Looking for a 55H,44xs for My DeSilva Flat Deck ✌️
This is the best video on you tube
How fast?
Did 60 mph on this hydro, running at 66.3 mph on the hydro I now run. It can go faster.
Need a ikeffer vintage race mercury, would do 100 easily
Mod 44's with pipes set up for kilo's have a very hard time doing 100 mph so 60 to 70 mph is about the best these old Mercury 44 cid motors will do @@rodbramsjr8823
D boat right? Thinking if i could make a 28h for my D hydro.. how fast and does it get on a plane easy?
Same as with the D motor, easy to get on plane
I’m surprised you only get 60 out of it
Sorry I'm late! Awesome Video
BEAUTIFUL
That wouldn't be a Glenn-L hull would it?
No it is not Glen L
I had a 14’ dasilva pickle fork with with a Marc 55 on it I could get it up to about 55mph. Mine sounded exactly the same as this. Still have the motor
How many cc ?
721 cc
Was this on a stock mk28 gearfoot or an H tower and foot?
This was an H tower and gear foot, 2 blade prop from the 70's
This is a H tower and foot
Some of the new guys would try to use the original 'fishermans' lower unit with a raised transom and the highest pitch prop they could find. 50 mph was about the max any of them ever saw. When they finally scraped up the money for a racing quicksilver (quicky) lower unit they were instantly in the mid seventies. Most reliable engine I ever saw, one pull with the choke on and there would be a little sputter. The next pull with the choke off and you were ready to squeeze the throttle, all with excellent mileage. Years went by problem free until one of us in the group wanted to beat the rest. Enter expansion chambers, nitrous, alcohol and one turbo. There were times when the first guy to launch already was drifting with a locked up engine before the last guy was even in the water. Now there are only two of us left out of a group of 10-12.
Stunning machine
I have a Stuska dyno and the 44 merc was the norm that our group used. The best I have seen for hp taken right off the powerhead, no gear box, was 40.6. On an average dayt 78 mph was the norm, but on a cool fall day you could see 80, unmodified with stock semi-quiet exhaust. Strangley every 44 was amazingly close in top end. there would be several of us side by side for a mile with the winner beating by a few feet. Best prop, set-up angle and driver position in the boat would determine who finally was out front by a foot or two. I begged a new guy to get a 44 but he went with a three cyl 65 hp merc (62 dyno hp) and he would always pull away but never had the enjoyment we had with our ultra close 44 races!!
the 3 cyl 50-70hp Mercs were complete dogs, and I love Mercs don't get me wrong but man those were cranky underpowered things! I didn't think it ever put out close to its power rating, the 70hp basically being downgraded to a 50hp once propshaft hp came out in 85' or thereabouts with basically no changes.
What prop pitch blades diameter and ram did you see on your stock 44's
I have close to twenty props from 11 pitch to 16 in diameters from the high sixes to the high seven inch diameter. In round ear clever and tulip from some of the best prop makers, Sidor, dewalt hopkins. Btw, the hopkins tulip was the the fastest top end prop I ever had, slightly poor acceleration but the highest top end. Incredably small blade area on a tulip prop compared to a dewalt round ear. I worked in an investment casting plant where they made jet turbine blades for the hot section of the jet engine. They did me the favor of casting me three clever prips copied from the Mercury low rake clever from alloy 15-5 a common prop material. Right out of the casting with no polish they were one mph slower than the prop they copied. I feel with a good finishing they would be very close to the merc copy.@@RichardSacher
Mercury cleaver 7" dia 13 pitch with the pointed tips slightly rounded off seemed to work on everything. Hopkins propellor out of louisana has a tulip prop with extra small blade area and around 13 pitch that was slower in the mid range but my best top end prop by one mph. Our group gets side by side at about forty mph and hit the throttle and race each other to top end. When I put my hopkins top end prop on whoever I was racing knew something was up when as we lined up side by side I kept increasing my speed and they had to also increase their speed to get side by side. Before one of us gave the nod to hit it, we were going over sixty! @@RichardSacher
Imagine 7 or 8 extra MPH without chubby Rick as driver
A bug at that speed might knock a tooth out.looks like fun to me
This is bliss.
SLAY?!?
Oh what fun it is to ride in a one prop wfo sleigh
I picked up one of these to rehab, I hope. A 1961 Klekhaefer Merc 45hp 400 E Series (Electric Starting, Short Shaft, with Alternator). Wish me luck. Any advice? Thanks.
What make of boat is that?
44xs. Merc. a bad ass known to exceed. 80 m.p.h
holy crap that ol girl really rips
He could make better speed earlier water a little rough 67M.P.H is possible my Yamato 302 on 9'9" bzoats hydro would ( overpowered) on plane 2-3 sec would make 67M.P.H. 24.1 cu. in same size as 25xs mercury
Back in 1958 I had a 10 Hurricane on my B utility boat. Always dreamed of upgrading to a 30H. Great to see yours. Such a classic. 👍
The acceleration is great with that combo. Effortlessly jumping through the numbers. Had my 30h out a few weeks ago and first time having GoPro speedo. My combo doesn’t have a chance in acceleration department but touched 60 mph when the big can of fuel was full and other excess weight was on board. My “butt” synonym knows I’ve been plenty faster with it. Thanks for the vid! Btw, know anyone that might have spare 30h 1:1 gears they might wanna sell?😉
Who built the boat? What hull design is it?
No on the 30H gear case, sure like the vids you put out but get a bigger boat
@@RichardSacher I did get a bigger boat. That how I ended up with the 30h. “Tweety” is an 11’ and change, canvas nose. I believe it’s a Hal Kelly design with fuel tank/door right in front of the steering wheel. Btw, my case is fine, I’m just seeking gears, if that makes any difference.
Beautiful lake
Awesome, I hope someone enjoyed rebuilding that as much as rippin it!
What prop and any mods?
7 11 2 blade
never stop an engine like you do after a test run😅
That’s a mighty sweet ride. I just got a 11 footer and was wondering if that size motor would be too much.
An 11 foot would match up to a 44 cid merc 500 well, no problem
Install trim and a jackplate. Low water pickup and hold on!!!
its a shorty already no jackplate needed 70 mph is fast for 50hp as is..lol
Great to see these machines of yesteryear still running!
Nice rig. I used to have a Chapparral built by Wayne Walgrave with a Mark 55H that would knock on the door of 80mph! It would corner at WOT and there wasn’t anything in its class that would touch it. Good old days.
I bet
S M O K I N 🔥 FAST for only 50hp
The engine has run up to 68.5 MPH on GPS this summer
@@RichardSacher Back in the early 80s I restored a Crusader tunnel Hull the deck was only 1/8" plywood. When I was 15 built my first Hydroplane from 3/8" plywood it was 4 x 8ft with 18hp Sea King OB & smoked my buddies speedboat with a 115hp mercury lol
that header sounds sweet
What a lovely sound
Damn
What hp ? It cooks pretty good !
45 hp
@@RichardSacher Thanks !
2 people are allergic to water
& then a jetski flys by..
not many
That thing scoots for only 30HP
I want to see him tow a skier.
Round here the first question to be asked would be.....well wheres he gunna out his fishing rods?. .....fuck I hate this town!!@!
this is funny
He could use some trim up on that boat
its a hydro they run flat
Mad but who would"nt want to captain one!
Is this hydro a 10 foot? Seems to handle all these motors well.
11 foot 4 inches
What year is the engine?
1959 Mark 58A all the Mark "A" motors are 1959 it was Mercury's 20th Anniversary
That’s awesome old school. I had a 1958 Evinrude 18hp twin. Huge and heavy. Built like an ox and super strong. Absolutely loved it. Thanks for sharing. Take care 🛥🇺🇸
Fantastic,man.Sounds outstanding.Thanks for the video.
nice! so good in the glass
