I'm on a journey to put a comb through all of the intricacies of driving - right from the very first moments of learning to drive, through to becoming a confident and competent driver in all road and traffic situations. Every week, I discuss and demonstrate driving techniques, strategies, tips and tricks, and more. I want you to have the knowledge and the skills to apply it. I teach best practice. Sometimes you just need someone to take something that seems hard and break it down into a language that you can easily understand. Book Paul Fisher ➡ www.riodrivingschool.co.uk

6:30 at the start of this road you’re asked to pull of to a safe location. I made the mistake of pulling up at the start parking opposite the dentist. But at this time stamp where the van is, in those parking bays are we allowed to park there?
Absolutely.
Got my test in weeks time gonna be banging these videos they are really good will update when I do my test
Cheers for all of the test route videos. Was very useful
Glad you found them useful 🙏
14:00 and 16:43 what should the minimum speed be because they’re similar country roads the second road aka the second time stamp its more rough in terms of pot holes whats the minimum speed you can get away with as its national speed limit. My issue is with gear change and being told off for not driving the national speed limit if that makes sense so I can’t multi task in terms of navigating and speeding up on these roads. Any advice? Could you make a video regarding this?
It's a difficult question to answer, because you are expected to drive to the road and traffic conditions. IF you are holding up traffic by driving too cautiously, you would potentially get a SERIOUS fault. If you have a concern about this, I'd say to the examiner, 'I know it's a NSL road here, but I'm taking it a little bit slower due to the rain/lack of vision/pot holes...' that way, they would know you know what you're doing 👍 doing a video on this is a superb idea. Thank you. I'll try to get it done ASAP
@@RioDrivingSchool I use to watch your video’s for the routes now it’s more about watching the skills of the learners and how you correct them. Literally had a bad mock test today on this very route and I felt like I’m pressured to go higher gears and it makes me forget all other things I should be aware of. I think I’m the worst driver ever being told off*. Honestly I feel bad always commenting because I try to communicate to the instructor about these things and I’m told off more. I feel rushed on mock test routes especially today but thank you for the tip I will mention this for the test coming up if they chose this route. But your explanation makes allot of sense. Thanks and keep up the amazing vids Paul.
Where are you based?

I have a few Instructors over there who might be able to help you out if you need a fresh pair of eyes on you 👍
Well done Hannah and the funniest ADI part 2 I have ever seen lol. I'm now waiting for my ADI part 2 which is (On hold)
Watch the one she did in Lichfield. 🤣👍
Mobile Christmas Tree 😂
Pls how can i take a mock test with you?
Did she pass her test? I hope she did. My test is on Friday in Lichfield, and I'm feeling nervous. Your videos are so helpful for familiarising myself with the road. Thank you
Yes! She passed first time!! Zero faults!! 🙏
@@RioDrivingSchool Amazing! Chuffed for her - she is fun. :) Is Lichfield normally busy in the morning at 8am?
@@MH-ef7oj anywhere sill be busy at 8am. Think of kids going to school and people getting to work. Best avoided if possible, but certainly OK if you're a confident driver!
@@RioDrivingSchool I am just thinking, as it's half term then should be less busier? I am keeping my fingers crossed - thank you.
@MH-ef7oj definitely reduced traffic. I hope you've experienced heavy traffic flow, just in case 😉👍
16:00 When I went on this route this week instructor stated because its a stop sign the car should’ve been stopped with handbrake and neutral then assess to turn left. He said it was a serious fault for not doing that. I done the exact same thing just as her brake clutch down into first and assess left and right before turning left and moving off. Question is it a fault for not stoping at the sign with a handbrake and putting the car into neutral? He said the examiner would see it as a serious fault.
You have to STOP the car at the line. All 4 wheels must stop. You do not have to apply the hand brake or select Neutral.
21:55 cars were on your side, would you not of failed for not giving way to that skoda? the only reason i can see you not giving a fault there is because it was over a hill you just seen them and you were going fairly quick and itd be abrupt to brake maybe?
He was fully committed when he saw the car approach, and could only pull over when there was space to do so. No fault recorded. 👍
So appreciative of these videos began watching these talk through videos and watched this yesterday passed my test 1st time today really recommend these videos to anyone doing this first time 🎉
Congratulations 🎊 I am very pleased for you! 🙏
4:55 where should she have pulled over. I’ve been told its a serious fault for the same mistake during my mock test. I was frustrated because at the time I didn’t know where else I could park on this road when going up the hilly road junction. Should she have parked before the hill or after somewhere after the parked cars?
When an examiner asks you to oull over you can take your time and find a suitable location. In this particular case, I would of travelled further up the road, past the junction on the right.
@@RioDrivingSchool 7:14 shes turned into the junction on the right but where specifically is it allowed for your to pull over
@zedzino11 at 7.14 as you say, she has turned right on to Eastern Avenue. An examiner would not be asking you to pull over there.
@@RioDrivingSchool I understand what you mean now I realised that its not a place to pull over but would this road at 11:06 would that be a good time to pull over to the left? Because you said when its safe to do so because this is a quiet road would it be ideal to pull over there? Also, could you add timestamps for major and minor faults in the description or on the video and can the explanation’s that are on the screen can they be added to the description. I personally think it would help. Thanks
Great video
Thank you! 👍
Just found your channel and I love the relaxed style of your teaching, thanks for making these videos.
Awww bless you. That comment has made my day already. Thank you 😊
Thanks for these videos Paul they’re really helpful for the build up to my test. Quick question, around 24:25, is the correct procedure to stop at the first solid white line perpendicular to the road or should you stop in the area before the cycle lane if the light is on red?
Hello Joel, if the lights are on red, you stop at the first stop line just as I did on the video at 24.28. This is the correct procedure. To stop before the cycle lane would not be correct and would cause a confusion, possibly a crash, because other road users would not expect you to stop early. Hope this is what you mean, and I haven't misunderstood your question. Interesting one, that! Best wishes
I have got my test Wednesday and nervous is there any tips you can give me also how many manoeuvres do you have to do and how long is the test also very interesting and informative videos
If you’re turning right from Wood Lane to Elston hall lane (going under the bridge) where do you wait when people go straight ahead in front of you as they can turn left or is it just dead central doesn’t seems enough space for waiting without getting in the way
Very useful
This was my route last week failed coming off vine island didn’t realise it was still 30. Gutted. But was a good route to do. Rebooked for next two weeks.
Keep trying! Stay focused. Success is bound to come. Well-done getting a fast turnaround on your test re-booking 👌
@@RioDrivingSchool thank you 🙏 luckily I found a cancellation. Instructor said if not for that speed issue I’d have passed but he did also say I left the test centre too quick but didn’t elaborate. Now I left the centre the road was empty and I turned and got up to 60 pretty immediate am I thinking this is wrong surely if I came out slower and then sped up gradually I’d be a danger to anyone coming through the road at 60 behind me? Any advice appreciated I love you videos!
I love your videos really helpful 😊

Hilarious this Am on here as I'm taking my mate's lad out tomorrow in a dual control for first time ever Has a humorous familiarity vv csr share Excellent tips Use of voice Use of control pedals in emergency or law breaking only Great to practice using clutch to change but that's a fun bit to be tried in an empty car park Thanks very much
Thank you so much for these videos, I binge watched all your Lichfield mock tests & test route videos and I passed first time today!!! So happy! Your videos are so helpful thank you!! :)
Awwwww!! Bravo!! 👏👏👏👏👌
Where would you recommend stopping if the light turned red (light seen around 5:09)? There doesn’t seem to be a give way line before the cross roads and you’d be blocking the junction if you stopped right at the light. Thanks!
Quite simply, stop at the stop line, right at the end of the light coloured (sandy) road surface. That is an anti skid surface. You'll also see this very faded solid line at the end of the zig zag lines along the LHS of the road.
hi was just wondering if you had to check over your shoulder as a blind spot check and my instructor told me just checking your mirrors would be enough? or is the shoulder check just precautionary?
I would not normally ever say something like this, but... get yourself a new instructor! Simply looking in your mirrors will not tell you if it's safe to pull away. There are areas we cannot see until we turn our head and look over our shoulder.
@@RioDrivingSchool sorry my fault I forgot to specify 🤦♀️when your joining a dual carriageway is it necessary??
@oliviapreece826 Yes, I would definitely do this, especially if it is a multi-lane dual carriageway. Depending upon the angle at which you are joining the carriageway, your mirrors will not tell you what is going on. What if a vehicle in lane 2 or 3 is moving back to Lane 1? You would not be able to see this at all from any position along the slip road...
Brilliant sir
Thank you 😁
Hi Paul, I’m 19 and I really enjoy your videos and find them very helpful. I’ve got my test coming up in a few weeks in Featherstone. Please could you go over the Featherstone route once again.

@@RioDrivingSchool passed my test thank you for all the videos very helpful
@zenoplays5083 congratulations 🎊 very well done!!! 🙏
Why is that a serious? Sorry I’m an automatic driver so idk.
Coasting is when the clutch is down or when the gear is I'm Neautral whilst the car is still in motion. Potentially dangerous for a number of reasons.
thats the test route i did last time :(
may i know if the speed limit is 30 and 40 but i keep 25 and 35 , is that ok to pass?
if i am on the right lane and it is the wrong one. what should i do at the very moment to pass?
The RH lane of what? A dual carriageway? If so, move to the left side. If it's a roundabout, go in any safe direction and wait for the examiner to help out. You could even go all the way around the roundabout and exit toward the exit you originally needed. (Full circle)👍
Hlo sir , i passed my test today morning in featherstone 👍ur videos really help me thnx dear for making great videos
Congratulations 🎊 I am very happy for you!! 😊
just want to know if i am cofused about the speed limit what should i do
Drop your speed until you see a repeater sign. It is better to be penalised a little for 'appropriate progress' than exceeding the speed limit (a fail).
Super helpful video as always! Heather seems lovely, I too struggle feeling comfortable getting up to 60 on those narrower lanes so glad I’m not the only one who does 😂
Thank you for your compliment. Narrow lanes and higher speeds aren't a favourite for many, but it's a skill that needs developing, so know when to go faster and when to ease off and position properly. Keep at it. With practice comes confidence 😊
Ayyy I passed my driving test In Lichfield in November 2022. All the memories of lessons are coming back, I remember all those routes. I haven’t been to Lichfield since I passed.
Congratulations on your pass! Tell me, have you had a need to do a parallel park, yet? I struggled with them, and after I passed I didn't do one for years!! 🤣
Give it a waggle😂😂 Loving the videos! Any chance you can do the same practice lesson once Hannah has had some more training?
I just watched it again, too - give it a woggle!?! 🤣🤣🤣 yes, we will definitely be revisiting things soon. Best wishes!
Great Lichfield is easy but I don't know I can't pass the driving test I did 6 time now my theory is expired. I had a same exminar 4 time
Have you spotted anything in common with all your attempts? Think carefully.
i love ur vids i have my 2nd test next week in lichfield so these are very helpful!!
Best of luck 👍 keep studying and practising; success is bound to come.
Was it a serious because she went over the stop line at the junction or she went over the line at the traffic lights?
Absolutely 💯
If im looking around and its clear and safe to move without interfering with anybody, why signal? If theres nobody there to see it, why use it? I would use my signal if traffic was heavy and i wanted others to know im trying to move on, in the hope someone would create a space for me i.e flash me. On the subject of interfering with others, if your at a junction waiting to pull out and someone slows down and flashes to let you out, would an examiner see that as you have caused them to slow down if you take advantage and use the space they create?
1. Correct. 2. No. Don't do it. If it causes another road user to make a decision they shouldn't have to make it could be a problem. 3. Yes. Take full advantage of it. Proceed with caution.
What's an example of forward manoeuvre?
Driving forward in to a bay.
Thanks a lot for all the videos. I passed my practical test today

When pulling off from the side of the road... I've been told by my adi instructor you no longer need to do a full 360 check? As it takes to long and allows other cars to come during the checks, when you could have pulled Away? I've been told to only check interior and over your shoulder of the side you're pulling out on? Is this correct ?
Effective observations are always necessary. That means all-around checks.
i have never been to lichfield or featherstone. But i want to book my test there. What do u think can i still pass?i failed 3 times in Wolverhampton 😢
and what do u suggest featherstone or lichfield? plz help
Lichfield tends to have a higher test pass percentage overall. However, if you've already failed x3 times, I'd look more deeply at your driving. Make sure you get plenty of help; this test is not easy to pass without plenty of practice. Mock tests are definitely recommended!
Pass my featherstone driving test on first attempt yesterday ! Thank you Paul for all the great videos, it helps a lot to familiar with the test routes, that makes me feel much confident during the test.
