I played Ty the Tasmanian tiger 1 on Nintendo Switch and it was a great game to play and I enjoyed it. I am glad this game is getting its recognition because I believe this game is underrated and also a hidden gem.

I'm so glad this video hasn't aged well. It's outdated for all the right reasons, with the "long-cancelled Dread", Prime 4 being stuck in dev hell, and even Sakamoto being so obsessive over getting Metroid right. From what I've heard, Sakamoto reserved himself to have the final say on Dread and in my opinion that game handled its story super well.

Definitely the original Trilogy, although I want 1 and 2 the most, wish the Sly trilogy could also get ported to PC.

i can get why people dont like this game, but i think its one of the most fun games in the series. If i want to replay a ratchet game, i probably go to either this, rift apart or a crack in time.

I always felt bad for the monkeys in sims castaway in my head cannon you were making them slaves as they did work for you and got nothing in return, I never thought of them as pets 😅

What this has in come with Batman and Robin Adventures on the Sega CD is that both of them are written and animated as if it were a lost episode of a show the game is based on but the gameplay itself is an irritating mess

The game is definitely in an awkward predicament now that we do have Rift Apart and TBH, I think some of the vitriol may involve the strong possibility that Sony treats Ratchet more like a mascot series than anything else, now that a lot of Insomniac’s work as of late has been with Spider Man. I personally thought the movie was decent and this game is legit great, but this was a really interesting video diving into some of the budgeted decisions and how some things ended up the way they are.

Size matters was the first game in the series that i played when i first got my psp. It quickly got me interested and got me to buy the ps3 remasters and platinum them. So ill always have a soft spot for it

Hearing about Wonderbook here when the video first dropped was such a fun discovery. Fast forward a bit, and i managed to get the full setup and all 4 games for a little less than $100.

It's kind of funny to me that Sakamoto wanted to simplify the control scheme was to make it appeal to people who aren't into action games of that kind of style. I'm not much into action based games of this style but the reason for that has nothing to do with the overwhelming complexity but rather how mind numbingly repetitive a lot of them can get. Copy and paste variants of like 5 enemies at most, 2 maybe 3 dominant strategies, QTEs of plenty and barely much of an entertaining story for me are some of the most major issues I have for these types of games witch leaves a lot of them to be extremely boring to me unless I'm playing them on the hardest difficulty. This doesn't apply to every action game mind you, Devil May Cry games are one of the rare examples of me actually enjoying an action game for example but yeah...

One of my favorite details about the fight with the Fates taking place during GoW1's fight with Ares is if you let.the sword be destroyed. Past Kratos just looks at the empty space and gives up. There's also a mention to the Three Wise Men in one of the murals at the Temple of Fates I believe. Which is odd.

The funny thing is, Nefarious being a huge Secret Agent Clank fan really isn't that strange. Have you seen Star Wars and Lord of the Rings fans? With the way a good chunk of them act, you have to wonder whether they're even watching the same movie

Die hard classic God of War fan here. While this game is a test of patience, especially on God mode, I would actually say that there is a higher form of combat mastery and that would be the game’s exploits: 1) Quick rolling. 2) Magic/block-select-cancels for a higher DPS rate. 3) An exploit where you can get a +1 magic on top of having a full magic meter after opening a magic chest. I would consider this the highest form of combat mastery, as these exploits were in God of War II, as well. Great video, nonetheless, Golden Bolt! It’s about time this gem gets some recognition to the masses.

ps2 size matters was my first ratchet game

Because I played the original 3, I was able to mostly ignore the characterization, and general lack of production and plot quality in the story. Outside of not being able to skip Clank sections on replays and how short it is, this gameplay is DIALED IN. I bought a PS4 to play this game and as strictly a game, it really is great. Luckily I was able to rationalize the unreliable narrator excuse, and thought the terrible voice acting and facial animations were (maybe unintentionally) hilarious in a classic R and C way.

Small Brawl is a conflicting entity in the series. If you strip away the themes and look at the game from a purely mechanical perspective, there is a very solid game here. It’s just too bad that the wrapper doesn’t inspire you to eat the candy, if you will pardon the metaphor.

Ratchet from this game is the best ratchet IMO because of all his rough edges. Its like rush hour where the two leads fight like they hate each other all movie and then through all their experiences and hardships grow to understand and respect each other.

My hot take is that this series is perfect. A classic. And a childhood comfort. I like the fluidity of the gameplay, I've never encountered the same amount of fluidity in any other game so far. Lightness, you called it. Not unpopular in this fandom at all but I agree on Sly 2 being perfect. Or near perfect. What an extreme improvement over the first Sly. I agree that the biggest things that make it shine for me is the story, overworld / settings, gameplay and villains. Being able to lose or fail. This darker tone got introduced in Sly 2 and carried over to Sly 3. Which makes sense since the story was already a bit grim to begin with. Sly started out as a villain, then got repackaged as a hero whose entire bloodline got snuffed out. In a children's game. I play it as an adult and I still enjoy it. This game really has no age demographic. I stand by that. And I'm sure that Sly holds a lot of anger, survivor's guilt and resentment but he hides it so well under charm and charisma. He's an amazing character. So are Bentley and Murray. I wish the writing of Carmelita could've held a candle to the main trio but she was supposed to be a black and white cop, chasing Sly more out of having a crush than any real reason since he's a vigilante who performs good deeds and indirectly contributes to getting people arrested. Plus, he's often stealing things that A.) belong to him or B.) shouldn't belong to anyone at all. In Sly 2 and 3 she catches up slowly. This is a bit more unpopular, but rather than ranking the games Sly 2, Sly 3 and Sly 1 like others, I rank it Sly 2, Sly 1 and Sly 3 since I slightly prefer the writing of 1 compared to 3. But yeah, I agree with all of your points. Anyways. Masterpiece of a game franchise. Great video.

I love this game because it was the first RaC game I ever played. I remember playing it countless times when I was younger and it just holds so much sentimental value. I have just started playing the series from the original all the way to Rift Apart for the first time and I can see why people hate the remake. The original had much better character development and jokes and overall a better story even though it wasn't as fleshed out as the reboot. Even still the 2016 game continues to hold a special place in my heart.

Great job putting out the information regarding Santa Monica being a bit of a test bed for Sony to essentially standardize, for better and for worse, the various studios and groups in its conglomerate. It's a bit wild to see how the foundations for an industry-wide institution like playstation/sony comes from such an angry, and ambitious, project lol.

39:40 About this section on the homing attack, it's not necessarily because you have to hang in the air a bit, it's because Sonic has to be above the top of the next enemy. Which I guess translates to the same thing, but only when you're given those specific examples of Green Forest and Metal Harbor. In Metal Harbor, the enemies are all in a straight line with none really any higher than the rest, so you can continue the chain faster since you're already above them all anyway. In the Green Forest clip, you were also a bit too far for the jump dash to become a homing attack. I know no newcomer will intuit something like that though, and I also know I'm years late to the party 😅 Just wanted to let you know what was actually going on there.

Gow 3 and 1 are better. Gow 2 failed to improve over its predecessor,it has less stages,and a worse combat.

Wow, thanks for these retrospectives. I'm really glad you put in the effort to get to know the development history of these games. The stories that make these games are often tied to the dev teams that work on them, so hearing about the development history helps in reminding people of the human element that goes into making all these games. And honestly, it's just fascinating getting to know the struggles, and ultimately the achievement, of seeing a group of people get a project out. The 90s and 2000s platformer boom may have saturated the market, but it'd be a bit of lie to say that there weren't some ambitious and earnest creative attempts by many eager dev teams. Platformers are such an odd yet great opportunity to allow for a game's world to be explored and the attempts of that era, at least in retrospect, were admirable.

Fun Fact: Piracy was hard on Brazil during the Playstation and especially during the Playstation 2 era. The thing is, blank dual layered DVDs are pretty hard to come by, and so that compromised the piracy of Dual Layered DVDs, although it didn't stopped it. A common thing that people remember about God Of War II here is that they could never beat the game as it would hang just before the scene with Icarus. That actually meant that the pirate copy you had only had the first layer of the DVD on it, and you would need a Dual Layered copy or the second layer burned into another DVD, so you could swap the discs before the game hangs on that part and it could keep going.
