Watching this ten years on, realising what happens to Ben and Paul and Abbie and Dean....crazy

Real ones know that Callum cannot hold a candle to what both Johnny and later Paul meant to Ben. You never forget your firsts, and you never forget the people who were there for you when no-one else was, when you were a scared clueless kid.

Whit had a really adorable style and outfit in this era, everyone else's fashion on the Square was quite boring or unattractive.

The really eerie part about watching this 10 years later is (SPOILER ALERT) how Abbie & Lola are both dead, Ben is in prison indefinitely (written out, essentially), and Johnny has only just returned to the Square after several years absent. Only Jay is the same and still appearing as a consistent character.

Everyone has always maintained that Sam Strike made a poor Johnny Carter, and that he thought it was beneath him to act in a soap or play gay but needed a foothold in the TV world so took the part anyway. Looking back on the tapes, I really don't see that--here he looks in his element performing well. I believe that he's a young, awkward, newly out teen with a confusing crush on the local delinquent. And the chemistry between Strike & Harry Reid really crackled, so I don't know why their romance s/l never went anywhere, but I doubt it was purely because of Strike's alleged reluctance.

Johnny always looks embarrassed with his red ears and cheeks, it's like he is embarresed playing a gay character

As I watch this video, I just can't forgive the producers for recasting Ben Mitchell. Not only was Harry Reid perfect but the chemistry between he and Gillian Taylforth was just 👌🏻

I feel bad for ben because all these years he thought Kathy was dead until she returned and she even missed out the part that Ben was abused by Stella bullied and always been attacked and even hung over Walford bridge by Martin Fowler in 2007

Has there been a successful gay relationship (between two men) since Syed Masood and Christian Clarke? I've stopped watching Eastenders. I haven't watched it in years, but i really want to know! Paul and Ben would've been perfect and Callum Highway and Johnny Carter would've been perfect! I don't get it. I want them writers to know that gay men do find love. We're not all out here being promiscuous plus the relationships don't have to stem from a love affair. It can just be two men coming together! Like why can't a gay couple that are already established move to the square and show a new normal? A camp, femme guy and a nerdy, video game creator or something?I know it's a soap opera, but damn haha. Give us something to strive for! 🌈🌈

All the build up & drama for the 'coming out' moment then Kathy 'we already knew'. It's like having an anti climax before the orgasm!

Another thing about Ben's character that has changed is his love relationship. Ben treated Paul and Johnny much better than he has ever treated Callum for the entirety of their relationship. Pam (though not initially) and Les both loved Ben whereas Stuart and Rainie (and also Vi) hate him.

Out of all the Ben Mitchell's, Max bowden is the best ❤️

When they announced a Carter Child returning I kinda wanted it to be Johnny just to see how him and Ben would get on now - especially with Ben in a committed relationship, and Max Bowden as Ben (who, imho, is the best Ben actor - he's a decent balance of Mitchell and Beale, you can see his trauma and how he compensates for it in most of his scenes) Also as Callum grew up around the Carters seeing him and Johnny would have been good too. Alas it's Nancy (without Tamwar sadly) maybe in the future they'll bring Johnny back, although I prefer the one in this clip, not the other one.
