How to Access Rear Deck on 2005-2012 Toyota Avalon Without Removing Rear Seats!

If I want to disconnect the sunshade from the R gear but keep it under control with its button how to do that? In other words, I don’t want the sunshade to go down automatically when I put the gear on R but I want it to work with its button only. How can I do that? and thank you for your great videos
I believe that should be possible, but electronics is far from my expertise. It probably works like how backup cameras do. The camera taps into the backup lights circuit, when the backup lights turn on, so does your backup camera. Toyota probably did it in a more elegant way than what I described. I would recommend pulling the wiring diagram for your model year or visiting the toyotanation forum and asking.
Hi, to pass my state inspection, I revisited this awesome video. I was working on replacing my third brake light and I broke the tabs that hold the brake light assembly… They are very fragile.. Is this rear deck easy to replace if I needed to? I seen a replacement part for $400 and that’s not something I want to pay for.. So far I have clear scotch tape holding it lol
@@samukahtviv1 The only challenge I foresee with replacing the rear deck (cost aside) is having to reroute the seatbelts out of the old deck into the new deck. Everything else should be easy. A sturdier and affordable option over tape would be purchasing a plastic welding kit on Amazon, you’ll want the kind with the heated metal staples. Good luck and I’m happy this video has been useful for you!
@@jboi6049thank you for the quick response! Okay I will try that. Just to change the light on this generation Avalon is a pain in the ass.. oh and the subwoofer is alittle clunky but I just leave it be. I don’t want to add more money into this 245k mile ride. Wanting to upgrade maybe to the Lexus GS but I’m concerned about the oil burning issue
Thanks for the info. I just bought a 2005 avalon limited. It only has 82,600 miles and is in immaculate condition, but the 19yr old subwoofer must have been dryed out and after 3 weeks it blew and i dont even listen to my music that loud
You got yourself a museum piece there, great buy. Very similar to mine, ~80k mi and pristine when I got it, noticed the blown speaker on the drive home 😂
@jboi6049 the other speakers don't have base coming out of them, so they sound great, it's just the subwoofer. It's says that it has 14 speakers, but I could only find 11 plus the subwoofer. And it's a JBL speaker. And immaculate is right. Not even a scratch or mark on the interior. It's that 1 in a million buy that people look for
Thank you for this video! Replaced the subwoofer today. I hope to never ever have to go through that process again.
I've done the subwoofer twice already, but hopefully you have better luck than me!
@@jboi6049 Dang, sorry to hear that. I actually picked up a Skar Audio 8” sub to replace the stock sub with. I ended up having to drill some holes around the slot to manually mount it (and prevent buzzing/shaking), but otherwise it fits perfectly and sounds awesome. If the stock subs keep breaking then I would recommend the Skar sub
Changed the third brake light with these instructions. Saved a ton of time without having to pull the seat. A bit tight on the side panels, but worked out fine. Thank you!
Proud of you bro frfr 👏🏻💯
And for this reason I'm selling my Avalon
😥
Great vid. Thank you!
Thank you 🙏🏻.
The most beautiful model from 2007 to 2012. It is amazingly practical. Thank you for clarifying the information
Thanks
Video of actually removing the part would help
Rewatch the video, I mention where you can find that information 😉
Want to thank you for making it possible for me and my son to replace the 3rd brake light on my 06 Avalon on our own and saving me sooo much money! Love this video! Going back in soon to change out the subwoofer! Thanks again!
Thank you so much for this video! It helped me locate the cable that connects to the electric motor. All I did was put the sunshade in the down position and then unplugged the cable to the motor. Turned on my car and no more buzzing sound when putting it in reverse! :D Saved me $1,000 at the dealership. I laughed at them when they said they can go ahead and fix the sunshade by replacing the motor. Honestly I rather not have the shade up, especially when driving at night. Kinda hard to see it with it up. Once again, thank you so much for this quick and easy step by step video.
You sir, are my frikken hero. Thanks for the edu-tainment!
saved me $600. thanks for the video
This helped a ton! Plus your videos are super entertaining and it’s clear you try hard to make them enjoyable, keep at it!
Thanks so much for your help ❤
Thank you so much for the detailed instructions on how to gain access to the 3rd break light, sun shade and sub woofer. I was able to fix my torn sub woofer speaker foam as well as replace the break light. Saved $$$$.
Love that!
Where is motor located?
Rewatch the video
I’ve had no luck in my search for a motor do you think you could help me and other locate one online?
Unfortunately I haven't had any luck locating motors. This video has caused them all to sell out. I added a link for a replacement gear in the description. It's certainly worth a shot, if you're not able to get the near gear working in the gearbox, you're no worse off than when you started. Also, no shortage of broken motors on eBay so you can attempt it multiple times if needed.
Lmao & skip to 2:58 😂
Just saved my lyfe

You too funny Bro 😂😅

I appreciate your hard work. Very helpful video next we need Lexus ES 350 2013-2018
Nice video and nice and clear explanation.
Will these instructions work on a 2013 model avalon? My sunshade makes a super loud annoying noise, i just want to remove it altogether.
I imagine it would be very similar, so I would recommend trying it out
I like it😂😂😂😂❤
Where can I go to buy a replacement rear sun shade and motor on a 2014 Toyota Avalon?
Not sure about 2014 unfortunately. The only sunshade you can buy is from Toyota or eBay and the former will include a motor and the latter may or may not include a working motor. Chances are it's just your sunshade motor that is broken. I would suggest pulling the sunshade out of the car and inspecting the motor for a part number to see if it is available for purchase online.
Where can I order the motor and gear replacement for a 2014 Avalon Limited?
I'm not familiar with that generation, unfortunately. If you already have the sunshade out of the car, I would suggest inspecting the motor for a part number. There's likely going to be a part number that corresponds to a part from another manufacturer. It may be another Mercedes part. If you do find out, please share here as it might help others.
What size are your trim clips?
Not sure on the size. See the amazon link in the description, those are compatible with this generation of Avalon.
Great comedic additions to this video.
You got a great buy on that car and here’s why. That car is better made than any modern vehicle made of today! Take great care of it and it will take great care of you. I own a 2011 Avalon with over 280k miles and still runs like a charm!
Wow almost 300k. Mine has been an absolute pleasure to own so far, still under 100k miles.
I just found a diamond in the ruff , 2011 avalon with 30k original miles on it
Yeah this is so true. I'm rocking a 2008 with 158k on it. Still runs great
Is that the right part number?
Yes. Unfortunately, I believe my discovery has made the part difficult to find.
I imagine you can use this method to replace the center brake light as well. My wife's 2011 Limited has a bad center brake light.
You're correct!
Thank YOU!!!
Where is the sunshade button?
On the dash, left of the steering wheel. It's with your trunk release and gas cap buttons. The button will only be there if you have a sunshade.
I did it thanks for the help. I just unplugged the window screen and put everything back. My one mistake Was not watching out for the break wire. Now it shows where the screen is but it is okay because I'm not going to use the screen so the wire won't get damaged the brake lights still work and the loud motor noise is done
Glad it worked out!
Thanks for the video, quick question: any special considerations for re-installing the parcel shelf? I've had it in and out three times and can't get it lined up in a way where the sun shade is able to open cleanly through the slot in the parcel shelf. I just got it working too - any tips? Seems like the portion at the front of the slot where the sun shade comes out is too high and the sun shade gets stuck on it.
Sounds like a part of the panel isn't clicked in. Bang on it with your first. If that's not working, wire or the insulation mat might be getting in the way of the panel clicking into place. Remove the panel and take a look to see if something isn't in the right place.
@@jboi6049 thank you!
I didn't break any clips so I saved my 10 dollars.
good job!
Expensive for it’s model
Could you make a video about your subwoofer. I drive an 06 limited and I think the speaker blew but I have literally no clue where to tart with all details in a replacement. I’d be willing to pay you for the video even.
czcams.com/video/vDHEbiyBt9I/video.html&ab_channel=SimplySpeakers This video is all you need to for actual repair. If you watch the other video on my channel you can figure out how to get the subwoofer out of your car. The kit you need is below. I've done the repair before, it's easy. You'll need some rubbing alcohol to clean all the deteriorated foam off your speaker. Once it's cleaned up, gluing in the new foam is quite easy. The glue on the subwoofer spider has likely also failed (the spider should be an orange copper color, you'll know what I'm talking about when you get the subwoofer out). Put some of the glue in the kit on the spider if its flapping. Good luck! www.amazon.com/Toyota-Speaker-Replacement-86160-AC180-FSK-8M-Toyota/dp/B009DNMXJG
Thank you so much for your help in this video! The first time I heard the loud grinding noise it scared me! Now, it just annoys me every time I go in reverse. Thank you for your help!
VERY BIRING VIDEO.
Your Video is awesome!! i have a 2011 Avalon and i am searching everywhere for a motor, but no luck. Should i order the plastic gear and try to open up the motor, that coil spring scares me on how to adjust. Your thoughts Again thx for your time Cliff
Cliff, you don't have anything to lose by trying so I say go for it. If it breaks, you're no worse off. Hopefully more new motors start popping up again. In a different comment I posted a link to a discussion on the Toyota Nation forum that has some helpful info. Good luck!
Thank you for this video
funny!
شكر لترجمة المقطع ❤
Does the new motor you have installed have the same problem? I mean does it have the same weak point and will be stop working after couple of years?
Or it is the updated version of the factory one? Thank you for your informative video.
@@camryle5590 Good question. I’m unsure if the gears have all been upgraded to metal on the motor I installed. I can tell you the motor still works perfectly today. The motor that came out of my car was manufactured in 2005. The motor I replaced it with was manufactured in 2015.
@@jboi6049 Thanks for your reply
@@jboi6049 Now if only someone would be willing to make replacement metal gears instead of plastic ones. For now the wait and hunt begins to find the new motor.
