"The search for perch" : Jigging on the River Bure, Horning
After a few succesful perch fishing sessions using worms as bait I was keen to get back to the lures and try and catch some using lures, so I got the lure box together and headed over to a new venue - Horning.
The river running through Horning is the River Bure, a river I have fished several times, but its a different stretch with different scenery, different features and different challenges.
Here's some footage of my session on the River Bure at Horning trying to tempt a few perch using lures.

Perch fishing with the Tronixpro HTO Stinkpot paddle tail lures

I have read a lot about scented lures and, from what I have read, there are a few anglers that swear by them however the majority of anglers seem to write them off as a waste of time. I haven't had much to do with the scented lures so when I saw some Tronixpro HTO stinkpot paddle tails for two quid a pop I had to buy some and try them for myself. Did I catch with the scented HTO paddle tail lur...
Finally get to fish Wroxham road bridge on the River Bure

The stretch of the River Bure in Wroxham has become my "go-to" location to hone my perch fishing skills, and whilst it is always possible to get a spot on the river at Wroxham getting a spot near the road bridge is nigh on impossible. The road bridge is the first swim to be occupied, but given many anglers consider this to be "the" swim to be in, and rumoured to hold perch in excess of 2lbs in ...
"Search for perch" - Another session on the River Bure, Wroxham rail bridge

Even though my last session on the River Bure at Wroxham rail bridge fishing for perch was my most successful to date I still missed far too many opportunities for my liking. With this in mind I decided to return to the rail bridge swim in order to (hopefully) hone my skills. Perch fishing in Wroxham - Smashed it! (at last......)

I have read many reports from other anglers claiming of catching loads of perch in a session. By loads of perch I mean 20 fish and even more. Catching plenty of perch in a single session was something I aspired to and something I wanted to achieve, and now I have. Yep, on a recent session on a stretch of the River Bure in Wroxham I smashed it and caught (by my standards) plenty of perch. I was ...

Perfect for shots in the mountains, where I can cature the whole scene or just one mountain top. It's only the pedantic locals that refer to this side of the Bridge as Hoveton - everyone else calls it Wroxham.

    Clearly the AD200 is meant to be between speedlight size with more power like studio strobes without the much higher cost associated. As new product lines come out, sometimes new systems come with that. Including triggers.. If you don’t need the power of a strobe, but speedslights are not enough... the ad200’s are perfect for staying more mobile. No one is forcing you to take everything with you. Sure it’s annoying to need different batteries with different chargers. Buy a second battery if you really think you are going to run out on a regular basis. And adding a trigger for each ad200 would be dumb..sorry. I Personally use serval ad200’s and I rather buy 1 good working trigger for that system then have more than 2 laying around in a box. Especially if the trigger aren’t cheap at all. Investing in a system is a gamble, sure. You can still use “older” flashes with the current X system.

    Hi Due to the cold weather I would recommend drop shotting and not jigging as the perch are very lethargic. I haven't caught any perch jigging as they are not looking to chase lures. They want it on there nose. But I have caught all my perch on the drop shot over this cold period. I am virtually leaving the lure static in the water with only the slightest of twitches. And fishing about 3-4 inches deep But you have to find the perch first as they will be in deeper warmer water. Also I'm using a fox rage micro fry 4cm cut in half. This is working for me on my canals I am fishing. But it is getting hard to first find the fish. Tight lines.

This option only became available after I had my 905 serviced - I can only guess the bike shop forgot to do something after they had hooked the bike up to the computer. I am reluctant to get the 905 serviced again - just in case the option is removed when I get it back. There must be a "hack" out there to increase the top speed. I think the top speed is higher in the US than the UK, which is why it is restricted in the UK.

    Nice video mate! Im not to surprised you didn't catch a big one due to the fact that they are alot smarter and wiser than the average perch in the shoal. To catch one takes alot of time and effort. Iether you get lucky and manage to snag a good one with the worms or you purposely target the bigger ones. I suggest going on a pike/perch session using sprats. My pb perch (3lb 10 Oz ) was caught on a twitched sprat. Lures will let you access the chance to a big perch but mainly I think it's where you fish that will ultimately decide wether you catch a big one or don't. Try the river wensum, it holds some very nice specimen perch. On that river, I would suggest using a twitched sprat or lures. The fox jigs caught me many good perch last season, I use the ones that look like they're hairy( can't remember Their names!). I cast them parallel to the marshes/reeds and slowly jig them. I even caught a 12 lb pike using this method but normally you get small jacks and decent perch. Please give it a go!!

    • @1yackers
      @1yackers Před 5 lety

      I am reluctant to use deadbaits because of increased chances of catching pike, and I am really after the perch this year. The only parts of the Wensum I know are through the centre of Norwich. Do you know of any places away from the city centre? I have the "hairy" Fox lures in 3cm, 6cm and 9cm and have yet to catch a thing on them. I am really struggling with lures - which is something I need to work on ver the next few months before the end of the river season.

    • @fis4357
      @fis4357 Před 5 lety

      @@1yackers if you're struggling with lures I would suggest using slightly heavier gear. I use an American baitcaster reel with braid and a 20 lb spinning wire trace(just in case I snag a pike), this works well because it allows me to Jerk the jig effectively and let's me cast very close to the reeds lining the bank. I've caught most of my perch using this method. I also favour this outfit because I can walk along the bank whilst jigging my lure this drastically increases my chances of hooking up with a big one because most big perch are hiding close to the bank, ready to ambush there prey.

    Looks a very nice place for fishing. Just a quick tip for you, try using a drennan inline olivette with a number 6 or 8 shot as a stop. This way you have no resistance from any weight so it's free running. But you are still able to keep a tight line to your bait. As this helps in further bite detection. The olivettes come in different weight sizes. It is a method I use a lot for perch fishing with worms. Works a treat for me.

    Could you tell us about your wormery?

    • @1yackers
      @1yackers Před 5 lety

      It's just a basic 3 layer plastic wormery from Worm City. I looked in to making one myself, but by the time I worked out the cost of the raw materials, the time it takes (my DIY skills are terrible), the likely success rate and worm mortality rate it seemed better value to buy a pre-made wormery and everything to go with it. My wormery is only 18 days old so it is not yet established. The blurb I got with the kit suggests it will take 3 - 4 weeks for the wormery to get going. Consequently, I have basically left the worms alone other than to add some more newspaper and a handful of food to let them settle in. I don't appear to have had many escapees (the wormery is currently in the garage because of the winter temperatures) so hopefully they are happy and will start breeding soon.

    It's good to see you catching fish. Worms are almost guaranteed to get perch when all other methods fail. Have about a 3 foot length leader. You don't want to have it to short. With the uni knot you shouldn't really have any problems with it catching the rod rings, as long as you trim the tag ends really close to the knot. I use a Daiwa gekkabijin 7ft rod for my drop shotting and light lure fishing. Never had any issues with the knot catching on the rings. Tight lines.

    Have you tried anything in a really bright yellow or orange colour? it really seems to trigger the perch. I like to use brightly coloured shads/spinners to find the perch first and then target them with the drop shot. I also agree with the previous comment about finding structure, its better to spend a few minutes in the right place than several hours in the wrong one.

    • @1yackers
      @1yackers Před 5 lety

      I have always kept away from the really bright lures and always stuck to subtle and natural colours. As for structures, there are a few on the Broads but not that many.I read somewhere about using one of those castable fish finders to seek out sunken snags that are out of sight, but I can't justify the expense of the sonar and the additional kit needed (strong rod, large reel, strong line etc.) to use it.
