Why back up every time?
Love this video
Consider re-recording this one. I am very interested in this topic but gave up because I couldn’t hear you. Thanks!
I am an old cowgirl…. Trying to come back…. Your training technique is very helpful and well explained….
I just subscribed to your channel. I have a 3 year-old AQHA gelding that I plan to show in some ranch classes this year. Your videos are very helpful to me in what I can expect at the shows and what I need to work on!
Wonderful to hear Andy, thank you. Hope you thoroughly enjoy getting out there in the Ranch classes :)
Sorry fatfinger error!, Thank you for being so easy to understand. Jenny
Lol.. thank you so much Jenny, I hope it helps you with your horse :)
Hi Sue. Jenny from England. Just Checking your videos and found this great one. Everything your horse did my has done in the roundpen and I've not found how to redress it but your
Would I do this the same with a two yr old untouched filly, she is slowly gaining trust but hasn't let me touch her yet, iv had her in pen for few weeks because the first day she got out in pasture and couldn't catch, had get her used feed bucket in pen and finally caught her .
Hi Jennifer, if you’ve never done this with an untouched horse, maybe you can get some help from a trainer at home?
You do such a wonderful job explaining and demonstrating the gates back to back, can I share this with a 4H group?
Absolutely Madison. And thank you.
Looks lovely
Can you tell me what kind of bit you are using ?
Really interesting video, thank you. I am new to western riding and was wondering at what point you teach the horse to canter - trot transition instead of canter - stop, and how you teach them the difference between stop and just a transition to a lower gait? That's what I'm struggling with currently, my horse does really well in the transitions but not sure what aids to use to differentiate the stop and the lower gait.
For someone just starting to show and taking an interest in ranch versatility, this is so helpful. Thank you! Can you do a video on getting straight lines better?
Hi Tiff, have been asked a LOT about 'straight lines' It's definately on the list for future :)
Im doing a ranch show soon and I have a plain grey shirt with a little bit of lace (all same colour) on the sleeves and back.. is this appropriate?
Hello Sue , sorry I'm a little late but what obstacles do you suggest practicing at home when you aren't sure what obstacles you will be showing on?
Hi Charlee, Under AQHA Performance Rules there are 3 mandatory obstacles that must be included in a. Approved show. They are:- a gate, at least 4 logs (walk, trot or canter over), and a back through (in a variety of configurations). The AQHA Rule Book is on line and free and has numerous options that can be used in a trail class. Hope this helps. I would suggest you practice these for sure. Also make sure your horse can side-pass and back up as these are often found in a trail class as well.
@@suewilliams3234 Thank you so much Mrs. Sue I appreciate it I am new to versatility and I know little so your videos are so helpful!
Could you do a segment on bits, for training, legal bits for show, what bits for certain levels of training etc. Please 🤞
Hi Jess, with different rules between breed societies and the various associations, its tricky to cover this topic sadly. It’s a question for the show secretary or committee for the club you wish to compete with. I do have a video on ‘holding reins for competition’ which may cover this to start? Hope this helps :)
Thanks Sue, so glad I found your page, where abouts are you located ? And are you still doing clinics ?
Hi Jessica, I am in Tamworth NSW. Australia. We have had restrictions on movement with Covid in our area, however have started to see restrictions lift, so hopefully a few clinics will be starting soon. Follow my facebook page for clinic announcements. It’s “sue Williams equine versatility”
Hi Sue, thank you for this great little video! I enjoy watching all your videos and I am learning from them. I participated in my first ranch riding classes this year, and took lots of your pointers to the competion:))
Hi Michelle More than happy to help in a small way - just remember “baby steps”…. Get things solid with your partner(horse lol) before moving on to the next manoeuvre.🌻
Thank you, I really enjoy watching your videos
You’re most welcome Melissa - hope they help a little🌻🌻
Thanks for showing REAL works in progress for competition. I'm wanting to get into competitions and it can be intimidating only seeing finished horse videos!
You’re most welcome Rebecca - yes, my videos are not doctored in any way and what you see is what you get - no frills lol - glad you enjoyed it🌸
Plz make video on 360° movement. And joint side pass+360° plz show. If u have already make viedo on this subject plz give me link. Love from india, namste 🙏🇮🇳
Hi in India! This video covers “Ranch Conformation” there is no 360 turn or side pass in this class. If you search my channel for “Ranch Riding Side Pass” that should help.
Thank you for explaining the point system! I’m moving from the pleasure horse arena to the ranch one and this helps so much!
You're welcome Hailey :) Glad it helped
Beautiful, thank you Sue
Thanks Melissa, hope that helps
Thank you so much.
Thanks..... You have motivated me .
Oh Ruby, that’s so wonderful to hear! Never give up x
Thank u so much for your videos and clear instructions. I’m Pennsylvania and find them very helpful. I have a question for how to deal with my horse at shows. He seems to get anxious as the day goes on and doesn’t want to stand and wait in line...or rushes thru obstacles. Any suggestions? Thanks again.
Hi Susan, welcome to my channel from Australia! It’s hard without knowing a bit more about your situation, but if it starts out ok and get’s anxious as the day goes, there could be something in his gear, or body alignment might be worth checking? Saddle fit, chiro visit, try a process of elimination. I would recommend having a chat with a respected and experienced fellow competitor as it’s happening for an opinion. Hope that might start you in the right direction x
Thank you. That was so helpful.
It’s a ROOHIDE saddle- great saddle and great workmanship 🌸
Love that saddle what make is it please
Love from Texas Sue!
LOVE back to you in Texas from Down Under!
Sure can - I have one happening down near Geelong around July
Sue can you travel to Victoria to do clinics ?
Hi Sue. This is so helpful, I have been releasing at the wrong time! !Have sent you an email.
Hi Sue. Just found this video on I think its rollback ? I can see by your instruction, I've been getting too close to the fence and " locking him up" Thank you for such clear guidance
Hi Sue. Didn't know how to start teaching my horse to side pass over poles. This video explains all.,, So glad to have found help at last. Will email you soon. Jenny
So happy to be able to help Jenny. Can’t wait to get to work together!
Hi Sue. Have emailed you and am having a go at the two videos about side passing today. Hopefully putting your ideas into practice !!
Thank you Sue. I am in England and there are so few trainers in western CZcams is my primary source. Have found all your videos easy to follow and I'm 73 and my quarter horse is 19yr old school master. Want to do Ranch but have ex reiner so all these exercises are really helpful. Keep going xx
Thank you so much. You are my inspiration, would love to know more about you and your gelding? Email me anything you might like help with, am happy to assist where I can. Suewequinev@gmail.com

YeeHawww!!! Can't wait to see you RidingFree!!
Thanks Sue
Welcome Tonya :)
Thank you Sue, great exercise. Perfect for getting your horses shoulders moving.
Thanks Melissa, hope it helps
Hi Sue, in the buckle series is it the same rules as aqua with shank bit for senior horses or can you two hand ?
Hi Tonya, run under AQHA performance rules, so Senior horse is one hand in a shank. The girls in the demo were two handing, they can enter the any handed class. If you check the program on my webpage; www.suewilliamsequine.com.au the guidelines should help x
Would it be points off to ride up next to the log and then sidepass or do you need to yield first?
Hi Kayla, it would be up to what was in the pattern. The pattern normally explains and diagrams what is required. If you are in doubt, ask the judge prior to the show or the class for clarification. We did this side pass over log for demonstration purposes :)
What saddle are you riding in in the video? What type of saddle do you recommend for this sport?
This is a RooHide cutting saddle, I had some modifications made. Many saddles are suited to Ranch Horse, cutting, reining, most western saddles, less bling is best. Hope that helps
Brilliant!!
Compelling viewing. I get it now, this thing about horses. Thanks!
Such a great tool to set up front feet .. you broke it down so I could understand thanks Sue 💋
Thanks so much Tonya, glad you could get something from it!
Thank you Sue it’s so lovely that you share so much .
You are so welcome, so glad you enjoy x
Thank you such a great explanation especially of lifting up into the lope transition.
Tonya Turner thank you, hope it helps x
