    How did you get so comfortable with spin entries? Are there any tips or tricks to make it feel a bit easier to start a spin

    • @amyleesuits
      @amyleesuits Před 3 měsíci

      It's funny you think I'm comfortable with them bcus I think it's one of my weak points. I just worked on drilling the edge. over and over and trying to get as deep as possible and just holding that edge even if im not doing the spin Also find the entry that works better for you/is consistent, some people do crossovers to the spin entry, some people do inside 3 turn. I just do an outside edge and step forward into it thats whats most consistent for me because I'm bad at inside 3 turns and the crossover entry fails me every time haha

    • @vivonco
      @vivonco Před 3 měsíci

      In my opinion its also a repetition thing. At the start of the season i had to relearn all of my spins on my other foot since i spinned in the wrong direction. I was so uncomfortable with the spin entries, they where so shaky and unstable, but the more i did them the better they got and today im doing them like its the most normal thing i could do on the ice. So keep doing it, it will get better!

    You progressed SO fast! I think your roller skating skills did translate as far as stability and your flexibility. Why did you have to get new skaters after the ice flys? I was thinking of getting ice flys this year

    • @amyleesuits
      @amyleesuits Před 4 měsíci

      I agree as I was able to start learning three turns and one foot glides right away and I dont think I would have been able to had I not roller skated first! And as far as flexibility Ive always been practicing that my whole life as I like being flexible, did ballet growing up too I answered why I went from edea to risport in another comment somewhere, basically I was having foot pains but I do see myself trying out edeas again nothing against them but the shop recommended risport for my foot shape

    What would you say was the biggest difference when you moved to your edeas?

    • @amyleesuits
      @amyleesuits Před 4 měsíci

      There was a lot more space around the ankles, it almost felt like I didn't have support, but I got used to that and ended up liking it. Also the heels were a different height but I can't remember if they felt higher or lower than my Jacksons, I just remember it took some adjustment to be able to spin again without scratching the toe picks

    • @HotelEdenMusic
      @HotelEdenMusic Před 4 měsíci

      That's really helpful, thank you! And yeah, I think the heels were probably higher (I've got Jackson Artiste men's and have heard that).

  • @CaraMarie13

    Very inspiring. I wish i could practice more but the ice rinks in my area only have public sessions either on thr weekend or during work hours or freestyles only. Like i learn a new sensation each time on the ice. Am just hoping i can improve enough in the next 11 months to get into the freestyle sessions so that i can go in the morning before work a good four days a week. I hate the public sessions. Those hockey kids are horrible.

    Question, why did you switch out from Edeas to Risport? I ask cause like... Edeas aren't cheap, so I'm sure it wasn't a random decision, did something happen to make you switch??

    • @amyleesuits
      @amyleesuits Před 4 měsíci

      Yes... well, I was naive to get ice flys so early on and so inexperienced. Definitely over booted myself😂 Long story short, I was having some pains after using them for a while. According to a pretty well known orthotics shop I visited in Houston, I needed a boot that would work better for a high instep/high volume foot. If you google "high instep" you'll see what I mean! Since switching, I still have heel pain but the other issues I was having have gone away, so it's a process but I think I'm slowly getting closer...

    • @nikivenus12
      @nikivenus12 Před 4 měsíci

      @amyleesuits thank you so much for taking the time to respond. I want to buy my own pair of skates, and for a while, I was considering ordering online, but I learned of the possibility of overbooting, so I ended up deciding to actually get for them instead. Once again, thank you, and best of luck in your journey!

      @@nikivenus12NO. Dont buy online. For one, having a pro taking a look at you in the boots is very much needed (i had 2 boots that looked good for my skills on paper, but 3sec in one of them and he was "no, no stability". And most good boots come with heat moulding, so you basically put them in a special oven and then it forms to your feet better. And that needs to be in store. (And as for insoles.... there are lots of places that offer costum made ones, so you could get some lift there as well if needed

    i’m currently in ur february-march place 🥲 i took lessons as a kid for a longgg time until covid and i recently js started again, what r some of ur tips-especially for spinning bc i always end up leaning forward and the spins tops due to my toe pick

    • @amyleesuits
      @amyleesuits Před 4 měsíci

      I had this same issue! I recommend practicing more backwards skating without scratching your toe picks. For the longest time I couldn't skate backwards properly because my weight was too far forward. try to find the spot more in the middle of your blade, just behind the ball of your foot. That's actually too far back since we normally spin on the rocker, but getting used to skating farther back will help us get off the toe pick when spinning.. (Coach julia on youtube made a video about this I think it's in one of her Q&A's about spinning.)

      @rickr530 Před 4 měsíci

      @@amyleesuits That's really impressive, and also encouraging. I'm terrified to see myself skate because I know I feel cool and look lame, but that would also be very powerful motivation to improve any bad posture or habits I see from that vantage point. I saw a hockey player stick a gopro on the glass with a suction cup, and actually that would be a pretty good way to film myself.

    • @amyleesuits
      @amyleesuits Před 4 měsíci

      @@rickr530 I can’t tell you the amount of times a kid has knocked down my phone at the rink, so gopro sounds like a smart idea! Many rinks also offer Livebarn. (A subscription where you can access the footage of the rink) its not high quality but its still super useful.
