I think vietcive vontrl is underestimated as a source of physicals and emotional violence. It is so common and so destructive. In many ways it is much more damaging than physical violence. It is typically emotional abuse leading to people feeling worthless and therefore more vulnerable. Coercive control is much more typically a male trait and often associated with males resisting losing traditional control and position in the family liding co in a kire inclusive society.

As a person who livd through the Vietnam war as a young adult it is very pleasing to see the final recognition of our soldiers in that war. They returned to public abuse and condemnation. This was an unpopular war.. it was a pointless war. Nevertheless many of our soldiers had no choice. They were conscripted on a ballot system . Many of my friend’s died or were injured. Many ran from the military police to avoid going, many did physical harm to themselves in order to be seen as unfit for service . But the point is this… our soldiers fought, suffered and died. They had no choice. They deserve our respect and thanks and apologies.
