I just got this kit and am eager to start!

From hip to bottom of piece, I can’t decide whether to use increase or original. From side of increased piece, do you slide back to line up with bottom of piece ?

How much fabric do I need to make the placemats? Or precuts?

Why does the fitting chart switch from the traditional pattern sizes (14, 16, 18 etc) to 42, 44, 46 etc when you go from Misses to Women’s sizes? What do those numbers refer to? It’s equally confusing on the pants chart because she says to use a size 22 if your hip measurement is 50” or more, but if you’re no longer a Misses, but a Women’s pattern size, you get a 44. What pattern is a 44? Yes I can fill it in myself, but I don’t understand where she gets those numbers from. Help!

I am missing a step - in the pattern it says "Step 4: Assemble: • Following manufacturer’s instructions, press 20" x 41" interfacing rectangle and 18" x 20" interfacing rectangle to back of 20" x 41" outer tote fabric rectangle and 18" x 20" contrasting pocket fabric rectangle." There's no mention of what interfacing that is... because in the next step it says. " Using paper pattern, cut one each from: outer tote fabric, Pellon Sof-Shape Interfacing, Pellon Insul-Fleece Batting, and Pellon Silver Lining Insul-Film." Nowhere in the pattern instructions does it say there's an extra interfacing or what it is (other than obviously some kind of fusible interfacing). And it's not in the video either. The only interfacing mentioned is the sof-shape.

I figured out a way to print a pattern that's just like this (using the instructions and Wild Things pattern software) since I didn't have pattern paper. That way I could adjust the size a little. The pattern I used is the Bridge Tote and i Put the bottom edge on the fold so the pieces are one long piece. And the pattern can be used over and over since it prints in my printer on regular copier paper.

Worst Tutorial!

I’m having trouble with the cross cross back apron. How do you adjust it for an average size person to get more coverage around the sides and back? The pattern seems to only lay properly and work for small people.

The pattern I bought from y’all does not have the whole piece of the handle & sides in 1 piece…so confusing… I’m still going to try make it. 😐

Hello. I am trying to learn the pivot and slide method as it seems such a good idea and preserves the original pattern and saves slashing the pattern. I have Nancy's small book called The Busy Woman's Fitting Book. I don't really know though how to alter the waist length on a top. Someone told me alter in the middle and slide from the mark in the middle. Should it be at the bottom of the top? At the same time I was told making the waist lower will also make the hip lower and I would need to look at that and alter it. I am not sure how to do these two things in one step, as well as pivot out to a slightly larger hip. The pivoting seems ok, it is the sliding I am having trouble understanding. Thank you.

What number do you have the foot pressure on to sew the foam?

Two things, you mixed up the bags... and didn't talk about the band on the bottom of the bag. Your finished example has the band on the bag, and the working example is all one fabric on both inside and one piece outside. Also, you really should talk to the camera.

I have made 4 of these for Christmas gifts for our daughters and daughter-in-laws. Great project. I noticed an error in the printed pattern picture. On page 6, bottom right, when sewing the side seams, DO NOT sew the cut out sections as part of the side seam, as illustrated in the picture. You won't be able to form the final bottom gusset if you do. Recommendations: 1) if your printed fabric is a one way design, cut two 20" x 20 3/4" going the same direction, and seam them together with 1/4" seam that will be on the bottom of the bag. 2) I top stitched the zippers after sewing each side. They lay flatter and look cleaner on the inside.
