Interesting Dave.
Well done.
Thank you!
Amira Abides!
Love it! Is part deux the life of the anthropologist left on the planet and her new family, complete with kids and grandkids?
Thanks Charles - maybe --- or a long sojourn on a dead planet where lonely survival is key!
One nasty single cat lady...
I've uploaded two Durrell shorts 'Spirit of Place' Corfu and Aegean Islands from original 16mm film prints. They are excellent.
Must sees!
There is also a film on CZcams about Durrell's life in Provence. The Plant Magic Man is in the film as well!
...from sea to shining souk...
Great tree in the graveyard...radio in the kitchen...gargantuan station wagon...54 years ago! I have no desire to relive it!
...and the stately pleasure dome did crumble into dust...
O yes, thank you, C.W.!
Very cool❤. My pops family is from Brooklyn. Bay Ridge
Thanks so much! Great place -wild decade!
Bad girls rule!
Who were those unmasked men????
Yes, they are listed in the description of the film!
@@dalibunuel17 I know,,,I was riffing on the Lone Ranger...
Бонни и Клайд держали в страхе всю Америку ведь у них в машине был кролик 🐰 которого Бонни везла матери в подарок по имени СЫНОК
Fascinating note! Thanks!
Zach in Champy Land!
Just flagged for misninformation. Another fraud
Bill Burroughs certainly thought it was tragic...
indeed he did, Charles!
Does it come with an end-times school desk for the kiddies?
Funny you mention that, Charles! A desk is included with complete safety underneath it to protect from radioactivity!
Is this Dave's equivalent of the Alexandria Quartet?
Kinda!
Síiiiíi, Godard, por siempre.
wow thats so great so do you think gurjiev didnt visit that place? If it looks as if abondaned for centirues ?
Thank you! This was more of a "what if" film about the remarkable men idea! It is truly hard to know just where Gurdjieff visited in Central Asia. So much of that wrapped in mystery.!
Wandering auto graveyards is a combination of therapy and sadness for me....imagine those derelicts when they were new and look at them now !
Yes, they house the remnants of our former empire in autos. This place had qualities of both sadness and serenity. A Sunday morning. Alone with the camera witnessing these cars turning back into nature. Kind of poetic really. Thanks for writing!
Heal samson from hekaups and illnesse recoverhim and come home from hospital
Great cinematography in this. Nightmarish qualities for an unsettling story...
Thank you! Zach Donohue shot the film. He would go on to direct THE DEN a number of years later!
Are you related to talk show host?
not related
What is this?
a short horror film in super 8 from decades ago.
The power of depression!
There's some potential in all that. Nice
Thank you!

The G-man speaks!
Incredible work🙏🏽🙏🏽
Thank you so much! Appreciate this!
At some point, sorry, but I don't remember the exact year, Durrell revisited Alexandria. Almost from the outset one had the impression that he was appalled, that he couldn't wait to leave. It may have been around 1977, but, poet that he was, he was both resentful of and heartbroken that the place had changed so much. Do you remember if you had any sense that you and your mates were in Justine and Darley's city or was it essentially an alien place with no touchstones, the city of the Quartet long since subsumed by change . . ? Cheers!
I did not know of Durrell's return in the 70s but, yes, the city had lost its international flair by the 70s.... So many people from throughout the Levant who had called Alex home had fled in the 60s and the 70s.... It was rundown... I imagine L.D. would have seen that right off...and mourned that fact... Great note, very cool, and much appreciated!!! In the end though we were glad to have seen it. The Cecil was awesome.... It was exotic... people welcoming.....
he / the BBC made a documentary about his re-visit, in 1977 called Spirit of Place, which doesnt seem to exist anymore, unless it's sitting on an old tape in someone's attic!
@@maryschumm9866 Many thanks for this. It does seem a bit confusing due to the fact that there's another "Spirit of Place" doc still up on CZcams about Durrell's time in Greece. I was fortunate enough to watch the Alexandrian "Spirit of Place" on CZcams, but you are quite correct that it appears to have vanished. A pity. Wouldn't it be lovely if some enterprising film folk undertook the daunting task (and expense) of filming the Quartet . . . if only to atone for the 1969 debacle Justine? Cheers!
@@maryschumm9866 Two of the documentaries are on my channel. I scanned them from original 16mm film prints.
Very powerful rendition of Paris, stories as they should be told, Paris as I have experienced it. Thank you kindly
Thank you so much! We are very happy to have worked with Mr. Tijerina since 2009.
Nice works subbed
Thoroughly enjoyed this, and who knows, perhaps Darley was in there somewhere . . . Many thanks for uploading this. Cheers!
Thanks so much for this comment! There were four Darleys in town that trip --- all of us teachers from a Boys' school in southern Turkey... Brit and American. All big Quartet fans. All in Darley mode ---- Thanks again!
Thanks for posting. Good to see some earlier classics from the 40s and 50s. Nice find!
Thank you! It is a very special spot --- almost museum like!
Lovely!
