Cliff Michelmore closes the BBC's Lime Grove studios - 1991
zhlédnutí 7KPřed 13 lety
Cliff Michelmore performs a unique closing ceremony in Lime Grove studio D for The Late Show, unplugging a camera that was producing the last live images from the venerable pile. Or so it seemed. The segment was actually pre-recorded. Also, the studio was open again briefly on the following Monday to record an obituary piece for Peggy Ashcroft. Nonetheless, it was a memorable and lovely gesture...

Interetingly, ATV didn't follow other regions by havings it's ident in front of the news or films, the only time i remember it happening was Mike Prince announcing over the ident into an edition of Different Strokes!

Whenever I heard this reminds me of Punchlines, Russ Abbott's Madhouse, Weekend World and of course Play Your Cards Right.

I could watch this forever - it's fascinating. The way the three circles morph into the logo is so cool and seems light years ahead of every other ITV ident.
It's original and quirky, but when I see it, it doesn't make me think of Wales. And the jingle isn't even "Men Of Harlech".
I'll bet you any money, Gus honey bun hasn't aged aday since his last appearance on TV. I utterly and absolutely know this cos i stuck my hand up his arse and he's still got it and still waiting to work.
here comes the boy

an amazing tv company. I was little more than a toddler at the time of launch but loved it throughout the 80s and early 90s. much love to Ian Stirling!
When I was a small boy, in East Anglia, I wanted to grow up to be him - on a horse in armour rescuing people. Genuinely. Then I grew up and realised I didn't really like people all that much. 🤭 😆
HE LOOKS HAPPY DIDN'T HE HAVE A GOOD NIGHTS SLEEP? HA! HA! HA!
CROSSROADS TIWAS AND PIPKINS WITH THAT TORTOISE WITH A BRUMMY ACCENT
Whose name was ‘Tortoise’, although wasn’t it Pig who had the Brummie accent?
I'm from Westward/TSW land. The first time I saw the first full Anglia ident I was "WOW". I still think we in the South West had the best regional TV service.
I love classic ITV!
This is perhaps the most epic startup theme of all time. Rediffusion deserved to last longer.

It makes me cross-eyed, but it's hypnotic, and I like it.
This brings back so many memories from my childhood!
Does anyone know how the music was made?
I have been wondering the exact same thing.
Must've been either done on a Moog or a Mellotron
@@alexmacleod3728 I was thinking about it and wondered if it could be a plucked string with lots of reverb.
I worked for HTV in 80s and spoke to an old lag who said they had looked into colouring it for change to colour. Too expensive so we got the simplified blue/white HTV antenna thing instead.
I’m quite impressed with the fact that you used to work there. Quite nice if you ask me.
Presumably the monochrome section was just for effect.
I remember an episode of some comedy prog. on the BBC - I think it was "the Goodies" - which involved a reading of the words of the poem "The Pied Piper of Hamelin". When it got to "… open wide, and they crossed over to the other side", the ATV logo was shown - unusual on the BBC at that time! (Anyone know/got-a-copy-of the relevant episode?)
It was the episode 'Scatty Safari' the one where they breed Rolf Harris for their Star Safari park.
@@goodiesguy Thanks: I'd have never made _that_ connection! Do you know if it's on CZcams?
@@G6JPG Probably not :( All of the episodes used to be up here years ago, but they've long since been deleted or blocked. Maybe try Dailymotion.
I'm always impressed by the colour effects around (in this clip) 0:14. And I always expect it to segue into the dung … dung dung dung dung … of "Crossroads"🙂
Apparently Dan Farson the interviewer he had a drink problem and died in 1997 was the drink was the reason for his death? is not known.
Drank himself to death because of this show.
Great ident. But ut always bothered me that the third blue circle didnt fit the fanfare timing.
Still but very forceful ident. Sudden appearance with the 'Ilkley Moor Bah Tat' sounding jingle.
Although we got HTV Wales, we used to tune into HTV West just to see Annie. She was so friendly and down to earth. Real shame what happened 😪
24 / 9 / 2008 it’s my birthday ✨
I bet it took forever to make for a wonderful ident animation I love it took hours to make for a few seconds I love the bit where the silver/grey morphs to blue I love it probably up there with Thames don't ask me which is my no 1 equal side of the coin

Apparrently this is now on display in the reception of Anglia House. I am going to make a pilgrimage there, because this is the ident for the ages.
Absolutely amazing ident.
More better than shows on itv today
that fanfare is *loud*…. anyways a good idea for a colo(u)r ident :)
They were up all night writing the lyrics.
"Hmm... What rhymes with 'TSW'?... Oh, I know!..."
I like that. Very classy, and I'm American, not British. Very stylish, chic, and impressive.
Love it, especially in 2x speed.
