A.R.T.'s Real Repairs for Real Customers
United States
Registrace 2. 01. 2019
This series is intended to be instructional to the mobile technician while at the same time being informative to the public. There is little published beyond the tiny sample repairs that many companies perform in their demonstrations in order to showcase their products. The real world of the repair tech is much different than what is commonly portrayed. What is being shared here is what the technician faces in real repair scenarios. Included will be the reasons for each repair approach, the options available, the limitations of field repairs, expectations of success and the reality of failures.

Lol to much work . I' need a simple fix. No extra . Some super glue will be just fine ,after seeing this.😂
What glue is being used
You did a really nice job! It’s looks good!
Looks fantastic!!!
Will this technique work on the peeling, gooey(when heated, during repair process), Mercedes Benz seat?
I think the application will be on a case to case basis. If you are talking about the urethane seats we will have some information on those coming up in a video soon. It's not pretty.
Flatpicker
Cool, now I have to get an iron like that. I have several of the 100 watt soldering irons and they are cumbersome. This is some VERY useful information as there are armrests that cannot be disassembled in order to recover them. I do repairs on this exact type MBZ armrest all the time. The replacement part is pretty expensive, so a good repair is a very easy job to sell, and you can charge well for the repair. Looking forward to the next in this series of repair videos! Thanks as always for sharing this info. This is SO much better than some other videos where the tech is using a torch with a flame to do repairs, that can't be good for the compound or the material.
The nice thing about these irons if you like them is the low price and ready availability. Plus you don't have to show up at work with wrinkled clothes!
Amazing work as always, thank you for sharing!
Hope you like the idea. TY
Wow.... exactly what I needed, will attempt this tomorrow. Many thanks for sharing
Useless video
Nice work.
Great Job ! , I got to give it a whirl !
Wow you're amazing at this work. This channel is going to explode soon
I have the same problem with my is250. Can you share the spray paint you used? Thanks
You make it look so easy! I wish I had a talent other than breaking things. 😔
Thank you for the video
Wow you’re amazing.i have that same vehicle you worked on. I wish I had your talent
Patent that 'Wider Slider' invention!
Very good. May try it.
Wow!! I needed this!! Thanks for sharing the techniques!!
what type of stapler and staples are you using to staple on the new cover
3/8 crown stainless. 3/8 or 1/4 leg depending on the application.
What are you using for texture? Looks great, that what I’d like to do to my Bonanza 👍
Excellent video, full of information, I'm glad that some of the practices you have used with the glue, filler was used by someone else. I have used these techniques myself, it is great for smooth grain, but it can be more difficult on heavier grain leather.
Super technique. I am so impressed
Super but simple! And thank you.
I believe that your chosen power adaptor (adpv26B) is the switching type rather than the linear type. Does it matter which type of power adaptor you use for cars?
I believe you're overthinking it. The vehicle's computer is powered by what must already be a dirty power source - the battery and all the underhood components. Yet the computer produces 5v com bus signals that are clean. I'm not an electronics engineer but it would seem logical to me that the computer has it's own filtering. Also it probably doesn't matter given the minimal power required to keep alive the RAM and power an LED or two. But I always welcome additional information.
@@a.r.t.srealrepairsforrealc8247 I appreciate the response. Thanks.
Thanks rick. 20 years in the business and i learn from every video. You have really helped my sewing game especially. Also hard plastic. Lol. Too many areas to mention. When will we learn this "new cloth repair technique "? !😊
Thank you, Scott. Those videos will be soon. Stay tuned first to an enhancement to vinyl repairs and a word about urethane.
An inexpensive infra red thermometer might help in achieving the correct temperature of the gun.
Yes indeed.
Thank you very much for your videos, I have learned a lot. Greetings from Mexico.
Shouting back to Mexico! Glad you are enjoying the videos. Keep in touch!
Hello Mr. Rick, follower from overseas.. admire your work and craftsmanship here as i myself run a facility that provides this work… respectfully if i may request of you to make a video on how to restore damaged/faded canvas tops for classic vehicles like say- an 89 caprice classic brougham… we would truly appreciate your professional opinion on that.. From DUBAI with ❤
I don't believe I will come across any faded canvas tops here. Some have used a solvent dye to enhance them in the past. Thanks for your your interest and your kindness. I'll keep a lookout.
@@a.r.t.srealrepairsforrealc8247 no problem at all Mr.Rick… actually, the top we’re working on is not only color faded, but the canvas has degraded and worn out in most of its surface.. was thinking of sanding it down to smooth the rough, mangled texture, adding flexible vinyl filler, sanding that down, then spraying it with a solvent based paint..not sure though.. I thank you regardless for your taking the time to respond..
Thanks for the information, and I thought your singing was fine.
You're so generous! Thanks.
Thank you for all you do for us. I have been in this business for 14 years and I have to say you have expanded my horizons.I have learned so much from you. I have had so many ideas of how to do repairs differently, but did know how to go about it. From your teaching I no longer have such confusion. I do have one question. In part do to the quality and appeal of my work I have trouble with appropriately pricing my work how do you go about pricing? I feel I have always lacked confidence in charging the right amount I feel I have always been on the low side of things. I know this might be a personal question and you might not be willing to answer it here. If you are willing and have the time I can give you my email. I don’t know how wise it is of me to put my email here. So if you would like it I can put it in a message below 👇 I only ask that you delete it from the chat once you get it. Again thank you so much for all you do for us in the community.
email is in the description box. Every time I raised prices in the past I prepared to lose some customers. The customers I am left with now didn't even question my more recent price hike. But they also are aware that everything else has doubled as well.
Always appreciate your videos mate.I get what you’re saying about products but sometimes what you explain can’t be done or simulated without specific product. I wish you could let out the secret sauce out one time and let us know which plastic primer you’re using for texture. I was so impressed with the grain you got in one video on that door panel repair. I bought some from superior because viper doesn’t have one and superiors did not give a nice grain. No way I could get it the same as you did it. So I’m back to spray grain again and the problems that comes with.
Superior water base plastic primer does work well. You just need to use the right amount. At least an ounce mix with a little color and dry as your spraying. Remember, you have to adjust your psi to almost zero on the gun to get big droplets. Then adjust accordingly to control size of droplets.
Thank you for all you do!!
You are Pro. Thanks
This channel is intended to support the entire industry at great personal sacrifice on my part. Please do not post your personal agenda here, especially when it is counter productive to that purpose. There are opportunities to start your own forum anywhere on the internet. Thanks for the consideration.
For mild and shallow scratches I use Minwax wood finish stain marker. Specially good on darker leathers. Permanent and effective.
cant seem to find a plstic welder with a heat control knob. mine is either on or not..and when its on...its hot enough to burn holes in the surface of the earth
Thank you for all you do and the information you provide. It has been a huge game changer for me with being new to the industry.
You're very welcome. New ideas help us look forward to going to work each day. Thanks for your comments.
My coworker spends time only watching Netflix series instead of doing the job properly like you illustrated here, thank you great video very insightful
Thanks!

Thanks for sharing, there are a lot of ways to make money in this trade and offering this service is an easy add on when you're looking at what a vehicle needs to freshen it up inside.
What kind of paint do you use in the paint gun? Great video!
Wow
Can you please make video for how to repair analine leather, if has cuts or cracks 🙏
Yes good idea. In the meantime realize that any repairs turn the aniline surface into a top coated or pigmented surface. So the whole piece will be changed.
@@a.r.t.srealrepairsforrealc8247 Thanks for replying, So you mean when do analine repair or semi analine that becomes finish leather, or change the whole panel
@@sukhmandersinghkhipal6670 that's right
Thank you, thank you, I've been looking for a button tutorial for ages. Very informative.
I do leather work. We do double needle stuff, because it effectively backstitches the thread with each stitch
Hey Rick! This was a very interesting video. I'm about to attempt a similar desk restoration myself and have a couple questions I wanted to ask. Is there a specific type of hide that is best suited for a leather top? Also, What type of paste did you use on the leather?
Really everything is covered in this video and v112. Nothing to add.
Just the video I needed to see, thanks for making it!
