I got this big battery to try on the Chimera 7" LR. It's an OVONIC 5500mAh and it weight in at 760 grams. I pick as first destination what I believe was a fair distance for this type of battery to try out. However, the distance was not as much as I was t...

My O3 unit falls below 40mbs as soon as 1km. The farest I've gone is 1.2 km and it fell to 20mbs. In clear line of sight and using TrueRc xair-2 patch antennas in the goggles. Any recommendations for how I could get more range?
@@pl2fpv how about the antennas on the quad? And you need to make sure you are using the same polarization on the goggles and the quad's antennas. I wouldn't know to tell you what that is since I'm using the older system for which it is left hand polarisation. If I were to guess the goggles 2 uses liniar polarisation.
@@adventure_boy thank you, I use lhcp in both the goggles and the quad, truerc singularity in the quad and x-air-2 in the goggles. I also use the fcc ham file hack because I’m in the EU. But I think for some reason I’m still not getting full power from the o3. I’ll need to do more testing.
@@pl2fpv hm, that setup should work just fine. Unfortunately I don't have that much experience with o3, but wish you best of luck in your search.
Nice flight! I have tried once before, the best way to save battery power is hitting the disarm button. The 3000mah pack was all the weight and broke the fall😅
Is GoPro 6 still better than DJI camera unit nowadays? I thought everyone is ditching gopro for dji now. Especially if it's not the latest gopro.
@@spotLV ok, but which dji camera unit? The original air unit or the o3?
@@adventure_boy I'm just learning stuff, so I've got no idea, but I rarely see people mounting gopro on drones with dji units
@@spotLV would like to clarify a few things. There are the DJI consumers drones, like the Air3, Mini4Pro or Mavic3 that have very good cameras, even better than GoPro but for different purposes. Then there are the fpv drones that may use, what is now, the old air unit which is far less performant when compare to the gopros. But more recently this unit was upgraded to what is so called o3 system that is very comparable to GP. However it may have some limitations and still some will prefer a GP on top of drone. In my opinion the o3 is almost as good as the GP, but not quite there. However, if I were to have a small drone, like a 4", I would fly without a GP for more flight time.
@@spotLV hope this helps

Thank You. I fly 5" Quads with 6s 1100-1300mah. Your video gives me motivation to build a 7" and try a BIG ASS battery. It is time to try long range. Thank You.
Thank you too! This are some very nice words 😁 It is a lot of fun to fly long range, but be aware it's also a struggle to fine tune a 7". Best of luck !🤞
@@adventure_boy 7 inch is rough to tune if you have to do it manually, for most heavier 7 inch rigs the supafly 7" preset will work though. just make sure to use a higher end flight controller... the hard part is getting the GPS rescue to function properly. :/
@@greedfox7842 I'll give that tune a try too. So far I've tuned it manually, it does fly way better then the first fly, but still has oscillations. Yeah, GPS is a real pain to set. I've now installed BF 4.5 and what to fine it a try with the GPS.
@greedfox7842 I just tried the supafly7 preset today and indeed it fly better than before. How ever the GPS was not working anymore with this switch to BF4.5
Could've been done with a 5" and one Liion pack.
Absolutely. Even with a 4 inch and a lipo, so? But neither could carry a 5500 mAh battery and a GoPro, right?

@@adventure_boy yups but not too much, similar with 6s2p but 6s3p have more power..that's what i need cause so windy here. i'm not flight till my battery running out, just flight till i reach the top of mountain and come back.. my longest flight was 8,55Km and my higher altittude is 1,8Km.
That is long distance, quite impressive!
@@YosepAliSaputra at that point just use a big AF lipo. I use a 3300mah 6s on my 7" it buys me 25 minutes and has way more power in it.

Only li-ion bro!
:))
I've just bought these ,and I can't get more than 500 metres away , nor sire if the settings are right, any ideas mate ,❤your channel
That's strange. Are you using the 1200 mW hack/setting on the goggles? Are you facing the drone when flying? I have mine with the patch on the bottom side of the goggles and the stubs on the upper side. And finally, make sure the drone antenna(s) are properly fitted. On the same drone I had a crash and the inflight Albatros antennas have not been working properly afterwards. I have big delay and low range.
Nice. I would not guess 7" would handle it but good to know it does. 👍

I‘m looking forward to a trip to Norway with my fpv gear in July. In the meantime I posted two shorts with my new bird, an ANALOG Chimera 7 Pro V2. I want to go back to my roots when I learned flying fpv. Here is the first short to this bird : czcams.com/users/shorts5Sq3DS2xasA?si=ilQOdlO2_kMoqCKb I have some problems with the diversity receiver of my analog goggles. Glad you were able to find it, bat too bad it was run over. Were you able to fix it afterwards? Goregous. I need to find some pretty scenery to fly. Away from people. I am going to brazil. Going to bring the 5" though not the 7/8"
Thank you! well given the LR capabilities of your 5", I think it's the logical choice. Getting away from people can be difficult and, as it was in my case, it implies tacking along walk.
Long range Must have a solid GPS (and INAV) before heading out. Good OSD helps too. Looking forward to more adventures, Beautiful.
Thank you! 👍
I would never fly out of my LOS without GPS 😂
really? do you use GPS when you're flying your hang-glider?
@@adventure_boy Yes. I made a custom device includes GPS, barometer, G sensor, etc. It's OK to fly with a hangglider without any devices but your flight zone is pretty confusing everywhere looks same 🤣 Anyway, nice scenery 👍
yes, that was the terrifying part, that everything looked the same and was very hard to decide where to go. Anyway, the point I was trying to make was that I was accustomed to fly without GPS as I done it in several other areas, but always was familiarized with the surroundings, except this time where I immediately took off into the distance without knowing the area. But in my opinion, if you know an area, flew there before you can go easy without GPS. I've now flew here multiple times and know every corner of the area, every slightly higher tree or places where not to go.
shit happend ;)
But all is good when it ends good.
I always thought long range was at least 10-15 km. Here, by eye, there were only about 2 kilometers. And if you do fall somewhere in the forest, for such cases there is a GPS beacon or at least an autonomous beeper
Oh, thanks for letting me know, but be aware there are plenty of CZcams videos I've seen doing 3 - 4kms saying they are doing long range, please make sure you update them as well. As for the beeper, that is very useful indeed if you are able to reach the place your quad falls. I have lost another drone that had GPS and beeper, I know very well we're it is but it just not reachable by foot. So both GPS and beeper were pointless.
or just use a gps.
And if you don't have one?
@@adventure_boy don't fly long range.
@@carboncubss or, maybe a crazy thought, as I'm trying to suggest in the video, learn the surroundings first then knock yourself ;)
@adventure_boy using all the resources available in this hobby is the smartest thing to do. The obvious is that whenever anyone flies, they should learn and understand and know their surroundings before lift off. 😉
So cool. 😍
👍thanks!
Why record audio from the drone?
This is a question I don't see that often. Usually, but mostly in the DJI groups everyone is asking how to record sound from the drone, therefore I don't really get your question or the reason for asking. Maybe you can elaborate a little bit.
@@adventure_boy Sure...I don't see the point in placing a microphone onto a device that screams, whines or hums to the point that most drones do since the only sound that mic will likely be recoring is the sound of the drone. I can kinda get it for fpv freestyle guys who just love the sound of hearing the motors and props doing their job as they crank it through the moves...kinda. I find drone videos more enjoyable to watch with sounds that are added in later in post. Maybe it's just me, but I don't really care for the sound drones make and do see the point in recording audio from a drone, which is why I asked about doing it.
In my videos I sometimes leave the drone sound and sometimes not, depending on the scope of the video. When I go for some cinematic shots, like this one, czcams.com/video/7lGIJIq_0Aw/video.html, I take out the drone sound completely, because the focus is not on the drone, but the scenery. When I try to emphasis what the drone is doing, like in this case, then I leave the sound in, it's for better immersion into the act. And as you mentioned, some drone pilots, like those that run analogue actually have an earplug through which they listen to the drone sound live, helps them fly better. To me the sound of an FPV drone, makes sense, because it follows the movement the drone makes. In the end its a subjective thing, you can either like it or not.
Good catch, did you kill your battery or was it able to be revived?
Thank you! I was able to further use that battery after this flight, with no problems, but by now it's long gone.
don't you have gps installed in it?
Would it make sense me saying I don't know where home is if I had GPS?
My 5 inch can fly that long if I'm going easy
The furthes I went with my 5" was 2.5 km. That's as much as the battery holds.
That's impressive, with what battery?
@@adventure_boy I mean I could did it with my Rekon5 I built but it's. Long Range 5" it's designed for these short trips. I did few miles up mountain in Colorado. It's nice cause it's small and batteries smaller so easier for traveling
Impressive, a long range 5" quad sounds like a good idea, I mean the batteries for the 7" Chimera are just huge and heavy.
@@adventure_boy yea I have a 7" I turned into a 8". Got all these 4000mah li-ion I out together for 6s2p. And 6s2p 18650. A 6s4p 18650. I use separate packs to use plug to make 4p so I can fly with packs. Such a pain traveling by plane. My 5" fits in bag so much easier. Just need 6s1p 3000mah and then 6s 1300mah lipo can fly with hero 10 bones for over 10mins if cruising
im using that patch antena and i can go 2KM on top of the mountain, minimal drop in bitrate around 45-50mbps. good antenna for mid long range..
The furthes I went out with this setup was 6.5 km. I know it can go further bu tits a matter of finding a safe place to test it.
Where is your GPS pointing home arrow? or were you doing this all without GPS?
No GPS, flying by surroundings.
You drained the battery on the climb
I may have been to hasty.
Why would you launch a 4s at 15.2v? That is when I typically land them. My hope is you were just having a good day and decided to use your least spent pack for 'one more flight' and this is not common practice :-). I have lost a few aircraft that way, they linger 3.75-3.6 (per cell) for a while but then drop like a rock. Now I stay at or above 3.8v per cell (regardless of S), just bring more packs if you need them, batteries are cheaper than aircraft. Avoids puffing too so also saves on battery costs. Great save though!
Probably because it immediately drops to that voltage after take off. For most of the cruising my battery stay at around 14.8v, 14.5v, and because I was climbing I was not worried at all about the low voltage. It was my first run here, and first of the day, but also last because of the thrill. However, there must have been something off with the battery I can't tell because it did a total of 4 minutes if flight time, when I usually get 5 with no problems. Oh well, it lived to tell the story.
@@adventure_boy a fully charged 4s is 16.8v, there is no way you are dropping to 15.x right off the bat or you are buying extremely low-C batteries (I don't even think you can buy them that bad anymore), or your charger is set up incorrectly.
@@hotliner2872 I'm flying tattu fun fly 100c lipo batteries, don't know if those are the best or not, but surve the purpose I'm expecting of them.
Seriously ? Long range without gps and rth correctly configured, home direction and distance on osd. And cell voltage so you don't have to do maths while flying
Yes, as I'm trying to point in the video, you can do it very well when you know the surroundings. The reason I'm saying this is because I've done it many times before but in known places.
@@adventure_boy you can do long range without necessarily knowing the surrounding and this is where rth is handy
of course you can, I'm just stating my case. For my drone I have no GPS, and usually I have no problem with that, except this mistake I did as described in this video.
Lucky recover! Great place to fly ❤️ I’m pretty sure you did this by now, but with a gps module not only you can set GPS Rescue but can also set home direction ⬆️ and distance in OSD Tab.
Thank you, and indeed it's a great place to fly, I've now returned here many times and by now I know the area very well. I now have GPS on another drone, and it proves not always useful but that is for another video.
@@adventure_boy definitely, nothing in this life is infallible, but you do have a lot less chances of losing you equipment with a gps module than without, especially for LR. The new M10 chips are great and lock more than 20 sats in seconds. Stay safe🤙🏼
need a test for at least 10 km
That would be something to test indeed, however was not able to find a spot where I could go so far, yet.
before i fly far somewhere im not sure land around i wait for GPS to establish connection for home point and when i go back i just follow home direction on OSD, if you have GPS i recommend use that to navigate when you fly far, that way you always know where you should head
I have no GPS on this drone, was never a problem before as I usually learn the surroundings. But in this case I was to eager to fly in this new place and didn't check around.
@@adventure_boy yeah this trees around look scary with this voltage you had, glad everything end up well
@@bezimienny_fpv yeah, I was also very happy I could tell the story with GoPro footage and not only from goggles. Anyway, it was a lesson learned and never had problems ever since.
Can you gain altitude, slip the goggles up to see your orientation with the mountain to get a better idea where home is
I'm not sure it would have worked. I mean it sounds like a good idea, but I had no idea about the place around me especially how it looked like from above. But I haven't tried so really not sure, maybe it would have worked. Thanks for the idea 👍
do not fly far away without gps this is the only stupid mistake that can be done with flying long range. be sure your gps works accurate and rth is working well.
I had no GPS on this drone, but flew long range with it quite a lot. Point was, I never flew here before and I didn't knew the area.
