Dear, Jaws, thank you for your production on this video. I always learn something from the other rockers Who take the time and effort to make these videos. For example, I have been using gorilla glue with strong success. I never heard of sodium silicate before. The product “Unhesive“ is an expensive, and it successfully allows the gentle separation of the material from the wooden block. A precision saw such as the J2 that you and I use makes for a cut as thin as 2 mm. That’s just wonderful for the ladies who want a feather light earring.
Hiya Scott, awesome video and very informative. I just wish I had a saw that I could try those ideas on. I hope you have a awesome blessed day. Cya! 😺🐟 out!
Dear Catfish, just keep watching the craigslist, the marketplace, and your local publications. There are saws out there by Highland Park, like the J2 that were so incredibly well-made that they are still running, 50 years down the path. Very reasonable and well worth keeping in service.
I use the water glass method, have had one come off and it was my fault for not getting the stone properly cleaned before gluing. I'm a bit surprised at the size or thickness of your chunks of wood! I haven't used anything thicker than a 2X4. Personal choice, what works for you. I only have a 10" slab saw, anything larger I go to my club and use their larger saws. My curiosity is in you way of slabbing obsidian, do you cut parallel to the layers or at a roughly 30 degree angle to the layers? Have you done both? Questions questions, I know. I purchased some rainbow obsidian from you around December last, just recently started on it and there is some nice material, so thank you for that. Cheers.
I like the 3x3 (from used pallets) and 4x4s (scrap from other projects). Kind of odd to have a other guy say about being surprised at the size and thickness of my wood....nevermind... Anyways to continue, for the obsidian, I cut them at nearly any angle I want, depending on what I see, it can range from nearly parallel with the lines to about 20°. Just depends on what the chunk is showing at the time it is first to go in the saw. I am glad you are happy with the obsidian you bought from me, there are some truly cool pieces!
@@1JawsJr 🤣🤣 Thank you, next time I'll give "Wood Size" a little more thoght.
8:33 bro building a nether portal
Get every cut you can ..👍
I use Elmer's school glue, never had a stone come off. Also water soluble. Only issue came from wood that cupped.
Nice to know. Thanks! Do you know if the sodium silicate is the same kind that they use in the scientific realm? It sells for $45 for a gallon.
I believe it is the same... I should go and get the sodium silicate that is sold at the big box stores and see how that works, should be just fine.
Nice demonstration!
Thank you!
Amazing stuff!🎉❤
I love working all this material and I have learned so much more about this since I made the video.
I've been on the Puyallup and White Rivers before, and I rarely find anything worth taking home. Like you said, we get pickier as we stay in the hobby. ^^
It reminds me of the Dungeness river where I live.❤
Hiya Scott, awesome video, sorry I didn't get to see your video sooner, I've been fishing a lot because of all the rain we've been having, but on another note, what a awesome place you have found. You didn't have to adventure very far too pick up a lot of beautiful stones, hot rocks are fun to pick up and use for tumbling and making jewelry. What a beautiful spot over looking a lake or river at your camp site, and I know you drank some of the water coming out of the spring, it looked pretty tasty and cool. I hope you and the Misses, have a awesome blessed day. Cya! 😺🐟 out!
rock at 1:00 maybe white crazy lace agate w/jasper or copper
Well done!😊
i think I know where your at i have half a bucket from there
I have about 100 pounds or more of agates from the Ochico mts. Found them just like you, I walked around, my mom sat in a pit and dug and hubby was digging in a wall. I found the smalls like you, mom found quite a large one covered in crystals and hubby found a large blue agate about 20 pounds! It was such a fun trip. Would love to go there again.
Great video. I’m about 90% blind Going to hit glass butte this fall before I lose my last 10% of vision. Hope I find some good stuff. Thanks.
Crazy Beautiful Jasper!
Tony Funk is a blessing to Idaho Rockhounds. I do business with him and am lucky to be able to do so. If you visit Sw Idaho you haven’t t seen it without stopping at Tony’s. Idaho Rocks and Gems is just as good in Boise too!!!
What do you mean by healed?
Over the years silica water worked its way into a crack and filled it in, healing the fracture. a very long and slow process.
Oh man, i need some of that. Love it!
if you are serious about wanting some Davis Creek Rainbow Obsidian, email me at 1jawsjr@gmail.com
🐞What city and state. Thanks.

Sure brought back good memories! I am surprised you didn't have a spray bottle to brighten up those rocks.
I wanted all of you to see them as they were in the bins and on the ground, so I chose not to spray them. Plus holding the camera and holding a rock would have meant a third arm and hand and I have yet to have grown one. :-)
Fun looking over your shoulder. I really like it when you stop to pick up slabs, etc. Thx again
Looks kinda like my backyard, except for the price tags.
Thank you for sharing. my wife and I plan on going in there. this summer,. I kind of wish you had a spray bottle to spray them down..🙂
I've known about Richardson's Ranch for over 60 years, seeing ads or articles years ago in the Lapidary Journal. Have only been in OR once over 40 years ago but not near their location. Can only fit so much into one's vacation when one's traveled by car from CT onward to Northern CA and eventual return to CT, all within a month. So much to do & see, with a little rockhounding along the way.
So I have a 1996 jeep grand cherokee and I've replaced on in a 2000 oldsmobile bravada but that had Security deleted on the new pcm... with that being said dose the jeep have to be programed or security anything or can I just get a pcm from junk yard and replace it
Love that place.... Always take a drool rag with me....😂😎
Thanks for sharing, good day to you and the Misses. The red and color of these rocks are amazing. You two are always on the hunt. Safe travels ❤
This place used to a lot of fun. The owners have let it go.
Hiya Scott, awesome video and beautiful stones. And the prices aren't too bad either. I hope you and the Misses, have a awesome blessed day. Cya! 😺🐟 !
i wish they would re up on a new batch of king cobra jasper ... sunch a beautiful stone is you find a nice piece
What river is this and where?
I stayed in a tiny motel in Mitchell OR 30 years ago and the town looks EXACTLY the same as it did 30 years ago.... Just crazy! Awesome tour as always 🎉 happy 4th Scott 🎆
Cutting rainbow obsidian for the first time thanks for the great info!
I’m new to rockhounding and also have a desk job. Was this close to the road or did you have to hike a ways? I have no idea where to go in the ochocos!
We were well off any roads, and it was beyond a hike to get to this area. I went up a couple of very steep hills. But that is the key to this area, get out of the rig and off the roads.
Hiya Scott, What beautiful Petrified wood, simply beautiful.
Hiya Scott, sorry to hear about your friend, prayers for him and his family. That's a cool place to go if you're looking for thunder eggs, all the work has been done for ya. That place has had to been working on building the side of the mountain for years and years, that's a lot of rocks. I hope you and the Misses, have a awesome blessed day. Cya! 😺🐟 out!
I'll stop in and check it out. Headed to Pineville in 3 weeks. Sorry to hear you lost a friend.
That's so awesome, it even has bark on it.
How beautiful all of this is. Also Scott I have changed my handle for reasons, I was the one your wife pulled my name and won the Cab from Depoe Bay! Still watching your travels… Just a different name. Good Day.❤
I am glad you are still here watching!!!!
Hopefully their luck turns around for them, they are a great family and deserve the best .... Lucky Strike eggs are awesome... Beautiful material and area...... Their Dad made it happen...
Neat spot! I need to go there!
Talk about Thunderegg heaven! Lucky Strike Thundereggs are my favorite Thundereggs.Michael Vandyke gave me some. Thanks for putting information in your video. I am going to give them a call. When is the best time weather wise to go to Oregon? I need to get out there.
Mid-late September if the fires are not putting out too much smoke, April May is good but snow in higher elevations.
I went there oonce and found some nice eggs
Beautiful.....very beautiful
