Riding One of Jerry Bunke's 1978 440X RXLs on the Derby Track
Decades of research and years of restoration resulted in an amazing day of riding at the Derby Track in Eagle River, Wisconsin in February of 2022. Here is my first ride on this amazing machine, which TJ Patrick got rocking for this event.

TJ Patrick got this sled from Polaris in late 1978 and raced it over the 1979 season. It is restored now, and TJ got to try it for the first time on the Eagle River track.

It's been 40 years since this 1978 440x Polaris factory race sled has been fired up. T.J. Patrick gets it fired up for an initial check of the engine. Still needs the clutches and some other items ready, then we will post a video of it singing its 10,000 RPM song!

Can tell this is not a former Twin Track racer, yet might be a single track racer. Who is Nick? Also, beautiful restoration of a very rare F1 Twin Track. I believe only 4 of the 83 model were built. Chester Duval could confirm that number.
This sled is confirmed by Chester Duval and Brad Hulings. Not sure it could be verified any better than that?

Saw this very sled at Boonville Speed Trials 1973. Mike Baker aboard. Eastman took a turn also. What a day. Double engine Ski Doo with Duhanel on it and the Boss Cat.

Great footage from back in the day. It's too bad Polaris didn't include the racing scene in Alaska because it was equally insane, and the love for their machines was just as huge.

Love the oval track racing. Spent my childhood going to eganville ont every year to watch the races when the Villeneuves were racing. Great times and memories.
