After MASH the movie I noticed the dramatic change that was made in the series. I never liked the series. Hawkeye was waaaay over played, religiously. Alda got what he wanted. He was over played and over sold. For me it ruined the show in very first series year. The original movie was MASH for me.

Again, there are MISTAKES in this script Burghoff is NOT the only actor from the film who was asked to do the series. I talked to Fred Williamson, and he stated that ALL the actors from the film were asked to do the series. Williamson was not interested in a series. Timothy Brown was in both rhe film and series. So was Corey Fischer and G. Wood. Burghoff and Wood played the same characters. Timmy played Williamson's character, and Fischer played a new character. PLEASE do NOT rely on Google as your sole source of information. Otherwise, a good look at a terrific series.

My grandpa (God rest his soul!) loved MASH but refused to watch another episode after they killed off Henry Blake.

Willie Wonka, one of my absolute childhood favorite movies. Best movie.

Looking at it now, Hawkeye was the human version of Bugs Bunny.. the wisecracking smart-aleck. As for Gary Burghoff, he'd sub for Charles Nelson Reilly on Match Game. He never shut up.. Loretta Swit said of him he was always complaining about something. Seems he was simply a nuisance. What McLean and Wayne won't say is they left for starring roles in their own shows.. which lasted one season each.

When the original cast started leaving Alda began basically seizing power and it became the Alan Alda Show. That's when I stopped watching.

As much as I love the show, the lack of African-American characters in the show itself. I knew immediately they had to get rid of the spear chugger Jones character because it was so blatantly racist and outrageous. But the absence of African-American characters makes it seem like you were absent in America at that time and didn’t really serve any capacity.

I "LOVED" RAIDAR!!!! I watched m.a.s.h. was because RAIDAR. THE Other was Klinger!!!

You are entitled to your negative comments but the popularity still today proves you wrong. The show has more meaning if you’ve been in the military. The final episode broke all records and still holds.

If anybody had a reason to leave it was Larry Linville. What a humiliating role. I'd be sick of it too. He was known as one of the nicest guys in showbiz.

Alan is really stuck up. He believes most people are beneath him.

From a human and career standpoint, I can understand actors, wanting their character to have a more substantial role in dramatic series. It makes sense that they want to spread their wings show up their acting chops and attract attention to themselves for future work in the industry. What bothers me, though is the work ethic of these actors. When you’re hired to do a job and your job has certain parameters set by the vision of the writers and the producers of the show you’re supposed to be the person to fill that slot. You have , no input into the character other than the way you present yourself in the way you deliver the lines THEY have written for the character. I imagine reactor is thrilled to be chosen to be in a series then quickly become irritated when they don’t have a starring role.

Episode 100 of the podcast "MASH Matters" has a very interesting and revealing old, taped interview with MacLean Stevenson with insights as to why he left the show.

Alan Alda was a putz

Polanski a great artist, thank god he was able to get away that over zealous judge, and go on to make so many great movies

Mash was not good when it became the Alan Alda Show. Except for a few episodes here and there, the first three years were the best.

Frank Burns made that show. He was by far the funniest character, and when Larry Linville left, M*A*S*H became boring and insufferably preachy.

This segment should focus on Mr. Polanski's "Criminal Act" & not about his life story & hardship growing up & all the succes of making movies as a director! Absolutely (Appalling!) 😠😡

Alda never quite figured out the ethos of the show. The show was based on an ensemble cast. But Alda wanted to be the center. I watched every episode in its original airing. And after the first season, Alda became insufferable.
