I went to the river and it's receding, so I can find some cool rocks to cut and polish. I was walking the shallow water to see some newly turned over river cobble. I looked down and saw a green piece of mossy agate. I find this color on the river so I knew what I was picking up. It was about the size of a bantam chicken egg. Just a bit smaller of a regular chicken egg. I took it home and candle...
A quick trip to the river to rockhhound and explore the new gravel beds
zhlédnutí 284Před 2 měsíci
I was able to find some time to get to my favorite river and see what the water level was. It is going down and seems like the run off has slowed from high water mark a week ago. I enjoy seeing how the river makes the stream bed move back and forth like a snake over the years. It looks like it won't be too long before it is short weather and the new gravels reveal themselves. Take it cool and e...
Finding a large Petrified Wood Stump in the woods
zhlédnutí 184Před 3 měsíci
I was fortunate to stumble upon this large piece of fossilized stump of petrified wood today. This piece of petrified wood was just as it grew. The growth rings were about a quarter of an inch between years of growth. This seemed to look like an old cypress that you would see in the swamps of South Eastern United States. From what the experts say, this part of Montana was once an inland sea. I ...
A lesson with Lighting and taking cover in a thunderstorm
zhlédnutí 24Před 3 měsíci
I found this lighting strike tree. It's just a life lesson about where not to take cover in a thunderstorm. The strike will spiral down and can catch fire and will smolder for days and in the right conditions, start a wildfire. Be safe traveling in the woods and understand the tallest tree isn't a safer place to be when there is lighting about. take it col

Here is a Yellowstone montana agate that I found in a hotel parking lot. It was found in Custer County Montana on May 22nd 2024. The hotel uses rocks xeriscape to keep the weeds down, and I look thru their rocks. I hope they don't mind. Anyway, I was careful to avoid the dog turds left by hotel visitor's pets. There were a lot of them to avoid, haha. The painting crew came in and caused a littl...
Finding ancient sea fossils in the prairie
zhlédnutí 104Před 3 měsíci
I took a trip to the prairie and found some sea fossils, which I thought we ammonites but determined I was wrong. That's okay. We all make mistakes. I am lucky enough to see the countryside and not be behind a desk. I am humbled that once this whole place was underwater, and now millions of years later, it has become a prairie with abundant wildlife and geological wonders. There are dinosaur fo...

I find these rocks in NE Montana. My hypothesis is that these were deposited from the glaciers residing north. I like to polish them because they are rounded and and banded with color bands. If anyone knows what they are, let me know. Rockhounding the rivers and valleys is what I enjoy. Rocks and minerals.

I went up in the hills for an adventure to see what I could find. I found some agate and petrified wood. it was cold wet and windy and would flurry on us now and again. After seeing that rock flipped over I overlooked the fact that we were in bearatory. After I recorded this video I found more evidence of bear sign. This video was recorded yesterday 5/2/2024. Treasure County Montana. Get out an...
Fun with my newly purchased thrift store find. A Montana made Vintage 1989 engraver
zhlédnutí 26Před 5 měsíci
I purchased this engraver at a thrift store. It is Montana made and has a manufacturer date of 10/13/1989. This engraver was not operational, but I managed to get to work by simply making a better connection to the engraver tool, which over time, 35 years had become a loose connection and just needed a little coaxing to make a better connection while inserting the engraver tool into the unit. N...

It's not every day i get to see moose in the wild...very cool. I have no idea what that animal on the boulder is. Beautiful wide open spaces!
The animal on the rocks is a Pika,
It does look like pickle😂
Thanks, I may polish it soon
In the summer, the wolves almost never catch their prey, because large herbivores like elk and deer have hooves that only help them out sprint wolves on flat terrain. In deep snow, however, the wolves gain the advantage, because their paws act like snowshoes that help them run on snow without sinking in. The elk and other ungulates don’t have that advantage, so they keep getting slowed down in the snow, allowing the wolves to catch and kill them.
looks awesome bro
❤❤❤❤❤
Surely an unpublished extract from "Casper the Friendly Ghost and his Family", disguised as wolves 🙂
Is that an abandoned rail line?
Yes, the tunnel is called the eagle nest tunnel
The moss agate is amazing ! So beautiful. Have a great weekend😊
Thanks, you too! Happy summer!
Very different but pretty
Thanks for stopping by!
That's awesome!
It was a fun day out in the woods
Think it was the ice age doing its thing
Thanks for coming along. I appreciate the comment
Good place to train a rapture
Pretty crazy
It reminded me of a cypress you'd see in the swamps. It was awesome!
The cypress trees are pretty neat to see
Holy moly that things beautiful
Thanks for stopping by, I was impressed by the large growth rings.
Good info
Thanks, I prefer not to teach folks but when it comes to safety I spread the word!
It’s pretty
Thanks for coming along
Saw 3 phantom wolves
Are you going to slab it? Is there a surprise inside?
Concretions. Mud balls that formed around organic material. Ammonites, along with an assortment of other fossils, can be found within them.
I thought I saw evidence of an ammonite on the walk in. I have tried to break a few concretions over the years but haven't had any luck. Thanks for stopping by
Beautiful countryside! Thanks for sharing.
Yes, I agree. The prairie is a fun place to explore
slow elk, haha!
I wasn't about ready to pick it up to show the texture! Haha
Love the rock that looks like a face and the balsamroot.
It was a good color contrast to thr gray sky's, thanks for watching
Beautiful!🎉
Your round rocks you showed in the start of the video look so much like Jacobsville sand stone I find in Upper Michigan. Could yours be gniess ? Your tomato plants look very nice also !
Thanks, I never heard of jacobsville. I will check it out. I planted the garden last weekend and can't wait to harvest some veggies. Take it cool
The Pryor are truly a magical place. Heading out there in a couple days. Did you run into any snow on the trails?
This was a couple summers ago. I am sure sage creek is muddy bit you can always take the powerline road to avoid the crow tribal land ruts to the fs boundary. The South side of the Pryor is a whole different story. No new roads updates.
Did you make it out? How were the trails? I'm planning a tip out there June 4-6
@@rayfields9867 his video ended up being from a couple years ago. Was just out there and there’s lots of snow up high. Not sure about the depth but I’m thinking the shaded tree areas might be filled in pretty good. But you’ll never know if you don’t check it out!
@MontanaRockSlayer Thanks for the heads up. It always seems like the Pryor mountains get a lot of moisture up on top
I hope you have a safe trip, thanks for watching
Wow, that’s an amazing one, definitely seems worth the hike
Nice views too
Glad to hear from you Jesse! I have been on a little hiatus but I'm ready for the summer adventures. Take it cool!
I would love to do that, but the forests here in western Washington are too thick. I could barely walk a few hundred feet off trail with all bushes.
Beautiful!
Yep where's the wolves ?
They come in from the left. They are hidden. the second video has more visual of wolves
They are very camouflaged I can assure you they are indeed in the video but quite hidden,. I have 3 more videos on the Playlist to watch with confirmation of the pack
Jurassic park... "their flocking this way 😅
that is so cool! thanks for sharing
Thé emoji was a typo
Yo why is the wolf so invisible 😊
Watch the 2nd video as well. They come in from the left and are camouflaged well
That black bott thing is crazy cool 🍻
I appreciate you coming along! I've debated cutting it open but am still on the fence. I plan to visit the river tomorrow for sure!
Cool, easy fix!
lovely view out the window
9 degrees sounds rough, looks like the cold has your saw & what not running though
It was 50 degrees onSunday and was looking like Spring. I hope to get to the river before too long. Take it cool
Hey, I'm just watching the livestream from last night so I could read the comments. The only comments I knew about while we were live were the ones Nancy read to me. I was mostly into juggling in the late eighties while I was in college. I also ran an after school juggling club some years when I was teaching Junior high kids. I didn't go to the conventions that you mentioned, but I went to the one in Ann Arbor in the eighties that Paul Kyprie used to put on. Those were pretty well attended by jugglers from all over the midwest. I also went to one in Midland, Michigan and another in Grand Rapids in the early 90's. There were also some small ones at a couple of northern Michigan ski hills put on by a guy whose stage name was Tommy Tropic. I hung out with a couple of famous jugglers at one of those, but I can't remember their names right now. It was two guys. One was about 6' 5" and swallowed swords. They were fun.
Thanks, I always wondered if we crossed paths in the 90s somewhere. Montana is home and I am glad you had a chance to visit last summer.
@@RockerranShow That was a really fun trip. I'm going to try to start making a few bigger trips each year, hopefully to the south in the winter or very early spring or late fall. I like being in Michigan during our short summers.
Someone asked what state. I want lats and longs and the local road. HAHA...... really cool.
Thanks
I never realized how the playlist thing work, I’m gonna have to look into this…pretty crazy videos, is this from your place?
yes, I wasnt too far from home. It was last summer on a camp trip
👍
Does that "river" have a name?
Thanks for asking, It's one of the three rivers that form the longest river in the United States. Are you a rockhound? What brings you to the channel?
Glad to see that you’re getting some good weather 👍
Thanks, I was glad I got out before it snowed. Congrats on winning the giveaway. That's cool
That is really an interesting rock😮
Yes, thanks! It was great weather a few days ago. It's snowing this morning, haha
Wow, doesn't look like December!!
It still feels like fall and it's great to not have snow yet!
Super nice color on that agate, great work on the cabs too 👍
Thanks Jesse, it was a fun little couple of cabs. Lots more too! Hope you guys had a good holiday weekend
