7 - Footings almost done and fixing a mistake
Back at the property. We’re in the middle of a heatwave. Temperatures up to 40 degrees Celsius (over 100 degrees Fahrenheit). That means that working conditions are brutal and I’m taking it slow.
I’m alone again this time. Zara stayed back in the Netherlands. To make up for this, next time I’ll be joined by 2 beautiful ladies: Zara (the little doggo) and Karin (my better half). Looking forward to that.
In this episode, I’m working on 2 footings. So only 1 footing to go after this video. As I predicted in the description of the previous video, I decided to replace 1 very warped beam with a slightly less crappy one. At the end of my stay I did some pruning, trying to preserve the walls of the house.

6 - Started working on the wood structure

4 - Concrete footings halfway done

I’m finally back at the property. The previous trip was 5 months ago. This time the little doggo stayed home, so I’m all alone. The nights are pretty cold. That’s why I decided to keep the tent off the ground and set it up on my trailer. The additional tarp over the tent keeps my stuff from getting damp. I did notice I am sniffing a lot in this video. This tour I’m mainly working on the first row of concrete footings. It’s 7 days of digging holes, cutting rebar, mixing concrete and a lot of measuring. In the end it all worked out. I’m officially the owner now! I’m comfortable now investing both time and money in the property. This time I created a parking space and cleared the drive way, so I can park the car pretty close to the house. This is convenient when I need to haul building materials for instance. It saves me a back breaking hike from the road to the house. In the future I’ll create a wooden deck where you can eat, sleep, shower and relieve yourself. This video documents my first real trip to my property in the Pyrenees. At this point in time, the purchase isn't final yet. But I didn't want to wait any longer to go there for the first time. Well, I did go there before, but that was just for a couple of hours. This time I stayed there for a week and did some basic chores.

Best episode yet! Takes discipline to document details of the construction process, especially from interesting angles. Good balance between the work sequences and exploration of the property. The amount of narration is just right for my taste, some was a bit hard to hear though, perhaps an external mic would help.

I think you should have put a washer and nut on the bottom of the center rod, and then painted the whole rod. At the top when troweling you needed to cover the threads in tape. Should have put a time-capsule under the footings.
Try a wetter concrete mix. You can pour directly into the form, then tap the side of the form to eliminate voids. This will also insure a 100% cure.
@DSTE I followed the instructions on the bag to the letter, but the mix ended up pretty dry. Adding more water is probably a good idea. Thanks for your suggestion!
