Unbelivable that the Administration, knowing about Judge Wise's published advocacy articles while she was a sitting judge about controversial political issues represents one of two possibilities, idiologically driven hubris, or gross incompetence. Both should be unacceptable behavior for government officials. Judge Wise's refusal to answer questions directly, her noncredible responses, and her cringeworthy dissembling should definitely lead to her not being confirmed to the Federal bench. Her well documented unethical public partisanship is an embarrassment and disgrace to the legal profession. I can't believe that the administration nominated her. Wise is from California and the Bay Area, so its probable that Kamala Harris, as DA or State AG, was personally aquainted with her as state judge, or prior to as a practicing attorney and radical Democrat activist. I wonder if Wise's nomination was "an inside job"? But what do I know? I'm just a dumb fighter pilot and retired airline captain who pays attention to what's going down in DC.

You could solve most of this problem by totally scrapping the current tax code and replacing it with a flat income tax. The liberals would scream, "That's regressive!" and filibuster it to death, or flood it with a host of amendments that would transform it back into a worse system than it is now. I'd suggest that you could largely deal with the regressiveness issue by fixing an income level below which the defined "poor" would be exempt from taxes. That would also have the salubrious twin effects of dismantling 90% of the current grossly wasteful and inefficient entitlement and welfare system while incentivizing the poor and "disadvantaged" population who can go to work instead of subsisting on government handouts. Nothing will happen of course, because many, if not most, members of Congress are beholden to campaign financing donations from lobbyists and constituents who benefit from our current Byzantine maze of credits, deductions, and exemptions that distort and suppress the formation and efficient operation of legitimate businesses, and ultimately the entire economy. The Congress hides behind the labyrinthine "incentives" in the existing tax code designed to help those wealthy corporate interests that fund their reelection campaigns. The one thing that Congressmen and Senators fear most from a simple flat tax system reform is that it would force them to transparently provide their lucrative breaks to favored interests by direct government subsidies, thus exposing their current tax loophole gifts to favored constituencies. After his visit to the United States in 1831, Count De Toqueville published in 1835 his astute musings in the still famous book, "Democracy In America". In it he opined that the democracy in action that he observed during his extensive travels in post Revolutionary America would continue to work splendidly until its sovereign citizens realized that, and here I am paraphrasing, they could elect representatives that would enact laws to give them other people's stuff. That eventually happened, and now we are saddled with a deeply entrenched and remote central government that is deeply corrupt and overweeningly interventional in the daily lives of our once free citizenry.
