Hi, my name is Diana Lisa, or DL, As a late blooming artist/illustrator, I've discovered that a sketch often starts with a story, emotion or connection that I experience and that I want to get out onto the page. Sometimes that is on the tv tray and the sofa, the balcony or planting my beach chair for a couple of hours and painting as though it is just me, the gulls and the waves.
This channel is about an artistic journey told through filling sketchbooks using various mediums, practicing techniques learned from my favorite artists, transferring analog to the digital canvas {Adobe Fresco, iPad and Photoshop (occasionally)} and diving into the deep end to share my art.

Love seeing how other artists organize their Sendak rolls! Only because you expressed interest in pronunciation, en is pronounced “on” and plein is pronounced “plen” rather than plane. Not that it really matters. We know what you mean.
Thank you that is very helpful ;) I love Sendak roll set up vids also
Nice videos !!Biaelk 1610 synthetic hair watercolor brushes set
@georgelee3588 thank you for commenting
This was so fun! I have been enjoying your videos Michelle! And I have missed yours Diana. I didn’t see either of you at Kriksis sketching either. You both are so great and I miss when you’re not there. 😊
Hi thank you for watching I was in Alaska at Kriksis last session meeting my first grandchild Yes life has been a bit much lately I hope to get back to making videos soon Thank you for your kind words We were both in Kriksis session this morning Take care I will post as soon as I can
All is wonderful, but you have to treat the fountain pen as the fine and sofisticated tool, in order to function. Please try to squeeze the cartridge with the green ink, allow it to spill few drops of green ink, in order to have the green ink washing out the previous ink colour. In order to try the fountain pen, try just drawing the line in one direction, or try to write. Scribles in all directions are hurting the fountain pen and obstructing the ink flow. Best wishes 🙂
Thank you for the tips I had no idea
We had fun again thanks Diana :0)
My pleasure. We will keep the good times coming 🎉
Thank you for this video. Was wondering especially about the alcohol markers.
The alcohol markers definitely add a subtle shadowing but they bleed through for sure thank you for watching
tysm for making this!! im trying to find out sketchbooks for my first SERIOUS sketchbook (where i try to finish, all the others i just dipped.) and i found beechmore a decent option as I'm mostly a muji pen kinda person, and i love how it can come in red and minimalistic, so I found that pretty cool but i will keep this in mind and keep scouting for other options!
I did not find that it would be in my favorites I would still go with Moleskine Art, Ranger Dylusions and also Stillman and Burns cream paper softbound Nova series I think What is your current favorite?
@@diana-lisa sorry for the late reply! but i haven't really used many sketchbooks from brands as most of them are homemade. but my most recent one is by leda art supply and its pretty good. will check out the stuff you recommended though, thank you!!
I would recommend for creator of "to go sketch bag" to make bag at least 2in wider, 2inch deeper for easier fit for small sketchbook. Also add an inch or so to bungee cord, so it will lay completely flat when you want it to.
Those recommendations would make it even more user friendly. Thank you so much for watching
Ian, the creator, does already make two larger sizes - a medium and a large. Diana chose to purchase the small size. The small and medium both open to lay flat if desired.
Enjoyed this. Thank you. Do fancy a Sendak 😊
Yes Peg and Awl products are lovely
Thank you for a lovely drawing session.
My pleasure 😊thank you :)
Fantastic peacock how lovely
It was so unexpected I didn’t notice him but so fun 🎉
Beach looks lovely
It was :)
Sorry to miss the live! I set a notification but didn’t get it 🤷🏼♀️
That’s my fault my stream didn’t connect so I had to start a new one
I loved your little Robin drawing so cute x
Thank you ☺️ so much 🎉
Thank you for a lovely session together 😀
Back at ya
You both have such sweet kids! Michelle’s son is always thoughtful.
Thank you Melanie :)
Oh Michelle, thank you so much for showing us your style and what you do. I’m the person that inquired to know. It was so fun to your techniques. I am really surprised by the amount of layers you actually used. Plus the amount of mixed media! I have the neo colors and faber castell markers that you have. But I don’t have the graphitints or inktense pencils. I do have faber castell albrecht durer watercolor pencils and caran dache watercolor pencils. I think they would act similarly. Your picture turned out beautiful! I’m anxious to try to use mine and do some practicing. Again, thank you so much!
☺️ you’re welcome , yes I knew it was you I did t want to use your handle since I don’t ask you so I made that video only because you asked I’m happy you found it helpful ( I’m Diana Lisa by the way or DL for short) have a great day and thank you for commenting
Love these vignettes that you do.
🥰 awwww thanks
Great job! I like to have a white gel pen and a Tombow Mono Zero eraser with me all the time.
I need to add the white gel pen and eraser. Thank you
Gorgeous red colour.
It’s fun
love your black clips with the magnets...can you get those on-line?
Yes Amazon amzn.to/3K3NMTq
I use a small pair of pliers for tube opening when tight
Good tip
Lovely calm painting and a cute set up.
thank you
Hi Diana...nice to see you here...Santa! Sure is a small world ...when you think about the likelihood of me finding you on youtube...along with Michelle...Congratulations!
Hi, Janis, thank you and thank you for watching and commenting. :)
Cute Peg and Awl! I would definitely be buying a smaller sketchbook even if you have to buy a different brand. That one is definitely too big. I’m anxious to see your solutions. 😁
I was even thinking of trying to trim the sketchbook but I might have to use watercolor sheets
How did I miss this live!? Hope you love your mini as much as I do.
@@hildybean I do love it but… struggling to find a sketchbook that will fit in the back pocket
That's really lovely.
Thank you @MichelleMouldArtist
What is the name of your watercolor brush? Would like to buy one for myself hehe
It is by Kuretake a waterbrush I found it in Amazon let me Know if you cannot find it and I will send you a link
Found it thank you!
You can cut pencils in half and sharpen both pieces. Use an exacto knife or a small saw..
I did not think of that thank you
so true...and what a great idea...the same as breaking the caran d'ache crayons into 3's...to fill more little travel tins...and they also can be sharpened at one end...with just a little exacto knife...I think ...could do the trick...saving the shavings of course.......for some..."you just never know what stuff"
@@kookatsoonjan I haven't tried sharpening with the exacto knife but i'll give it a whirl.
It can be great practice to do something more than once. It can help us to learn what we did, what we liked and what we want to improve. Loved it.
Yes so true it took me a while to begin to appreciate iteration
That's so cute. I love it. I think you are finding your style.
Thank you @MichelleMouldArtist. I appreciate that. :)
Yes it looks like it will stay intact @hildybean
It looks like you can only use one side of the paper due to the ghosting. Was it expensive?
True. It was $18 US I’ll use watercolor and posca maybe. I’ll stick to the Ranger square sketchbook over this one
Do the perforations look like they will be sturdy for people who don’t want to remove pages?
This was so fun to watch! I enjoy these and the patreon one that was today too. I watched it on replay. I’m going to try one of these times to join all of you. I have challenges but one of these days you will see me. I’m wondering if you would do some videos showing us how you use all of your supplies? (The ones you used for the patreon session today?). I don’t know how to use most of them even though I do have some of them. I really like the way you paint and draw with them and I would appreciate any tips and to also watch you close up using them. In the paint alongs you aren’t close enough to the camera to see. Thank you for this fun video!
@loveandlife4222 Oh yes for sure . That is music to my ears I would love to do a video or a few on how I use each supply and why as I paint an Illustration. What supplies would you like to see first. Thank you so much for watching, commenting and subscribing.. I so appreciate you. ❤
Oh yay!! I would love to know how to use neocolors. I actually have neocolor II’s but I’ve never used them at all. I have faber castell albrecht durer watercolor pencils but when I used them the other day I realized I really don’t know how to use them. Same with my caran dache museum aquarelles. I have some tombow markers and I never use them because I find that I don’t like the scratchy kind of unfinished look. The only way I would know to use them would be to color. I have some different fountain pens and really love using them but find I don’t very often. I don’t have the fude pen. Isn’t that a fountain pen? I don’t remember what else you said you have. I have always only used watercolors and I like to do glazes and make things look nice. I think these timed paintings would be really good for me! To get me loosened up a bit. One of the reasons I don’t join the patreon challenges is because I don’t know how to use anything but watercolor. Thank you Diana!
@loveandlife4222 yay that’s a great list. A dude pen is a pen nib that bends, not a fountain pen. I don’t use them much but I can. There are a few people who use just watercolor in challenges. The trick is to only pick a few or one element to focus on or quickly use a dryer to get them dry while you are layering. I am excited to get to work on a video. Please join our next zoom Patreon with Kriksis and don’t show your work at the end and just see what you can do . I struggled for a long time getting anything but blossom on the page cause of not being able to get something on the page quickly. It is definitely different than just sitting down to compose an illustration.. As you keep going with timed drawings you will begin to surprise yourself. Michelle and I also take turns hosting Zooms when Kriksis is not holding a session. We put those in the Discord. Looking forward to seeing you there.
Fude not dude lol
This was a great challenge. Thanks so much Diana.
Great job! Yes it was well done ❤
These are a lovely record to have.
That’s true isn’t it. I had not really thought of it that way yet. Thank you
The beach looks fabulous. Such a soothing sound and the sendak really is the best in my opinion.
It is I agree I wonder if they sell a leather strap to tuck into it to carry like a crossbody bag. Hmm
No I have not good idea 🎉
Really comprehensive and a lovely choice of plein air kits.
Thanks the most loved 🥰 kits lol
I lovee! the pochade box!
Thank you Jordan ❤
You can use it or borrow it anytime ❤
Such beautiful locations, thanks for sharing your supplies!
Thank you 🙏🏻
I’m impressed that you can swatch in an order different than the way the paints are arranged. I would have botched that for sure!
Lol, I didn't even realize it until I started in so I just went with it. Thanks for watching :)
Really sunny and bright 😀
It is bright isn’t ? and it was all cloudy outside lol
Cute set of brushes - is there a link to where you got them?

@@diana-lisa Thank you. Not available in UK Amazon but I think I can find elsewhere.
could you use the included containers for water if you used less paper? Then one of those travel pallets made in card holders would fit nicely with a small travel paint brush and maybe a small pen and pencil.
Oh yes maybe that could work good idea I have a few Plein air kits I really like these on my shelf at home They make me happy to look at
I can hardly hear you. ☹️
Technical feedback- can barely hear you.
Oh no, thank you for letting me know. I'll play it back right now for myself
Very organised. Looks great. :)
Thank you! 😊
Looks like you have great weather. The passport journal seems to work well too.
It was great weather! Yea I just have to see if I can find a clip solution I’m gonna try a money clip
❤
Beautiful balcony and no wind, very nice spot!
It was a very nice day. Yes, the wind was almost non existent so that was nice. :)
What is the name of your pencil please?
Kaweco Sport Clutch pencil 3.2
What is the pencil please? Have been looking for mechanical sketching pencils like that for ages and can never find one!
I am not sure of the brand as it came with the just go sketching kit itself . I will see if I can figure that out :)
