Wow Amazing what an insight into that part of the country ,I’m Canadian born 1941 but my parents ,brother sister from there Nizny Krucov & Hatalov and I can understand Rusyn better than Slovaks as they speak today music etc .Im brought up Roman Catholic and my brother married into Greek Catholic and buried for the Serkva as his wife’s uncle a married priest .My sister still burried in Nizny Krucov 1930 .Im fascinated by the professors knowledge Wow
My Aunt and Uncle were members if this choir. I remember when they sent an album to My grandparents for Christmas.

I so enjoyed listening to these carols this Christmas morning. They bring back so many wonderful memories of my childhood - and the warmth of family moments. Christmas blessings to everyone!
My father and grandparents sang on this album. I sang with this choir for awhile too, and am credited on one their other albums even though I wasn't at any of the recording sessions. It's good to hear it again. The last time would have been 30 years ago or more.

Wow - how did you do that? The difference between Carpatho-Rusyn and Ruthenian needs to be explained.
carpatho rusyns are their own ethnicity ruthenians are ethnic west ukranians so carpatho rusyn =/= ruthenian the words just sound similar

@@shadysheep1984Ruthenian referred to Ukrainians and even Belarusians at one point in time as the lands of Ukraine And Belarus were at one time apart of Rus’ which in turn became Ruthenia White Ruthenia (Belarus) Black/Red Ruthenia (Western and Central Ukraine), the Carpathian Rusyns were also in the Ruthenian camp back then and came to develop their own identity outside of Ukrainian even if the Carpatho Rusyns are seen as such long story short with them all is that Carpatho Rusyns are denied and seen as Ukrainians and in turn all of them the actual Ruthenians (Carpatho-Rusyns, Ukrainians and even Belarusians) are seen as Russians by Moscow
Ruthenians aren't West Ukrainians, they're the ancestors of Ukrainians ! Aargh !

Ktoru piesen spievaju v prvych sekundach videa (do 0:04) este pred Christijane proslavľajme čistuju Ďivu? Neviete nahodou? Prilis kratky uryvok aby som to identifikoval. Je to nadherna pamiatka. Takyto krasny prirodzeny spev je uz v nasich cerkvach raritou...

@@dusi9998 Płynie w nich krew Azji. Niby to Słowianie jak my znaczy Środkowa Europa , my też czasem walczymy miedzy sobą. Ale nie mamy tej agresji i tej woli niszczenia kultury sąsiada. Rusini karpaccy żyją już tyle lat co i my Czesi Słowacy i Polacy i Rumuni i Węgry

Such soulful singing! Where was this recorded? I’m guessing it’s a mid-century OCA choir record from PA.
Close! They are Byzantine Catholic (Maria will hopefully correct me on if saying Rusyn or Ruthenian is correct.) And, yes, they were from Pennsylvania - St Mary's in Mahanoy City. I am not sure of the exact date, though, and it's not on the album cover. A friend in another group suggested it might be early 80s based on the priest listed with the parish at the time of recording, (eta) and this is supported by our Metropolitan Cantors' Institute's website's commentary that notes first seeing it advertised in 1981.
Growing up, spending every Pascha with family (at least one of whom was on this recording) at my Baba and Didi's meant attending many days of Liturgy at this parish. And getting to hear this beautiful choir was just one of the elements that made the celebration so special, and hands-down my favorite holiday as a child.

Staroslovjančina sa stáva na Slovensku exotikou vďaka umelej chcenej likvidácii zo strany cirkevnej prolatínskej hierarchie. Takéto záznamy, ako ste nahrali na youtube, sú a najmä budú raz veľmi vzácne. Mali by ste ich nahrať viac, v malých úryvkoch, celú B. Liturgiu, aby sa to dalo na youtube ľahko vyhľadať.
