I love the model A ford gas gauge in the aeroncas. Great fun airplanes.
Used to own a 46 Chief. Loved that plane!
8:42 minutes of taxiing why?
Honestly I was pretty young when I posted this and just wanted to show the run up and what not. I posted another video not too long after this where I'm just doing pattern work if you want to check that one out. Thanks for commenting!
That's a really nice looking plane I have a 46 taylocraft looks pretty similar the old planes are a lot of fun 😊. Nice video.
Great strip and great plane.
I know this is an old video however I cringed when you pull the chocs out from the main wheels way too close work the ramp for many years never would I ever come that close
Hey there! We purposely walk behind the prop to remove chocks in case the parking brake fails. There's really not a better way to remove them for our plane. I'd love to get a better suggestion on how to remove them safer though! I worked the ramp for GA for a while always have removed the same way. Thanks!
I owned N9449E. Brings back memories.😊
🛫📖🛬 It's a great bird you've got there. Show her love everyday and care diligently for her. At 15 years of age I climbed in to a 7ac and then the 7FC and the love affair never died. You're a blessed man and richer by far than most to have this experience. How I wish I could go back and touch those days again. Just found your channel a few minutes ago and may I ask how far along are you now in January of 23 ❓ The quote that you show at the end is one that I carry in my heart every day and it is a small placard in my airplane. Just imagine; "HEY NEVER FLEW" GOD Bless 📖🛐✈️
I owned a champ many moons ago! Makes me long for the sky once more before I die!
Liking the ride videos!!!
Perfect quote at the end. Nice plane.
How tall are you? Do you fit comfortably in one?
I'm about 5'9" with a lot of room to spare in the seat!
@@flyhigh1768 Awesome thanks, I’m 6’3 just seeing how well I’d fit
Maybe I missed it; where is that grass strip?
Its in Dimmick Illinois! Private strip
I'm gonna cry
Did you get your license?
How expensive is it to own the Aeronica Chief for a first aircraft?
This one is worth about 25k and it holds 13 gallons in the main and 8 in the aux at around 4.50 per gallon. Annual cost usually fluctuates quite a bit if tires are needed or a new jug or something. And A&P cost
I’ve flown an Aeronca Champ for years. I have a 1946 Champ. Love the Chief. Those control wheels are classic retro! Just too cool!
Gorgeous aircraft 👍
how tall are you guys? im looking at some projects but think i might have to go with the champ
I about 5'9" on a good day😂
@@flyhigh1768 lol I'm 6"4 amd 220 so I guess champ it is
I have a Champ, lots of room.
What a beautiful strip, not to mention the awesome R/C strip you guys have. You can get just about anything in and out of that full scale strip.
We actually had a Grumman TBM Avenger fly in here once!
@@flyhigh1768 That must have been a sight!
You are fortunate to be able to learn to fly in a real airplane. It will teach you how to use your feet!!! That is the most important thing. Don't ever let that airplane leave the family. Does it have the original Continental A-65 in it?
It does!! I'm very fortunate and will never let it leave!!
Please correct me if wrong; but that looks like Tri-City airport...between "Grandpa's Farm & KVYS. Keep it based there? Glad to see your getting your wings! Nothing like a real airplane (nose wheel in back where it belongs) on grass! This airline pilot misses those days☹️
Yes it is!! And we do keep it based there! Thanks for commenting!
FlyHigh 17 Good deal! So my next question...Few years back I met a gentleman "rebuilding" a Chief in his garage (on the alley) on the next block south of me...would have been the 300 block of 5th st. In Mendota...you by chance? If so, great work! And if not...you've heat that Chief in fantastic condition. I'm at six o nine fourth Ave...
@@ricklowers8873 I dont think that was ours, but there is another Chief up at Grandpas and that could be it!!
It’s great to see these old birds still flying. Your grandpa obviously loved and cared for her. Now it’s your turn to get another 60 years out of her
I'm very proud that we have a small piece of history. I'm definitely going to keep it flying for as long as I can! Thanks for watching!
Get shoulder harnesses. If you have a mishap your face will thank you. Nice Chief! Nice strip!
Thank you for the info!! I appreciate it!
I know this was posted super long ago, but this video is my go to when I'm having a bad day, miss those marching days ❤️
Hi, nice plane! What is the round object just behind the compass, at the front window? Is it to check if the magnetos work?
That's actually our fuel gauge for the main tank! Thank you for asking!
Thanks! Isn't it hard to see? It's obscured by the compass. Guess you can see the fuel-level this way. @@flyhigh1768
@@Backtrack it's a little tough. You have to boost yourself up😂
FlyHigh 17 those sight gauges are from a model A ford! High tech stuff 😬
@@sblack48 that's awesome I didnt actually know that!! Thanks for the info!!
I have the first of the 11CC models. Great airplane
That is a beautiful airplane! Nicely flown to. Loved the use of chocks during engine start. Here is a simple tip to consider; put the chocks so that the ropes go from the inside around the front to the outside so that when you pull them away you can do so without any fear of them getting caught in the wheels as they pivot (rotate) out of place rather than pull out of place. This helps when the plane has put a bit of pressure on them.
Thank you for the tip!!!
Nice video Just need to correct the DeVinci Quote. "It's Flight not Fight" Great Quote as well, Just saying....
Thanks for the correction!
Forgot the E6B...!!!
These kids forever farting w/ their cell phones... just fly the plane, map and stop watch...!!!!
He was actually texting my mom😂 we know the area really well so we just fly for fun. We never really need phones for a map. Thanks for watching though!
Flying for fun. Don’t need to navigate don’t need gps. Just fly!
:)
Beautiful plane!
Thank you!
I made it!!!
Latch the door... dont SLAMMM IT...!!!
Alexander Reimer yeaaa and then I realized my seatbelt was in the jam😬🤣
I owned a champ that if you did not slam it it popped open on takeoff! I slammed it. My plane!
Beautiful Chief, great Video! Great video, awesome Aeronca Chief. Great video memory for me as my Dad owned an Aeronca Chief, N9829, from 1949 to 1953 flying off his farm in central Pennsylvania. Ownership for Dad's Chief moved from owner to owner across the United States. In 1986 it was de-registered in the US and moved to Canada. N9829E final landing came in the late 1990s following a crash near Anahim Lake, British Columbia.
r1udp9 Oh Wow! What an awesome story! My whole childhood has been in this plane! Thankyou for watching!
Meant to ask, what speed will she cruise?
Gims110 it usually cruises at right around 75mph with the metal prop we have on it! Thankyou for commenting!
Hate to keep bugging you but I am interested. Would a different kind of prop make any difference?
Gims110 That's fine! The prop we have on it now is close to the max the engine can swing. If we went a little bigger with more pitch we might get some more speed on takeoff but at cruise it'd burn more fuel.
a wooden prop of a coarser pitch will give you a faster cruise, but less climb
Great video and beautiful Chief! thanks for the reply!
Nice, 65 horse?
Gims110 yes it is! We just put 3 new jugs on her and it's amazing how much more power we get out of it.
hi
I love it
Did Marcus just say stuff every show? Lol
