Kate Bush - The Infant Kiss (fan-made video) - widescreen version
I made this video back in 1984 originally on VHS as a project to learn how to edit videotape. The song "The Infant Kiss" on Kate Bush's album "Never for Ever" was based on the film "The Innocents". I managed to get a tape of the film from TV, and made this video. The video appeared on a fan video collection I edited later and it wound up posted on CZcams by Gaffahead. Later, the film came out on DVD, and I made a widescreen version. Since then, CZcams has allowed higher resolution and true widescreen resolution. So this is the highest quality version I've ever made. Until the film is shown on an HD channel or comes out on BluRay, this will have to do.

I find it amazing how similar their singing is to many traditional forms of African singing - the harmonies, phrasing, rhythms...its awesome! I can imagine this traditional music surviving millennia as humanity migrated from Africa all over the planet, the styles changing with the newly developing cultures, many being lost to time, but others surviving the ages to today.
I was watching that evening, and became an instant fan.

I guess that's why Dr. Hook didn't have a brilliant career as a journalist. The guys were so busy talking amongst themselves that they forgot to ask Kate any questions, and didn't even allow her to even speak really. Video interviews with Kate are so rare that this just seems like a missed opportunity.

Such a powerful performance. Bluebeard gave her the chance to let all her anger and frustration out, and watching and listening to her vent in this live performance, just gives me chills.
It's amazing to me that the most mainstream and popular of television programs was airing 7 mins of this exceptional quality and yet foreign and unusual music to its viewers. It seems that big media then understood and respected quality a bit more than it does now. Imagine 7 minutes of uninterrupted anything on television these days.
