    • @CAMOFasteners
      @CAMOFasteners Před 16 hodinami

      @@yogramgram6125 Apologies for missing you! To your question, we're assuming you're using a square edge (non-grooved) capped composite Trex board. With capped composite boards we do require a partial pre-drill setup method (see link to full installation guidelines here): www.camofasteners.com/wp-content/uploads/Edge-Screw-Installation-with-Capped-Composite-Decking.pdf Using your battery powered driver drill will be fine for installation. With the Marksman Pro tool in place on the deck board, first complete the partial pre-drill as shown in the installation instructions. This just creates a nice pocket for starting the screw. Next, with the tool still in place drop the CAMO Edge Screw in and complete the fastening process by driving the screw in with your drill using high speed but lower pressure. The screw should bite and go right in.

    Camo screws are junk. I built a 42x12 deck and the wife wanted a hidden screw. A year later these things are splitting the face of the edge of the boards randomly due to normal lumber expansion and contraction. Screwing the boards in from the top or screw from underneath to conceal screws. What a waste of time and money. Junk.

    • @mr.kenslifeshop4034
      @mr.kenslifeshop4034 Před 4 měsíci

      My guess on the physics would be the screw had probably eventually pulls through because of the expansion and contraction.

    • @broncobart4354
      @broncobart4354 Před 4 měsíci

      @@mr.kenslifeshop4034 yes I agree. I think the concept behind this system is sound. It's much like toe nailing was/is done on hardwood floors. The difference here is the rate of expansion and contraction due to the deck boards being exposed to the elements. The screws also have a tendency to dance around when shooting them in. They have single paddle type pilot point so even though CAMO advertises theme as being self tapping, they're really not when compared to a deck screw that is pointed on the end and fluted on both sides.

    Which Camo should be used with Cedar 5/4 x 6 decking boards? You mentioned composite (use the Pro), PT wood (use the x1), but said nothing about cedar boards. I'm assuming that since cedar doesn't shrink as much as PT wood, using the Pro (i.e. 3/16 gap) unit is recommended or should I use the 1/16 gap, or is it simply a matter of preference? Thanks.

    Will this work for grooved Ipe deck boards? The supplier I’m talking to (Advantage Lumber) says screws MUST go THROUGH the boards. I don’t know if they are just creating fear, uncertainty and doubt (FUD) to favor some other system or if screwing through the wood is a special requirement for ipe wood. I love the idea behind this CAMO fastening system because it entirely eliminates the usual Ipe requirement to pre-drill every hole, which will cut the number of operations required in half, plus it seems more maintainable. But I have to be certain it works for Ipe. I appreciate any insights anyone can provide.

    • @CAMOFasteners
      @CAMOFasteners Před 4 měsíci

      @markhooker8520 Our CAMO clips will work with grooved IPE. However, other clips in the market are designed specifically for IPE installation through the board and must be per-drilled; our clips are designed differently. One thing to note, though, when installing IPE is to follow directions for acclimating the decking on site before installation. Our clips don't prevent board shrinkage, which can be troublesome if the product isn't acclimated correctly. If you have other questions, please reach out to marketing@camofasteners.com as we're happy to help.

      This can sometimes happen. It usually can be fixed by starting the drill motor before engaging or pressing down to drive the screw. If you're still having issues, please get in touch with marketing@nationalnail.com so we can connect to ensure you have the best experience with our DRIVE tool and collated screws.

    This clips are a dream on decks without seams. all the tools more than paid for themselves on first project. You need a better solution for decks requiring seams as doubling every joist is not a money saver and seams should be randomised. why not just a wider clip? or a double clip?

    Can the edge clip accommodate a 1/8 larger gap if necessary ?

      Probably not. I use the edge clips quite a bit, and the are made to give you a consistent 3/16th spacing. Any more than that and the metal ears on the clips won't grab much of the grooved edge of the board.

      @driveman figured you'd reply before the company would. What's the process for butt joints? I can't find any literature around what to use for butt joints on decks longer then 20ft
