Just watched this and it bought back some memories from my time in Staffs Police having attended and passed the Standar, Advanced and Instructors motor cycle courses and subsequently enjoyed patrolling the county on a then new Triumph Saint.Other Police driver training centres were mentioned but Im sure Staffs was not mentioned and surely we still had one in the early to mid 70s?
Thank you for your comments. Best wishes. Ian.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~Great reading about your life in The Force. Sorry if we omitted the Staffs section. best wishes. Ian.
An6tho0ny, Great reading your comments and the bike you had with the kit and leather boots at that time. Thanks and very best wishes. Ian.
Hi Ian, I saw this video a few years ago and forgot to save it at the time when browsing the internet. I have been searching for it again for the last month and nearly thought I had imagined it! Myself and my family are the current owners of Wood Hall having moved in a few months ago now. I am in the process of starting to unravel the history of this house and also hope to document the changes over the years. I wonder if you might have any other content pictures or videos that might have the house in them even as a backdrop? Especially internal pictures or maybe you have some stories to share? I'm not sure if you still live in the area or even if you are still checking this channel but if you are it would be great to talk to you. Thanks, Atilla
The film shows the history of the house when my Father brought.it and shows the bad state the house was in. Sadly part of the grounds were sold for building long after my Father left.
Do you remember what year this was? Regards, Ian White.
Awesome - thank you for posting.
Yes! Things were very bad in Cardiff in winter of 1947. To get out of our house my Father had to dig through 6 feet of snow. My sister who was in the WRNS took hours to walk to the Cardiff Docks for duty. Water pipes were frozen etc. No good complaining as all in the same boat!
same principles apply, learn learn learn.
Cleaning that machinery looks like a dangerous job if you don't know what your doing
The lifeboat Duwks, became the yellow duckmarine at liverpool in the 2000s
I was born on the 20th of January that winter, in my grandparents' house because the ambulance couldn't get up the hill due to the conditions! Like you, I served in the RAF (1963-1987).
This weather was legend in our household, dad was just back from Israel, mum was working for The MET. They were living in Lewisham.
Such simpler, happy times they were, back in the 1970's. Spent many a happy day out, in the summer, at Southport back then. You wouldn't believe that it is the same place now. So sad how it was ruined.
You are experiencing a common phenomenon that has afflicted aging people since we were running round in loin cloths. You dont miss the way things were - you just miss your own youth. The old men in those clips from 1970s southport will have been pining for the 1930s, and no doubt the old men in those clips from 1930s Southport will have been pining for the Victorian days.
Hi, My Grandfather was the piano player in this audition, John Loxton, but he recently passed, would it be possible to get permission to play this at private functions? Thank you
You please yourself and enjoy. Ian.
We are very fortunate to have some important people who think nothing of filming the events of the day, many of us just can't be bothered, But thank god for people like your good-self.I wan't even born til a decade later.
Rob, Thank you for your comments; very much appreciated. Ian.
@@ianhorner8984 Likewise for the film ! great job.
Rob, A very kind and generous co9ment. Regards. Ian.
My fathers first cousin died in the the snows of 1947. He lived a few miles from Ardee (a small town in the County of Louth in Ireland) and was on his way home from the town when he got caught in a snow blizzard. They found his body the next day in the field in front of his house. It seems he got disoriented and couldn’t find his way out of the field. My parents would talk about the huge drifts of snow in some instances almost covering the houses.
I had the privilege & pleasure of being a member of the Team, from 1970 to 1976, and had just left the Royal Artillery when that was filmed. Great times, with some great friends.
Great ti hear from you and your life with the Team.. Best wishes. Ian.
I have a clear memory of this. I was 5 and we lived at King Cross. Each shop on the main road had cut a passage through the drifts to the shop door. It was higher than me on both sides.
Wow, what a piece of History, I've lived in Sowerby bridge all my life, my workshop is at the bottom of the Tower in the film , for the last 35years, dont know where the heck "Littletown" is though LOL, or the frozen lake?, great vid.
"Littletown" was the name of a farm house on the slopes of Luddenden. Ian.
I was there😂
Longships, not Lizard, Lighthouse, Hughtown, not St.Hugh's, and 28 miles, not 20. 😅
Thank you.
The year I was born,redcarnorth yorkshire
Helllo Mr Horner I Love your short film about that long ago snowy winter here in Halifax, may I ask where are the ice skating scenes shot ? Shibden park maybe? I am impressed that you reply to,and thank so many of the comments under the video. such a polite and well spoken gentleman,.I hope you are still well.
Alan, Thank you for your comments. A short family pierce of history. Best wishes, Ian.
Thank you for sharing this, I know I'll watch it again and again. As they say, "when times were far, far simpler if not happier". Who is the little boy enjoying such a wonderful holiday? I hope he went on to have a great and happy life!
Allan, Thanks fo your interesting comments. Yes it was I making a fool of myself. Regards. Ian.
Even back then. The Isles of Scilly had a flourishing cycling community.
It was probably all due to global warming
I was born in Halifax in 1948 so don't remember this but I do remember the winter of 1963 which was as bad. I had a morning paper round, I lived on Baines Street and can remember opening the front door, the snow had drifted to the full height of the door and fell in. It was the one time my dog didn't come with me, she dived out as usual, was buried and ran straight back in. Like all the other paperboys I did the full round every day during the white-out. I was based at Mr Grayson's paper shop at the bottom of Battinson Road, anyone remember it? I went to Trinity Secondary, anyone else there around that time?
Paul, A very interesting comment of your early days; Best wishes. Ian.
Thank you so much for putting that together. Seen so much I remember and how it used to be such a lovely family town.. Good clean fun. Wish people still wanted that.. it would be wonderful to have a place like that now. A bit of our tradition saved so that young kids (and old) could enjoy it too. Thanks for bringing back the memories though! All the best, J x
Jo Jo, I could not agree more. Regards. Ian.
Thanks for that Ian ! Fantastic video, I loved my times racing at the S100. My buddy Big Al sent me this video who lives in Castletown. I wonder what these guys would make of Davey Todd back in the day !!! Cheers ! 🤜🤛
