наполните этот форт ЛЮБЫМ количеством народа с любым оружием 100 летней давности - трехлинейками. а мне дайте пару гранат. и я знаю кто из нас выживет. поиграем?)

Beautifully done! I visited the fort last summer.

Last year I made my life-long bucket list to see the Belgian and French forts. My first stop was Fort Loncin. I was staggered by the violence that had destroyed the fort. I later visited Fort Loncin, essentially a twin, to see how menacing it was to the German army, and how the fort occupied a commanding presence in the area. I included the Maastricht forts in my visit. Walking along the top of Fort Aubin-Neufchateau, walking past bomb craters and broken concrete, we found an apple tree, full of delicious green apples. In my life of historical study and exploration, I have never seen such a contrast between the violence of man and the resilience and beauty of nature.

I love finding military ruins in overgrown areas. I explored the Verdun battlefield this past summer, keeping to well-worn paths and staying clear of dry moats and crumbling tunnels. I am too old for that. I had a great experience visiting Corregidor Island in 2001. A fellow tour member, from Australia and I set out to find the location of the narrow-gauge street car line car barn, which was quite overgrown. We set out through a thicket and, as he noted in his journal, "John Potter and I went looking for the railway car barn. John fell into a bomb crater and ripped his shirt off. We found the installation and John found a rubber insulator from 1910. Success." It was rather sudden, plummeting about 10' down through sharp branches, but I climbed out successfully and changed into a new shirt.

POZOR: explosives in the ground.

Interesting how Modlin went from French to Russian (Novogeorgievsk) and then captured by the Germans in1915. However, some of the structures, such as Fort XV, seem to have the same design as the Metz forts (concrete, caponier, etc.). Thanks for sharing this.
