounding the supposed haunting...also, the song about Tom Dula is centered in that area as well...
Cool, thanks for sharing that information. We still plan on visiting Tom Dula's grave. At one time, I went over the story behind him, I thing I deleted the video though for some reason (?)
I thought it was my feral car out side. Lol😂 hi kitty. Mr feed your cat morris wet food from the dollar tree 1.25 per 13.5 ounces of tasty wet cat food , then a creamy lickable( its cat - yogurt) They go nuts over it.
Yes, that was Alex, my daughter's cat. He has sinced passed....he was about 16-17 years old.
Hi handsome . I was just doing this calculation, is rv armor really as thick as , i measured 3 quarters and my measurements read 1/4 thick. Today is 03/09/2024 6:10am pst. And you are showing your video. This proves that boro have a great product and is trustworthy and honest. Rv amor-rock boros rocks.
I put "3" quarters up to it and it was exactly "3" quarters thick. I remember what it felt like walking on the roof before I had this done and it defelintely has a more solid feel to it. It is very much like truck bed spray, but smoother and they add a UV protectant layer lastly....that is the white you see. Depending on the exposure abrasive scrubbing one uses when washing, that white will eventually start to fade away and it is advised to have them repsray that layer on. I was told I did not have to do one thing to the roof anymore....nothing. They said I could wash it with whatever I wanted. I use the same thing I was my motorhome with and it is "SO" nice not to have to mess with any sealants anymore. Hope this helps....have a great day and sorry for the response delay, we were on a RV trip!
