Severe Service Knife Gate Valve Flow Direction
DSS Severe Service Knife Gate valves are bi-directional and can be installed in any direction. When wear rings are added, flow direction becomes more critical.
Let’s compare a standard build to one with a wear ring. For a standard build, the valve can be inserted in any direction with zero-leakage performance. However, the preferred installation is with the beveled edge of the gate downstream.
For a build with a wear ring, ensure the wear ring faces the upstream side to handle media impact.
In short, whether you’re installing a standard valve or one with a wear ring, keep the beveled edge facing downstream and you can’t go wrong.
